The American Air Arms EVOL 30 Is Back And Better!

The American Air Arms EVOL 30 PCP air rifle is back and better than ever. It’s in stock now at Airguns of Arizona.

Many Hard Air Magazine readers will be interested to hear that this new EVOL 30 incorporates a “cut rifling” barrel manufactured by Sub-MOA. It’s all about accuracy!

The elegantly-fluted barrel is threaded into a massive lug in the breech block. A chamber insert system is used to ensure the best transition into the rifling.

The Picatinny rail atop the action has an inclination of 25 MOA, for ease of sighting in long-range shooting.

Power output is set at 80Ft/Lbs from the factory, with 35-40 consistent shots available from one fill of the 300cc titanium HPA tube. However up to 100 Ft/Lbs can be achieved if you want to tune the gun appropriately.

Note that this is a pellet gun, being designed to shoot diablos and not slugs.

Importantly, the American Air Arms EVOL 30 PCP air rifle is entirely manufactured in the USA. Every part. Most parts are manufactured in Arizona and the gun is assembled there too!

The buttstock and pistol grip are Mil-spec Magpul components.

The trigger is factory-set for a crisp release at 8 to 10 Oz. There’s also an ambidextrous safety accessibly from both sides of the action.

There’s now an externally-adjustable regulator. This can be adjusted using the screw in the front of the air tube (below). The hammer spring tension can be adjusted also to balance the output.

A forcing cone stripper fits onto to the muzzle to reduce turbulence and the report of the rifle. However, if “backyard friendliness” is a priority, AAA has produced a Moderator adapter with a 1/2 x 20 UNF thread to which a dedicated airgun silencer can be attached. See the photograph below.

Additional 9-shot rotary magazines are also available, if desired.

There’s more information in Jared Clark’s video review below. It’s definitely worth a look!

So much to say, actually too much to say. First, the obvious benefit, it will be more accurate, although I have a very accurate copy as it is, so I will have to see that happen too. And that's about it for me. Yes, I'm serious.

I did not want an externally adjusted regulator, I set it and forget it, less parts this way. I never wanted the more complex easier cocking sidelever either, (but I could change my mind on that once I actually see one). The barrel on this gun, even with this contour, looks heavy for anything but a bench gun. Which is fine if that's what you want, but I want a tough hunting gun, which means it has to be an easy carry weight. Luckily, he said he was still going to be making the shrouded barrels with the same barrel size as before, hopefully that will be SubMoa too. And that's the other big point, the shrouded barrels came suppressed, this barrel does not, but he is selling a suppressor made just for this gun, but now it's extra? Who doesn't want to run suppressed with a custom designed o.e.m. moderator? Charge more. Don't make it an extra part that we have to order separately, because we will never be able to get it, like everything else, never available, out of stock. Honestly, not my problem, because I don't like the look either, so I won't be getting this version, but people that will, need to start speaking up. Speaking of including obvious parts, start including the barrel removal wrench. It's a needed component that is almost never in stock. Still waiting on that .25 too.... See what I mean, too much, and I'm just getting started.

Sounds like it will be super accurate and perfectly tuned as a pellet shooter... built like a tank for sure. Now about looks... it reminds me of a car that has been assembled with non matching primed body parts waiting to be final coated (BLACK!!) in a spray booth. It looks unfinished for sure in these pics. Anyone know the max fill pressure on it?

If you zoom in on the second to the last picture, of the fill nipple, just under it looks like 4500 PSI etched in.

Reading this thread and the replies, I know that Hateful would be having field day with it 😜.
Yeah, but while his comments on PCP could be funny, or even accurate, they were coming from a guy who didn't put his money where his mouth was. To my knowledge, he never bought one. You should have skin in the game before you (relentlessly) comment on something. It's like going back and forth over which is better, and why, with springers vs. PCP. If you haven't done both you can't really say, so just don't.

True on all points 👍.

Hi Carl,

You had some thoughts about the silencer copied above. Did you consider that Tom may know something we don't about airgun silencers?

The right question is WHY the silencer is not included and why the adaptor is the industry standard 1/2 - 20 rather than AAA's bespoke thread.

