Western Airguns Mordax PCP Carbine Now Available

The Western Airguns Mordax PCP Carbine is now available from Airguns of Arizona and Precision Airgun distributors around the country.

HAM readers first saw the Mordax in our reports from Extreme Benchrest in October 2024. At that time, I was able to shoot a pre-production example. With its selective-fire capability, it was great fun to shoot in both semi- and full-auto modes!

Designed as a semi-automatic sporting pistol with an option for full-auto fun, the Mordax features a removable folding stock, easily transforming into a compact carbine.

The name Mordax refers to the Western Desert Scorpion, a tough little critter with the Latin name of Uroctonus mordax and a powerful sting in its tail.

Many potential buyers will be delighted to hear that the Mordax is available in three calibers: .22, .25 and .30 cal. They will be even more pleased that all calibers of the Mordax PCP carbine (or carbine/pistol) are fitted with SubMOA barrels.

The inclusion of USA-made, SubMOA, single-point cut-rifling barrels confirms that the Mordax is intended for serious shooters. You can read more about these premium barrels in this HAM story. Western Airguns claims that this will provide unmatched accuracy for such a compact airgun.

The Mordax weighs around 3 Lbs 14 Oz. It’s 13.5 Inches long in pistol configuration. That length becomes 22 Inches with the folding stock engaged. With the stock deployed, the Length Of Pull is an adequate 12.5 Inches.

Open sights are fitted, with the rear sight being adjustable for elevation and windage. There’s also a full-length Picatinny rail along the top of the frame, so that a red dot sight or scope can be mounted is desired by the owner.

Each Mordax is factory-tuned to optimize shots per fill, however the regulator can also be adjusted by the user. The Mordax magazine is compatible with Western’s Sidewinder series, giving owners increased flexibility if you are lucky enough to own both guns!

For more customization, Western plans to offer upgrades like an extended barrel and air cylinder for increased power and shot count. (These upgrades were featured on the gun I shot at Extreme Benchrest recently). Wood stock options are also planned.

The magazine is the most ingenious part of the Sidewinder and Mordax. I've thought about alternatives, and for a semi and full auto option that is shooting under pressure, through the magazine, it is necessary for it to be made out of titanium, and the magazine release lock position and force needed to put it there is what you want. It is abundantly clear when the magazine is locked into place with no ambiguity.

In the back, upwards position is not an issue. Once locked in the only way the magazine could fall out is by you moving it with your fingers. Moving down to unlock is the intuitive movement you would make, with back and up (towards shooter) to lock is also intuitive.

Just thinking out loud here, wouldn’t the Mordax be a tempting new offering in the “We the Plinkers” packages at AoA?

I can see a few Airgunners falling off the cliff of indecision and landing headfirst into the buy it now button 😁.
