This is with out a doubt the best 22 slug combo i have ever had the pleasure to shoot. It shoots fairly easily and for sure is more accurate than i.

That’s awesome. When I look at my recent experiences and those of yours and @Pumacarl ,@FL22 and others it seems like the age of slugs is finally here. What’s really amazing is that it doesn’t take $2500 to find a rifle that can do it.

I completely agree with your assessment too. I find the gun to be an exceptional shooter. It just feels good to shoot.

PLANS:

So after much deliberation I’ve decided I’m gonna set aside future .357 plans and I’m gonna go all in on the DRS.

Specifically, I’m gonna build a 150fpe DRS. With the transfer port I’ll have that and the slug power kit sorted. Apparently the tungsten hammer is only 14grams the heavy Huma brass one is 14.2grams.

The main thing is I’m gonna convert it to an 800mm barrel. Specifically the 800mm solid barrel…. I’m gonna machine my own shroud/air tank. It’s actually not hard because that diameter tube is pretty standard. I’m gonna make mine out of 7075-T6 and drop the Huma regulator in it so I will be able to fill to 250Bar+ and set the reg above 170Bar since the Huma goes up to 200Bar. All the tube needs is to be cut to the right length and threaded.


Do I need to do it? Nope. Haha but it’s too much fun to play with these things. I have yet to own a gun that I haven’t modified and I’m not in the mood to make a whole new stock adapter to make my own bottle mod.

That sounds awesome! Show'em how they should have built it. Machinist is so much cooler than shade tree tinkerer like I am. You picked the right hobby for your skill set! Imagine what you'll be doing when you get bored, I can't even begin to imagine it. The world's your oyster!

It’s so funny because neither machining nor airgunning was on my dance card 10 years ago.

I used to be heavily involved in football(soccer). I’m American but my dad was in the military so I grew up all around the world. Soccer was my passion/hobby/job all at the same time.

Long story short I decided to move away from all of that and felt pretty listless for awhile afterwards. I was also tired of working in middle management/meaningless corporate BS.

Now I’m probably happier than I ever have been. I do make less money, which sucks, but I work 4 ten hour shifts so I have permanent 3 day weekends.. and when I leave the shop I’m down for the day. No emails, not conference calls, no BS. It’s great.

The fact that my job also happens to be great for airgunning is wonderful. Yesterday I finished a 31” Lothar barrel for DJ at Heartland Air. He’s gonna have the highest power Karma EQ around. Then I started modifying a 34” Skout barrel to fit into a Barra 250z… the projects and ideas are starting to pile up to the point that I’m gonna buy my own lathe.

I think this hobby is too expensive and for as much as we love modding these guns it’s also a pain in the A$$… A buddy of mine paid $300 to have his barrel threaded. If I had the right lathe I could have done in 20min for $50… So my long term goal is to be able to offer reasonable custom work for my fellow airgunners.

101 FPE

Okay so after playing with the 93-ish FPE settings for the last couple of weeks I decided to push the reg up to 155bar from 140bar.

I found that the 13gram HS weight wasn’t really able to push the 50gr Franco’s above 925-930fps but the shot count was absolute trash. Right around 917-920 there was a nice spot to get about 20 a fill but that wasn’t impressive either.

I added the 14.2gr brass weight as well. Im not gonna lie I forgot how many clicks I went in haha but its below half.

Now Im shooting some crusty old 52gr Patriot Javelins, literally packeted in 2022 … but she doesn’t care y’all. Stacking at 51y going 935fps.

Still getting at least 20 fill but probably more like 23-25. So that tells me I’m probably on the right track.

Accuracy is hard to use as a metric as I’ve only tried 3 slugs and it stacks all 3. To be fair I’ve only shot lightweight slugs so far so that’s a caveat. But considering mag size really limits the length of projectiles most people ain’t gonna be shooting heavy out of this thing.

Notes:

Idk if it’s an AMP regulator thing or a DRS thing but this gun is easy to tune. It’s not quick to tune though. The reg needs at least 10-15 shots to properly settle and maybe 2-3 shots after adjusting the hammer spring.
