Revolutionary Umarex Komplete NCR PCP Air Rifle Launched Today

1715959959932.webp

The Umarex Komplete NCR is a brand new PCP air rifle that’s launched today. In fact, it’s a revolutionary approach to the question of how to provide a “PCP in a box”.

It’s well-known that adoption of PCP air rifles in “big box” sporting goods stores is minimal. That’s due to the perceived complexity of PCPs, with their need for separate charging equipment.

Umarex Komplete NCR PCP Air Rifle

The Umarex Komplete NCR addresses that issue head-on by not requiring a hand pump, compressor or HPA tank. It’s truly a “PCP in a box” that can compete on retail shelves with the inevitable breakbarrel air rifles that still sell in volume at such locations.

Everything is included: gun, scope and HPA source. All the new owner needs is to buy pellets. That makes it comparable to a breakbarrel springer while the $199.99 MSRP is very competitive too.

So how does the Umarex Komplete NCR work?

Conceptually, it’s a high tech re-make of CO2-powered air rifles like the Hammerli 850 AirMagnum. These used 88 or 90 Gram CO2 cartridges to provide an operating pressure of up to about 1,100 PSI in the gun.

The Komplete uses a “NitroAir” power cartridge. It’s a similar size to the 88/90 Gram CO2 cartridges, however it contains 32 Grams of Nitrogen gas, providing a pressure of 3,600 PSI.

HAM-Komplete-8-9800936.jpg

That 3,600 PSI pressure is fed to the Komplete’s built-in regulator where it is limited to 1,800 PSI shooting pressure. The result – says Umarex – is up to 45 consistent, regulated shots from each screw-on, disposable NitroAir cartridge.

That’s how the Umarex Komplete works. It’s a PCP, Jim, but not as we know it!

NitroAir represents a huge step-up in power from the 88/90 Gram CO2 cartridges, plus it does not suffer from CO2’s varying pressure (and hence performance) at different ambient temperatures.

Umarex Komplete NCR value proposition

It’s clear that the Komplete offers a HUGE value proposition for many airgunners who make their purchase in big box stores.

HAM-Komplete-7-7623629.jpg

For $200, they can buy a PCP complete with a charging cartridge plus a 4×32 scope and rings. At a stroke, there’s no need for a HPA tank, compressor or hand pump. There’s no effort required to break the barrel, nor is there any need to deal with the recoil of a spring/piston or gas ram air rifle.

The Komplete offers sidelever cocking, magazine feed – two are included – plus an integral silencer. In .177 caliber, it’s specified to achieve above that critical 1,000 FPS Muzzle Velocity with lead pellets.

The NitroAir cartridges are sold in a two-pack for $24.99.

Wow I’m amazed !! Good job Umarex. Now there’s no excuse for people not to own a pcp. The cartridges are expensive BUT it’s way way less than a compressor, tank and everything else that goes with it. 👍
Well actualllyyy, (sorry I had to 😆) if you shoot alot that will be mighty expensive after a while, even vs a small compresssor or hand pump! 90shots @ $28.25 taxes in, would then translate to a 500 tin of pellets costing you 31cents per pellet to fire or $155 dollars. That's not cool! Reminds me of electric cars, buy one they so cheap to run, compared to gasoline.....lol no they are not. Cool alternative idea though but I'm out! Ps I failed grade 9 academic level math so if I'm wrong let me know 🤣

Buying the N2 cartridges seems like it would get pretty expensive, pretty quickly....I see Umarex bringing out an upgraded refillable air cartridge in the near future as a conversion option..Hmmmmm
Ya, quick . Especially now there's so many sub $200 compressor out today ..All things in short supply amazing there's enugh metal / aluminum to make these cartages up disposable ..

I don't know.. I hanging it up as another gimmick gun. . no matter how or what pcp is just going to cost you on any support just to shoot one pellet. Oh and once again no sights so add scoping cost on too boot ...🥴. .lol.

While I agree that those cartridges are very expensive, I can see people that already have 88-gram CO2 adaptors for their PCP Airguns wanting to give them a try for more power or extra shots. I believe there will be other companies coming out with nitrogen cartridges soon that will possibility be competitively priced. There might also be some interesting pistols in the future using these. I think it is interesting and I have wondered for years why it was taking so long for the nitrogen cartridges to come out. Thanks for the report hameditor. I see that they also offer it in .22 as well. The .22 caliber Komplete sends 11.9 grain pellets at 975 feet per second, generating an energy of 25-footpounds. Recyclable NitroAir steel cartridge, this is from Utah Airguns, they also have a big writeup for them with lots of info as well.

This might actually be good for someone I work with who has a CO2 powered .177 rifle. He pests squirrels near his house (they keep getting in the attic and causing damage) I’ve tried talking to him about going to PCP, but he doesn’t want to deal with all the compressor exc. Not being able to buy it at Academy, Amazon (the ones I have shown him) or Ace Hardware is also a dealbreaker. But this would be a technology he’s kind of familiar with but better. The fact that it includes the scope and everything you need to get going, could be a win. 👍

I'd say it's definitely better than C02, but I'll stick with reg pcps and springers. Excited to see the full Ham review and write ups though! And I agree, conversion kits will definitely be a thing in the future for it! My 1 year old $300 hand pump fills/tops off 2 guns almost weekly. Has been resealed twice now for maybe $50? So say $350 all in for a year now. Now comes the $$ kicker....I have shot easily 1500 pellets in that 1 year time. You just took that hand pump and 4 repairs (or a small compressor) and tossed it in the scrap bin after those 1500 pellets. It wins for convenience though!!!
This probably makes sense for the once in a while shooter ? Maybe it’s the gateway pcp. Yes that’s what it is. It’s for the Nay sayers
I think you are absolutely right. Coming off CO2 this would be appealing, or a new shooter, or someone on a budget( and hasn't done the real math!)

