Target Generator - You Will Be Able To Create Your Own Targets

Here is a redo of the scoring. The top one shows the score with the hut on target 5 that was meant for target two. The second one shows how i moved that shot off of target prior to saving the scored target. It shows you how each bull was scored, the total ctc to ctc group size, as if they were all shot at the same bull. The position shows you how far from the bull the group is and so you could use that for drift and elevation. Yes I’m obsessed 😂🤣😂🎯IMG_3747.webpIMG_3748.webp

It’s already been researched thoroughly, you cannot copyright the dimensions of a target. The only thing copyright protectable on a target are unique art work, logos etc.. so if you enter the dimensions of the rings of an existing target and the rings are regenerated as new art, there’s nothing to be infringed. The generator applies both my logo and unique artwork to the target making it copyrightable. A user will be able to use the generated targets as much as they want to for personal use. They could even redraw the scoring rings and do whatever they want to with them. What they wouldn’t be able to do is scan a generated target and print off a thousand targets blackout the QR codes and sell them. The idea is they’re free to download. The issue is really with someone uploading a cool silhouette or image and creating a target then deciding they don’t want everyone else to be able to use it and claiming copyright violation. The TOS hasn’t been finalized yet, but it will address uploading copyrighted material.
Fair enough
What design work would that be? A silhouette of a rat.
Not necessary.
Perhaps a particularly nice photograph of a racoon? Who knows. Once you own the copy right, you own it. The person who took the photo (for example) no longer owns it and therefore forfits commercial rights and since you own it, you can take it down and publish as many copies as you want for sale. So there is the rub as I see it. As long as your users understand the TOS when they click through, that's not really a problem. If it were, none of us would be posting on any Internet forum as they all have the same sort of "ownership" TOS. Doesn't make it right or wrong, just makes it something people should realize.

Seems from what ive seen so far that its pretty good! Even saved it as a favorite
It"s really difficult to get a fool proof phone scorer. It's really windy here, Im waiting to try the 100yd 5x5 and see how it scores. Now, I wait for the inevitable bugs that will pop up. My server is barely working to run it right now, but there's not very many users.

Correct. I will probably reword it. Because I'm not seeking ownership for profit. I'm trying to avoid someone tying up resources and not wanting to share and taking their toys and going home. I can accomplish that in the same way a lot of publishers work. the creator will always retain ownership, but I'll retain perpetual use, not one time publishing. I really don't see it being a problem. It s not exactly the emphasis of the site. Im still working on the TOS, I have to cover issues like someone publishing a target with a photo that they don't own the rights to, which would result in a takedown and possible ban for repeat offenders. Hopefully it is a non-issue.

To be honest, I wasn't envisioning anyone uploading any real photographs with any value.

Not saying you should do this but I posted three years of "LDC" design work on printables (which I am not allowed to link here) and the copyright I assigned allows reproduction (and in that case sale) but protects the designs from modification. You can do a lot with a copyright. Your idea works fine. The website is very well done and I'd recommend it to anyone wanting a target. Well done.

If you’re like me you’d probably prefer hitting a icon on your phone, rather than calling up a browser etc.. I was going to create a phone app.. But, my developer accounts for Google and Apple expired years ago and I don’t really want to spend the money on renewing them for one project. I also want to make this project censor proof. I’ve made it a Progressive Web App. The next time you load the site on your smartphone it will give you the chance to add it to your screen just like a regular App.. You’ll have a convenient icon that you can tap and it’ll work just like any other app. The site is secure and has additional security provided by cloudflare. Now it just needs users 😀😉

Does this mean we are greenlighted for making accounts now?

Absolutely , create an account, try it out and let me know what you think works and what doesn’t. Have I tried to do too much? Not enough? You know the drill. Is there too much friction. Desired features for your type of shooting. All that good stuff. Compliments and constructive criticism are both welcome. I’m already thinking of adding a ballistic calculator page, club directory and a shooting event calendar. The more people that try it and comment the better.