What about it Tom?

Kindly,

Mike

I consider a lot of things that I don't talk about, or mention, I talk enough as it is.

The original core for the EVOL silencer was designed by STO for Tom. Tom doesn't design his own silencer, he said that himself when talking about the original in a video, at least back then. Honestly though, no, I don't believe Tom knows any more about silencers than anybody else on this forum that owns and have used a boat load of them. It would be cool if he does, but I haven't seen or heard any evidence of that, besides the fact that he chose someone, to design his first silencer, that certainly does. He seems to be smart enough to know what he's good at, and when to sub out.

As to the threading, the new silencer, from what I read, is threaded for his new thicker barrel, and the adapter is for people who don't want to buy his suppressor and use one of their own. Nothing really strange about that and I'm sure his oem stuff is going to be a lot more rugged than going with a 1/2 x20.

It seems obvious to me that he isn't including the silencer because he is trying to soften the blow of the price of the whole thing. Which is kind of pointless, I think, because these guns are luxury items and expensive already. Being nickel and dimed is more irratating, and having to order separately, than just paying whatever the whole thing is going to cost anyway. Yeah, you're always going to get the guy who says that he just wants to run his own suppressor, but that's his problem, it shouldn't be everyone's that buys the gun. You, me, and a lot of others around here, know damn well that if the suppressor is sold separately, it's going to be out of stock and hard to get most of the time.

Well I took the dip. Here's my current setup but I think I will be changing it. The gun is definitely heavier that my other AAAs. I got it without the silencer adapter and shot it once. I needed to put my shooting earmuffs on as it was very loud. The image is with the 1/2 UNF adapter on it and I use an STO Falx high flow on it and that has quited it down to acceptable levels. There are no AAA moderators available yet as far as I could inquire.

I haven't been able to shot it much yet, maybe 20-30 shots but will try and go out today or the next couple of days and run a bunch of different pellets through it to see what it likes. I have some of the light-weight slugs that I will also try out.

Awesome! Good for you, I hope you enjoy it. And you're saying they don't have the suppressors yet, ..huh, who would've guessed that? (Too easy, couldn't resist!)

For all the complaining I do about models, design changes, and lack of caliber/stock choices, or inventory, it's because I love the gun, otherwise I wouldn't bother to say anything.

Congrats!

It is definitely good to see that they will be offered similar to the old style with the shrouded barrels lol , the real life pic puts things in perspective.
I don't disagree with you, but I will admit that if I were to go shooting with someone all the time that could totally shoot better with it, and even I found it to be consistently more accurate, than I just might be even more appreciative of how good my Paradigm looks. At least it would still have that going for it. Too funny! ...and I'd find someone else to shoot with, that had a crappy gun. lol

Accuracy is still king though. With the AAA suppressor on, it does look better. The gun should come with the suppressor.

You know, I was once thinking about the Zelos for a project gun, but I didn't like the gap, but I didn't want the bottle either. I thought about it and determined that if I did get one, I would buy some really nice pipe insulation ( looks a lot like neoprene) and put that over the barrel. I would do that with this gun too. If you were careful putting it on it could look pretty good, and it wouldn't hurt anything to try. I like to think up and try stuff like that.

After looking at the pic it would be easy enough to get a cf tube and taper the inside a bit to fit againstt the scope pic rail and make a stepped washer for the threaded end

Exactly. I don't think the design is a total deal breaker, especially if it is better, but because the barrel is so massive by airgun standards (just look at FX soda straws) I think this crowd is going to come up with plenty of ways to make it look good w/o hurting accuracy.

Tom says that going no shroud is "significantly" more accurate. I have shot through the same hole multiple times already, .25" ctc groups at 53y. I just want a super rugged super simple hunting gun (that looks good) and don't even care about more accuracy than I already have. I don't. Just as accurate, with more ammo types would be fine, especially with the same barrel size and shroud( with moderator) and in .25 caliber. That would be really nice. Coming up with a lightweight carbon fiber hunting stock, now that would be awesome, and a boon to the endeavor.
