What'cha doing air gun related today?

I disassembled my Notos and turned the regulator down from 2300 psi. I missed my hopeful mark of 1600 psi, getting 1800. My fps increased by 40 psi, Norma 17.6 shooting at 890-880 fps I am going to turn it down hopefully just 1 more time. The threads spinning it off are long and take forever lol. I need to research plenum size maybe as well. The person who gave me his evidence I was running to hot said my plenum is probably too large at about 60cc. I guess I can test. I can take some off if needed.

I just cleaned and installed the .20 barrel into my Airforce EscapeSS. It was a little bit more challenging doing an SS because of the barrel being recessed about 6 inches into the shroud but with the help of a wooden dowel I got it in okey. That was one of my concerns also I was a little worried about loading the small pellets. I test fired the gun with one pellet and I had no problems loading it and the gun shot fine, in fact it was whisper quiet all I could hear was the trigger and the pellet hitting my backstop. I had it turn all the way down because I was concerned it could have valve lock and dump all the air but with the 12-inch barrel that was not an issue. Now I have to put on a scope and unfortunately the only scope I have available is only 12x so the next thing I need to buy is another 16x scope because with these old eyes I think I will be challenged to shoot at 50 yards with a 12x. I don't know, guess I will find out. Anyways so far so good and I am pleased at this point that I have a .20 to shoot again. When I was first starting out years ago that was my favorite caliber because of the Sheridan Blue Streak I had. Hopefully I will get to sight it in tomorrow before it gets too hot. The Sheridan is still in the family, my stepson loved it, so I gave it to him a couple of years ago. We have never had any issues with it, and it still shoots great.

I have the old eyes thing going on too, and I found that my SWFA 16x's eyebox was so tight and unforgiving, that I just couldn't use it and got a 12x. For benchrest shooting it could work, but I don't do that. Unfortunately, I don't know of anyone making a reasonably priced (like SWFA) fixed power scope in the 15 to 20 range, suitable for varminting or I'd have it. 'Suitable,' meaning, good comfortable eyebox, dependable exposed turrets, side focus, hold over capable reticle. Always looking though. Valdada makes one, but it's pricey and heavy.

Well, the scope is on and it's reedy to rock. The glass seems nice and clear so I guess the 12x might be okey using splatter burst targets. If not, I'll get a lot of exercise. It is defiantly okey for varmints. I am anxious to see what this can do especially with the slugs, but it will have to wait until tomorrow. It's already pushing 80 and supposed to get to 90 and I am not a fan of that.

I'm going to try and shim the ZR knock off scope mount with some stripes of soda can. I've seen it done in a utube video and it worked out for him. Funny thing is, I had to wait until I went to the grocery store to get a can of soda. I don't normally drink soda but when I do it's in a plastic bottle.

I started with pulling my Pinty rifles out for some photos, where I discovered that my Vanguard has developed a leak. Leaking at approximately 100 bar/hr, but nothing audible so time to go hunting for the source...

Then I sat down with my newest Red Ryder (Hillbilly) , at approximately 8 yards, and did a bit of can cutting.VideoCapture_20260418-151007.webp This particular can was like a Terminator... it took so many lickings and kept on ticking, but perseverance won the day.20260418_150131.webp

Finally, I pulled my Vapor Max and NXG APX Multi-Shot out for some super slow motion footage of shooting a pellet into an Apple juice bottle filled with water. I did each gun from 1 to 10 pumps.

Well, this morning I shot the Airforce EscapeSS .20 for the first time to get an idea of what it could do, and I was impressed but I am sure the wind could mess things up in a hurry past 30 yards. It was almost completely turned down all the way, but I left it in the mid 900s to help with the drop at 50 which was about 1.5 inches. It can do 18 good shots from 29-25fpe 972-891fps, with 13gr pellet 2600-1600psi probably more but I didn't try. The JSB 13.9gr was the only pellets I had but I thought they did very well. I was using a 12x scope might have done a little better with 16x but I don't know. The NSA slugs were too small of a diameter, and I will knurl some to see if they do better. The 13gr slugs were awful but the 18gr slugs might work after knurling and some tuning.

Well, I tried it but the slop isn't as much as the version he's using and I just couldn't get the shims in. I guess it's back to using some nylon set screws.

Another day, another feral can cut/neutralized. I realized that it is the year of the pumper, and I hadn't cut a single can with a pumper this year. So... I took the Vapor Max out and we sat under a deck and shot 20 yards to cut a can in the rain. 3 pumps was giving me about the same poi as 6 pumps at 25 for my scope. 61 shots, partially due to impatient shots missing the can. But all of it was fun and relaxing backyard plinking. Then I finished the magazine on a "lost and found" Easter egg, bell, wooden fish, and resettable FT.20260419_152245.webp20260419_151823.webp
