Why is it if I spend less than say $500 I literally buy garbage that needs more work than it’s worth? There are some exceptions like the Notos, Avenge x, Avenger…. but literally almost everything under $500 for me anyway has been garbage. Is it just me ? Am I too darn picky? Do I attract 🍋? Please chime in I know we spoke about the lemons 🍋 with another member 😉. Do manufactures think people want a gun that’s 85%? I don’t know. If I buy an economy car do I have to paint it? Put better wheel bearings? No they are good to go. Why can’t airgun manufacturers do the same? Learn from some of the Umarex stuff, Notos, it can be done. Gamo Arrow was an excellent gun , Gamo Urban was excellent I had both , both are affordable so it can be done. Sorry I’m just ranting but this has been my experience. I’m not giving another penny to junk it’s such a waste of time, pellets and energy. All the new junk I saw presented at Shot Show made me cringe. I thought great more crap that’s flooding the market. If you’ve had luck with inexpensive stuff let me know. I don’t want to spend $$ I don’t have on high end guns but that’s what it takes to buy quality. I wish a $400 gun did everything I expected but they don’t.

There are some gems, for me the Gamo Urban was simply awesome, it served me well. I regret selling it… The second, an Artemis pp700sa, a superb, close range rat killer. Depends on what a person is practically doing with their airguns, there are good values sub $500 USD. Due diligence always applying of course… And though I did move on from the aforementioned, they give up nothing to my present choices in “practical use”.

I’ve had both you mentioned and yes they were great as is from the factory and affordable

some could say i was picky but i dont feel i am. i learned a very many moons ago there is a reason qaulity cost.
mas production can bring the cost down and made a pruduct more affordible but there are limits.
once you start seeing really cheap and i do mean cheap ( generally i like the term affordable ) theres corners being cut in qaulit in fit and finish in matrials. ah lets through a little plastic in there and tell em its good they will buy it. suckers!
sorry i have designed manufatcured and been involved to long.
so when i buy i save my money and i go for the best production product i can, and if i can, something boutique.
as for air guns i bought my wife a more mas produced gun that i did a lot of reseach on and i think its a godd solid gun the BRK concept
for me i ot the EVOL and i love it.
and theres a lot more out there i would love to get my hands on but for 500.00 i will only be shoping used.

I don't agree at all. The cheaper guns are all that some can afford, or will even consider spending, and they are not moving up either. They don't have to. Ever since the Maximus, Disco, QB78, handy people have been getting cheap guns to shoot great, before low end regulators even showed up. Yeah, they had to uderstand the pressure and bell curve data, but they learned it. People are still fans of the Crosman pistol conversions too. The Gauntlet was considered the first of the PPP (priced point PCPs) at $300 that came with a reg, a mag and some adjustability, and it shoots great. Maybe they took some work, so what, they're cheap. It gave a lot of people an in. You already mentioned the Urban, yup! The Hatsans are accurate too. If you don't want to learn or do the work and slide right into middle or tier one territory because you can afford it, good for you. Many can't. All of the the "garbage" that I have played around with, has ended up shooting great. They are most certainly worth every penny once I am done with them. If you don't want to buy anything under a certain price point, don't. Don't complain about the market segment that you don't want anything to do with. It's there for a reason, just not yours. I have moved up too, but I see the value in cheap and having started there. Others would have done well to start there and learn some stuff too, before showing up to a forum and complaining about basically nothing on an expensive gun they bought and don't understand, like new people do constantly. But that's what these forums, at their best are for, learning.

And before anybody comes back with a "but," ANYTHING that is done to the "garbage" whether it's more QC, better materials, better packaging, IS going to cost more money, and possibly put it out of reach to some.

A $300 airgun is high end to some people, I have friends that are completely shocked when they see a gun in my collection and ask "how much is this one?" Some people have never been exposed to many different Airguns so to them they might not have enough experience to know when something sucks, I'd say most of us here might be picky? To us it might be a lemon, to them it might be the best thing ever. I see lots of folks complain about the cost of some of these guns, yet they go and purchase a $300 moderator, aftermarket regulator, grips, stocks etc, at that point they darn near could have purchased a better gun all together. Lol People like to tinker and make things they're own, nothing wrong with that... enough room in the sandbox for everything really. I've given out some of the worst reviews and people still buy the dang things.... people are funny 🤣

