What'cha doing air gun related today?

Sighted in the Notos for rat hunting at the chicken coop tonight with green dot sight and red flashlight. Took the DNT Zulus 5x24 off the Bulldog M357, (too much power for close range deer hunting), and put it on the Airforce EscapeSS. Took a 2x7 illuminated reticle scope that I had forgotten about that used to be on the Element Max and put that on the Bulldog M357 for a wider field of view.

Took NXG APX out to finish off tin of CPHP with some off-hand lead slynging at 25 yards. It wasn't going great, so started to move and set me up at 10 meters instead. The fates told me I was being foolish by knocking over my stand the silhouettes were sitting on. So I listened and cleaned them up. Finished the last 12 pellets by just shooting 25 yards off-hand at my ATFLBox 5-in-1. During that I swapped from 6 pumps I had been doing to 3 pumps. It seems that they share the same 25 yard zero, but I could watch the pellet come back down to it with 3 pumps.

Always something new to learn. ❤️

My 23 and me slynger setup. 20260421_162715.webpI cleared biguns on top row, hog on 2nd row, and 2 soldiers on 2nd row. So 11 targets with 21 shots...

Shot the M357 to sight in the 2x7 scope with pellets but debating on putting the 3x12 on it. Also shot the Airforce EscapeSS to sight in the Zulus with pellets. Kept getting the x and y axis confused so chased it all over the place for a while. This getting old thing is not working out very well. Oh well, still had a good time just shooting.

Just noticed that the .359 wadcutters have shipped, so I will be looking forward to resizing them and trying them out.

Started my day reading up on the bills being proposed in Illinois and Washington, and making video about it. Then I restored my peace (and piece?) of mind by shooting "stretching it out" challenge with Hillbilly (my newest Red Ryder), Pinky (my Daisy Model 1998), and Marlin Brando (my Marlin Lever Action bb gun). 15 yards, 10 shots, and all of mine were shot off-hand with irons. On the topic of rezero or holdover, I chose holdover with my irons. 😅
Hillbilly scored 94, 1X20260423_144830.webp
Pinky scored 89.20260423_151055.webp
Marlin Brando scored 93, 1X.20260423_151105.webp20260423_151258.webp

A whole lot of shooting! The most I've done since last year. I figured out what I will be using in my FX long range gun, anything H&N .218 33gr and heavier, and AirMarksman 40.1gr. I shot tethered, so the lead was flying.

After that I switched gears and checked zero on all of my PCP airguns, offhand sitting with my back to a stonewall. No tripod or chronograph, just shooting at a reaction target 85y away. If I hit that, all is good. G1, MA2, P15, Mrod, 250z, AAA, all great and I love shooting all of them, and I just remembered that I forgot to shoot my TalonP and my Vectis is at work. That's what Sunday is for. It is a weird feeling to not have to work on any of them, because it has been so long since I've had to work on them I kind of forgot the details. It will be like working on a new gun the next time I've got to reseal one.

That sounds like an awesome day! 😍 And not working on any of my pcps is part of my problem, I have 4 that need leaks fixed. Another needs to be verified operating normal.

Instead I did a "stretch it out" challenge from 15 yards with the DX17, off-hand, factory sights. Scored a whopping 16/100! 😅20260425_141005.webp
Then I took advantage of the low wind conditions to check/find my hold for shooting 50 yards with Crosman Vapor Max. Ended up moving to the other side of the bush, so actually 48-49 yards, so that I could sit at table with rest for stability and lack of bush leaves blocking downward shots. Ended up with 49 (2X) for my 5 shot test group.20260425_152305.webp Then I turned the camera on and shot the challenge. 🙈 90 (2X) is not bad, but worse than the awesome potential/ability I know it has. Not bad for a pumper (or any airgun) in my hands.20260425_154431.webp

Shot 2 mags barracuda 30.86 through the max 1 only at 20 yards but it's so dang accurate. Shot the Notos w 600mm barrel, really likes the h & n 15.89 at 920-900 at 20 yards, very accurate. Found a fatal flaw in the .22 Norma heavy pellets if your barrel has the o-ring rather than the pellet probe having it. They have a slight sharp edge at the outer rim of the pellet dome, wearing the o-ring and cutting it. As I write this maybe I'm not lubing the o-ring enough. I did about 40 shots ago when I installed it. But still, the pellet should not cut it, and it has 2 separate pieces sliced out. I wondered why the pellet didn't load as easy as others. Seems like these pellets will be used only with probe o-ring designed guns like my liberty(there is no "pellet hangup" on the liberty, unlike the notos). Maybe I should try a thinner o-ring or better quality before I give in. This wasn't an issue with the stock barrel, I'll be installing my 3rd O-ring with maybe 60 total shots through it.

