What'cha doing air gun related today?

Well, the AirForce .177 Talon came, and I will clean the barrel and mount a scope tonight. I have already filled and leak checked the tank. All good.

While I was waiting for it, I took these pictures of the crown on my Vectis. I have never seen such a bad crown in all my life. I will have to message them to see if I can get another barrel for it. Looks like it was chattering when they cut it.

While I was waiting for it, I took these pictures of the crown on my Vectis. Looks like someone did it with a Philips screwdriver. I have never seen such a bad crown in all my life. I guess this is why I am not having any luck getting stuff to group well in it. I will have to message them to see if I can get another barrel for it. They don't answer the phone. I think they had a dull cutting bit on their lathe and no cutting oil, so it was chattering when they cut it. If they won't make things right, guess I could do a better job with a brass screw and some rubbing compound in a drill.

I sent a request to Hatsan for a new barrel. In that I removed the shroud they will say I voided the warranty so we will see what happens. I do not mind paying for it if it is only about $60. The gun was sold twice in this condition. Regardless of what anyone thinks of their construction, their guns have a good reputation for accuracy so I was very surprised that I could not get it to group.

If I can't get a new barrel, I guess I could chuck a brass screw in a drill with some rubbing compound and try to clean it up. Really can't hurt anything in this condition.

Geez looks like they took a hand drill to it. Hopefully they see this is not acceptable. So much for quality control.

So, I got back in my lane this morning and pulled the barrel from the new .177 Talon and cleaned it. I also disabled the auto safety and mounted a 4x16x scope. This is my first Talon, all of my other Airforce guns are the higher power models. So, the main differences I could see is that this has the standard valve rather than the high flow valve in the tank and it does not have the hammer weight. It's holding air press, cocks and fires and the manual safety works good. So, if it is a bit cooler tomorrow morning, I will take it out and shoot it some. Someday I might get a regulator and a CF tank for one of the other guns, but this is my last PCP.

Umarex can not provide the dimensions of the hammer spring on a Zelos, WOW. I know generally what it is, size wise but a person would think that Information would be available by umarex to pass along. Now I'm close to the correct spring except the one I found at Menards is a bit too weak. So I ordered off ali express from a link a person put on here for springs they use. At some point I'll find what I'm looking for.

Backstory is I bought a zelos that was an unfinished product. Short of a still hammer spring I should be to shoot it. With the lighter menards spring I was getting 820-800fps, with a heavy spring that's cut too short I was getting closer to 960 with the same reg pressure. So close yet so far away.

I shot the .177 TalonSS this morning and it did very well with the KO 10gr slugs. I need to get some different pellets to try. Crossman was just OK and Hades were pretty bad at the speeds I tried.

I got this gun because I wanted the 12-inch .177 barrel and another small SS frame. I will end up pulling the hammer weight and tank with the high flow valve off of the Escape too put this Talon tank onto the Escape which will work better with the 24-inch .22 barrel shooting pellets. I will then put the hammer weight and high flow tank onto the TalonSS turning it into another EscapeSS with the extra power for heavier slugs. So, with the help of the Top Hat kit, I will be able to try out the heavier 13 and 15 grain .177 slugs up to 1100+fps.

You can only buy an EscapeSS in .22 or .25, so the only way I could do this and not have an extra unneeded barrel was to get the TallonSS in .177 and swap some parts around which can be swapped back in about 10 minutes at any time if I choose too. 🤪

Today I mounted the scope back on my Uragan2.

Sometime back I sent my Riton 3 primal 3-15x44 LW (Light Weight) in for warranty. I didn't feel like the optical quality of the scope was up to par. Riton quickly agreed and returned a new scope to me under warranty.

This optic is on my U2 .25 700 Carbon that I use for my coyote calling rifle. Coyote calling season is close so it was time to get the scope back on the rifle and get some trigger time with the U2!

I'm not a bullpup fan, but I bought the U2 because the overall design and feel of the 700 is much closer to the feel of a traditional rifle than a bullpup.