I guess if the bottle end has a valve why not have it refillable. Surly it's not like a CO2 that as you screw it down it perices the "cap" kinda thing is it .. ?

Again to me just a waste of material making a disposable bottles.. not like we here in the USA try to recycle anything like overseas folks do ..lol. I use to like CO2 pistol but now dealing with CO2 cartridge just become a hassle anymore so them guns got parked or gifted .. idk just practical and convenance is all I look at anymore .. oh well.

Oops..

Ya now wonder how convenient getting cylinders are going to be ? I bet not everyday walk in Walmart ..lol. Bad enough that price then hunt in stock or free shipping / ECT to keep it up ..lol no thanks

Wow 🤩. Excited to see something new come along. But those cart prices yikes 😬. $23 buys 2. A cart is good for 30-35 shots. That gets expensive quick. I am so hoping it takes off and the price of the carts come down. Maybe more choices will bring it down. But then again 88-90gr C02 carts never really came down. Sad you can buy the 12gr carts for way less.

yea i think this will be a massive flop unless they can get ever wallmar to stock those cartiges ( and at about half that price or even less ) and i dont see that happening i cant get what i want at wallmarts as it is i hate that place.
i never got in to co2 cartage guns because of the the cartragte so although this looks cool and i am sure some will get them for their collectction i wont be one of them.

I understand Hateful. The guy I’m talking about (Military Veteran) has two badly injured shoulders and trying to cock a break barrel or springer is out of the question so he’s been using co2. But he loves bass pro shop and academy which could be some of the big box sporting good stores it might be available at.

Hateful if it doesn’t need much more than pellets, it probably isn’t for you but there might be somebody out there in a tough spot that it could be good for 👍

45 shots for $25 bucks. That doesn’t sound inexpensive. Add the price of pellets or slugs these days, and the steady increase in prices, this idea doesn’t look so good. Perhaps your HAM article could address that?

C02 and hunting 😒...that would be a struggle! I have a co2 crosman repeater, and I don't include it in my collection of fine guns, bc it isn't. The leakdown on the small cylinders would drive me crazy, and....no gauge! 😳 I need to know its ready to go. In his situation I'd almost recommend those 700fps 22lr varmint rounds maybe if he doesn't want a pcp? Unless he's in town of course, maybe he needs to look Into this umarex! My biggest concern is, can you remove the cylinder does it dump its air or is there a valve? Otherwise once it springs a small leak it would be unreal how troublesome it could be to diag and fix.

a true friend would not let him get co2 talk him imto the pcp.
i say that jokeingly but really talk hom into the pcp

Yes he lives in a neighborhood. I have certainly tried to get him to go to a PCP. 👍

He’s been doing it for years plus he’s my boss lol. Got a heart of gold and a head of steel. 😁

Lots of interesting comments. Thanks!

Got to say I think the Komplete will be a huge success. Here's a few reasons...

1. Umarex already has very a strong presence in the big box world. So I think you WILL find it in big box stores, maybe even WalMart eventually. (I have no inside information here, this is just a guess). That's the complete reason for the "PCP in one box" strategy, after all.

2. My guess is that the NitroAir cartridges will be an added attraction to a big box retailer. You have to keep going back there to buy more. That's more foot traffic, more sales and more earnings for the store.

3. At less than $200, the Komplete is just incredibly-well priced for a regulated, magazine-fed, sidelever action PCP with a shrouded barrel. This is deep into breakbarrel territory, of course, which I have to believe is completely intentional.

4. Again my guess is that the Komplete is targeted purely against springers in a big box sales environment. Compared to the average sproinger, it's smaller, lighter and there's "no" cocking effort. There's zero issues with recoil and screws coming loose. There's no need for special holds. It can be shot exactly like a firearm. For the AVERAGE new owner, it will be more consistently accurate and easy to shoot than any springer out there in big box land, I believe.

5. The full HAM review will be published soon. But I can tell you that the .177 caliber gun we have here managed 60 - yes SIXTY - consistent shots at around 975 FPS from one NitroAir cartridge. I kept firing it beyond that until 84 shots - 7 magazines worth - at which point the muzzle velocity was still 650 FPS. A drop, yes, but I bet that many plinkers would put up with that. That's using 8.64 Grain H&N Field Target Trophy pellets, by the way.

6. The Komplete is - I believe - definitely NOT targeted at what we might call the "serious" airgunner. That is, not at most members of the HAM Community! We already have the Notos and Gauntlet plus a compressor or tank. The Komplete is for someone who does not have an airgun at all.

7. Finally it's a "plug and play" PCP with no compressor issues or need for a tank (which has to be filled somewhere). That - in itself - is HUGE!!!

Well, that's my thoughts so far. Of course, I could be completely wrong - wouldn't be the first time according to my wife!