Another nice day of messing around with airguns, a great weekend! I did find my TalonP and shoot that. Still right on, I really like not having to worry about a reg after sitting for a while. I shot my Gauntlet again too, just because. I did some borescoping of my FX and tried the ELR Hyper Lines at a slower speed, still no bueano. At least I know that my new deeper Orion magazine can work well with any slug. Get the standard magazines if you're using slugs and the reduced size for pellets only.

Walk & stalked some Starlings with the S510 this morning and missed a beauty of a shot @ 50Y. Starling perched on neighbors farm wagon against a clear blue sky, I held for wind just as it stopped 🫤 and i watched my pellet wizz past the starling right were i was aiming....ooii.
Tonight I served an eviction notice to these invasive HOSPS. They usually make nests in my house eavestroughs.
Was shooting some (not overly great) groups at 25Y and these 2 and another male showed up. I held under and dropped a male @ 15Y and he crashed into my fence..... yeah polymags make a mess! The female dropped to the lowest branch as he flopped around and I got her as well. I usually miss these close up shots!

Just put the Zulus on my Notos, it is the lowest power PCP I have. I am still trying to take care of the rats in my chicken pen at night. 5x is a bit more power than I want but it is the only way I can keep all the lights off. My red bulbs have been scaring them away also. I don't want them to move to a new spot on my land, I want them dead. I have tried all kinds of traps and baits, but they won't come near them, and they have all the chicken food they can eat.

I get a bit frustrated with moving the Zulus around so much, but it is the best scope I have and the only one with a range finder or night vision so I use it as much as I can, but I sure would like to have another one in 3x12 power, mine is the 5x20 which is nice on the bench but I feel like it is too much power for closer ranges.

Sounds like a blast (Minus them eating the chicken feed!) I have zero night optics and always think about getting one.... How far away are you shooting them for 5X to be to much zoom?

Have you tried setting up a nv camera to watch their patterns? Could be helpful to determine the best kz(s) maybe set up a zero in the Zulus specifically for it… just thinking out loud so to speak 👍.

I have some night vision cameras out in the chicken pen, that's how I know the rats have been after the chicken food. The pen is against and wraps around a large shed in a large L/boot shape with lattice work around the bottom of the shed that an occasional opossum goes through and gets in the pen. They don't bother the chickens and I trap them. Racoons are too big and they have never gotten in. The way the pen is built and with the privacy fence I have, I have one shooting lane though the door into the pen and I will use a chair and a tripod 15 yards from the feeder. To get another shooting angle that would allow me to see a pallet standing up that has some nest boxes mounted on top of it, that the rats like to climb on and hide in would only give me about 7 yards for a shot because of the privacy fence and that is really close for a 5x scope because they only sit still for a couple of seconds. The privacy fence, shed and a small coop in the front for raising baby chickens or quail makes it hard for shooting anything but it all protects the pen and the chickens when we have a hurricane come through. I have only lost 1 chicken in 17 years from a hurricane and zero to predators. Just found out that my neighbor that I have been giving eggs too for years just built a chicken coop for his daughter and so maybe some of the rats have gone over there since I have been leaving a red light on all night for the last couple of nights. The rats were coming out at 9pm every night until I started messing around with different red lights. Tonight I will go back to leaving all the lights off at night to reestablish a pattern and in a couple of nights after they get comfortable again, I will get after them with the Notos and Zulus.

Sounds like you got it well in hand, sir. I just thought you were seeing rat droppings in the feed or something. Hopefully with your neighbor building a chicken coop it won’t bring more problems your way.

Well well look who foolishly stuck around, lol (no idea if it was the same sparrow)
Beautiful day today, and when I came home from work the wife & kids were gone🤔....so instead of being responsible and making supper i grabbed the S510 and sat down on the back deck to see what i could find.
Now if you know male HOSPS they make quite the racked trying to attract females and I glassed around till I found him. 40Y shot with a 16gr pellet silenced his invasive beak for good.
This is my airgun thats holds zero no matter what, has never leaked (3+yrs old), and last summer ended a fly with its second shot out of its case @ 40Y. Makes a sparrow seem like a big target, lol.
Did some landscaping after supper (wife and kids came back thankfully😂) and i noticed some more HOSPS out and about, targets for another day!
