HAM Shooter
Hi guys, I just ordered a Rattler 357 and was wondering if you've noticed, a 1st shot of the day, drop in fps from the previous day or days between target practice or hunting sessions?

@surfspot Yes. That happens to me sometimes. Pay attention to your regulator’s set pressure before and after shooting once your gun has sat up overnight. Within 1-3 shots the reg usually settles back down to where I set it. If there has been a big swing in temperature (e.g. if I filled the reservoir at a cooler temp outside and then bring the gun inside into warmer ambient air then this can also affect the regulator set point). Usually one shot does the trick.Hi guys, I just ordered a Rattler 357 and was wondering if you've noticed, a 1st shot of the day, drop in fps from the previous day or days between target practice or hunting sessions?
Thanks for the reply. What slugs and or pellets do you like for the 357? and have you had any maintenance issues?@surfspot Yes. That happens to me sometimes. @surfspot So far I like NSA 110 grain dish base slugs. They shoot well enough for me out to 100 yards so far. However, I am having problems with them becoming unseated within the magazine after shooting a few shots. I have a magazine indexing issue that I’ve been trouble shooting. In cooler temps the mag has seized on me after a single shot. I feel like that cost me a pig and a follow up shot on an armadillo. I did find the armadillo. I was also catching a blast of air to the eye until I adjusted the barrel. Once it threw a piece of lead into my eye. I broke a stock baffle on the moderator core while trying to remove the shroud and bought an upgraded replacement moderator core. I don’t like how pellets shoot or how they consistently come unseated within the magazine after shooting. I’ve only tried .35 JSB Exact Match Diabolo pellets. For such a pricey rifle, this one has presented some challenges for me. I bought mine used so I can’t speak to these issues as common issues. Nonetheless, they’re issues I’ve encountered with my Western Rattler .357.Thanks for the reply. What slugs and or pellets do you like for the 357? and have you had any maintenance issues?
This report is extremely valuable to me. I did read your other posts regarding the blow out of the mag. Hope your eye didn't sustain permanent damage?@surfspot So far I like NSA 110 grain dish base slugs. They shoot well enough for me out to 100 yards so far. @surfspot I have no idea how to quantify what the best fps or what’s best for someone else. If the projectile shoots accurately within my desired range, then I’m good with that. Shoot all of those projectiles and let us know what works best for you. Testing should be the fun part. It’s how you learn a rifle.Best fps for NSA 110, 125, 142, and 178 out of a Rattler 357?
@surfspot You should take a look at my Rattler thread. The answers to your questions are likely there. You shoot the NSA 110. What fps and groups are you getting at 100yds? On a tripod?
@surfspot If the above quote was direct towards me, you seem to have confused me with another member. Also, I recall you adding the Emperor to your rifle. How noticeable was the decibel drop?