Thank you for all the different points of view. It’s really nice to read them and understand them. Maybe if I had time and a place to tinker the less expensive stuff would’ve made sense. I’m not here to $h!t talk on any gun , if i do say negative things it’s merely been my experience with them. I know bunch of other people have had positive experiences with the same gun so their opinions will be different. Anyway keep em coming:) oh yeah the Gauntlet was a nice gun too I remember that which honestly didn’t need any work at all it just shot well out of the box. By the way I still love and buy the 13xx Crosmans to this day. The ultimate affordable gun works well as is or you can build what you want. One stays in my zombie pack, one stays ready for dispatching rodents in a trap and one is built like a carbine.

Lot of stuff these days I wonder who the heck thought up and designed this thing and what engineering school he went to so I don't send my kid there ...lol

But use to a real live person drew it up , made it and held it in his own hands to r&d it before calling it good .

Now it's the computer says it's good near no hands on human involvement make it and sell it and your the r&d guy ..as in " they got your money and you got there junk" ..enjoy.👍

I went and looked through some of your other topics and you have had a string of bad luck. Sure I am generally of the mindset that you get what you pay for, however sometimes you can overpay.
I believe that whatever you spend your hard earned money for should be on par with its intended purpose. I’m saying it’s a matter of perspective. I don’t need a $3000 or even $2000 Air Gun. Oh sure I would want one, but in no universe would I pay for it. If I were a competitor well then I would have to consider it. If I were depending on it to put meat on the table, again I’d have make different considerations. Mike, my only suggestion is maybe sending the offending item back for an exchange at least once, if it still doesn’t work then refund. That’s what I do.

Exchange to see if I got a lemon? Makes sense but at that point I’ve wasted so much time with it that it just left a bad taste.

If I hadn’t exchanged my my first origin, I would have missed out on a fantastic imo air gun. It has never let me down. 9k plus shots.
The origin is one that I’d get and I bet I won’t be disappointed. I know someone who has one and of course our good friend Dana likes them. Nobody complains about them. I won’t get one because I don’t have room but it looks promising.

I said the same thing, about never buying an expensive multi-thousand dollar airgun, and eventually, people like Dana here, wore me down, and I did. If you really love this stuff, it will eventually happen, you'll find a way, or a justification, that fits or works for you. It does take some time to come around to it, but it happens to a lot of us. Good luck!

Yeah depends on your level of love / obsession. I am totally obsessed and truly love this sport.

I don’t expect too much from a gun. Be somewhat smooth, don’t shift poi, don’t jam don’t leak. I’m not a trigger snob in fact I prefer hunting triggers that don’t go off if the wind blows. Notice I didn’t say anything about accuracy? Every pcp I’ve owned has been accurate enough for my needs. Some manufacturers make crappy magazines I just buy Karm. Katran magazines suck so I have Karm, Notos mags suck, same thing Karm. I’m not even picky about regulators with es, sd I can care less as long as it’s regulating pretty ok I’m good

i persanaly do NOT disagree that there is a place for affordible guns but i make a distinguish between cheap and affordiable.
in the high end recording equipment world i always encuranged manufactures to produce off label affordible equipment everybody has to start andif they cant afford to they may never dip there toe in the water as they say. so, i am ALL for affordible. i am NOT for cheap junk.
i have been burnt more then i care to mention on buying what i thought woud be a decent but affordible piece of what were it was i needed. so as for me i choose to save how ever long it takes to get what i beleave will be top quality.
thats me i can hold out something maybe someone youger might not be able to do?
affordoble equipment allows peoeple to enter a hobby and possibly make a caree of out.

Another of my sayings is

" You get what you pay for ...., and most times less"

Then it's not like I spent nice on something and got let down just as easy as going cheap.. at least with cheap my feelings don't get hurt as bad ,( nor my billfold) 🤤

Here's one I seem to see maybe I'm wrong but ....

You see a full price gun and guys post they like it and little to no issues

Then some place put it on a nice sale .

So guys buy them up cause of the full price posts on good ..

But then the guy who got the big sale gun got issues with it .

So I got to thinking or wondering are the manufacturer getting rid of not quite so good gun under a sale ? Like this batch of guns may tend to leak , or barrel not 100% true , kinda not a first quality but just not a full 2ed ... so I kinda get leary on big sales stuff anymore.. lol
