I have been shooting for about 60 years and I have always just held my gun in my lap while working on it and put parts or cleaning gear on a table next to me. If I need to set it down for a minute, I just set it on a box or something. There is a ton of stuff a person can spend money on but is it all really needed? I have not had a need for lots of the things that they would like to sell us so I don't spend my money on it. Your milage may vary.

Hi chief55, I tried the lap maintenance way and usually end up losing small parts so i will give the holder a try.

I would just get oil all over myself doing that😅 I lay out newspaper and then 2 blocks of stiff foam chopped with an indent to hold the gun. They serve as showcase gun holders, rear bags, gun holder when cleaning em, etc. I have lots of cool equipment but these free foam pieces are worth their weight in gold. Here's the TX with foam in use. Just flip it around if u want it flat!
