Others New drs tactical mk2

What ever works just wanted to make sure you knew what your getting into
Very much appreciated… I’m still not 100% sure so I definitely won’t make any promises…

That being said, I have a bottle on hand so if I take the stock off and see a plug(probably the same plug the dynamic has in the front) I’m definitely gonna go for it.

The dual air kit and an FX bottle valve aren’t expensive enough to justify not trying haha. It would certainly be cheaper than putting a 700mm barrel on the current bottle version.

So I just want to confirm and echo what @Solo1 put in his earlier comments.

The hammer spring is basically useless above 115-120 Bar. Luckily I already have upgrades on the way so it’s not the end of the world…..

But this is exactly the type of $hit that gets me so heated about the “premium” brands… I read the specs before buying the gun so I know the SHP plenum and Slug power kit is needed for the max power. BUT WHY SHIP IT WITH A PAPER SPRING???

There’s no power-band on this gun currently. It’s like 70-80FPE. Considering FX has 5 versions (2 versions of the tactical) of this gun out I don’t think a continuity of parts is an issue for them.

Shipping the compact models with weaker springs makes sense but on the “sniper” version with the 1:16 slug liner? Give me a F***ing Break.

For $1400 it shouldn’t cost me extra time and money to touch 100fpe in a .30 cal gun like this.

Notes:

Getting to the regulator is annoying.

Adding a plenum gauge is 50% more tedious than needed but falls that 5% short of being unacceptable.

The fill port is in an amazing spot for shooting tethered… so the other 99% of the time it’s in a stupid spot because you can’t see the F***ing gauge on the gun and fill at the same time unless the gun is propped up or on a bi/tripod… and since it’s a 230 BAR(WTF is 230? Even the 250z fills to 250 BAR) it’s kind of important.

So yeah I have complaints but I also see how people get sucked into the FX vortex because I still really really like it!

The chassis is awesome. Super rigid, sits on a tripod like it was born for it. Gives you lots of options for holding it for offhand shooting.

And yes even dudes with T-Rex arms like me can shoot it off-hand. Even the broomstick long versions. It’s light and stable enough to hoist up and the trigger is……..

THE TRIGGER 😍😍😍😍… y’all I haven’t touched the factory setting. It has a clear first stage, breaks super clean. Takes about as much force as clicking a mouse. It’s really good. It’s so good it makes me angry that every gun on earth doesn’t start at this level.

I wanna pull the trigger assembly out and run off into the sunset with it, tell people we’re a they/them couple and make a love nest in a backyard machine shop 😂😂😂.

I know people are gonna pipe in with “if you think that’s nice then you should try _____” Don’t tell me. I don’t need to know. Im just a dirtbag who has no right to aspire any higher than this. I hiked up to the top of the mountain, don’t tell me I can fly too 😂.

The shot cycle is just beautiful. If you’ve shot a barra 250z then it’s very similar. But if the 250z is a really nice home built street car, the DRS is the buttery foreign model that blows your doors off so smoothly you don’t even get mad when your girl gets in the passenger seat for a “ride” and never comes back.

Anyways I realize that this is a gun that has a lot of attention so I’m trying to post more and give a more detailed look into tuning it and things I observe about it.

I agree with your general premise about FX. I’m struggling with the FX Panthera MKII in a similar fashion. I feel like it might just be my favorite airgun so far. But, it has so many little things that has me thinking: what were they thinking, never mind, they weren’t. I originally ordered the slug kit and dropped it when they told me that if I installed the kit myself, it would void the warranty. I bought it based upon their hype of solid and bull barrels, where are they? It has the best trigger of any of my airguns, but has no documentation. They were too cheap to print a $2 booklet for the new MKII or at least add a twenty five cent addendum. I’m somewhat turned off by the DRS tactical MKII: it seems unfinished. It doesn’t reach the power needed for today’s hottest slugs without mods and personally I don’t see a $1000 plus airgun that doesn’t even tell me what my regulator is set at. That’s just my opinion and my desires. But, my Panthera is just so much fun to shoot. I’m definitely thinking that there may be room in my house for a .22 Panthera or Dynamic MKII. Bottom line though: I don’t get why I see people saying FX are garbage. Maybe I’ll change my mind about the DRS MKII, my thoughts are purely based upon the posts that I’m reading.

The main reason so many are down on fx in my opinion is because when they first came out with the impact and maverick you had to add this and that and the other thing then you still had a barrel that did whatever it wanted and tuning was tough cause you would get it shooting well and tomorrow it would shoot like 💩. All too often you would shoot 2 almost in the same hole then 2 would go almost in the same hole 2” away! The drs , panthera etc using 1 block that has everything bolted solidly to has changed things a lot.

As far as the drs goes i really like the 500 mm as a pellet shooter. 45 fpe in a airgun that looks and handles like a 22 lr is a great small game gun i think. The 700 could be a bit better i have to get out more with shooting 33 gr slugs and wish i could up the velocity easily while keeping shot count.
I’m not really getting down on it, There’s just so many options in that price range, that it surprises me that the MkII doesn’t have the gauge and a little more power. It will be interesting to see how the Barra 270z stacks up against it.

Yes sir this is the reason I’ve never considered buying any of the Fx models that don’t have Air-Over-Barrel storage. I learned with the 250z that it doesn’t matter how flimsy the liner is when you have 3,000PSI+ air wrapped around it.

I also feel like the shroud as a bottle forces them to properly tension a barrel instead of the cosmetic designs I see. The stock Karma EQ shroud being a perfect example.

The thought of dropping $2500 on an Impact that needs $500 worth of chassis, barrel harmonics and hammer spring upgrades.

So far in the .30 I find that the 700mm shoots the lightweight slugs well…

I’ve been bragging about the trigger that I haven’t talked about my last string of shots.. full mag ES 909.7-914.2 … reg on 105 Bar and 14 clicks on the HS.

This gun absolutely stacks the Hex slugs and since the reg is so low it’s really quiet while doing it… nothing about those numbers are impressive but the part you can’t see is how damn luxurious it feels while doing it.

I totally see what you mean but I’m gonna push back a little and say I think the DRS is the FX gun that feels more finished than the rest. No need to mess with the barrel harmonics, the chassis is already super rigid.. the plenum is 10cc short of the max power one. But overall it just needs a better hammer spring and a brass hammer weight. Even the barra 250z needed that truly max out the regulator.

What pisses me off is that I can’t even get within 1000psi of max pressure without ordering another part. It’s not even the cost! They aren’t expensive.

THEY NEED TO STOP PLAYING GAMES!! If they know the HS is weak then just give me the damn option to order the stiffer HS with the gun. Or just include the freaking Slug Power kit with every gun that has a the heavy slug liner in it. That’s my whole point THEY KNOW THIS GUN IS A SLUGGER. They put their purpose built slug liner in it… so why ship it with a hammer spring with the strength of a 3 day old kitten…

I know a lot of yall have seen me talking mad $hit about some of these “prestige” brands, Daystate in particular and frankly I stand by what I’ve said. I’m mildly annoyed by some of these details I’ve pointed out but not a dealbreaker… If I had paid $2500 for this gun or any other gun I would have sent it back already. Just on general principle.

It’s 2026 and I live in the USA where we get nickeled and dimed every time I walk out the door. Unfortunately, I was already hooked by the sport when I realized that the main target audience seems to be silver haired gentlemen with money. For those of y’all who are in that stage I can see why a $3500 gun that does 80FPE but has a beautiful stock might be nice. But I just can’t live like that. I’m not quite 40years old, I work as a machinist and I’m paying child support to TWO baby mommas… I can’t drop $1400 on a BB gun that needs $300-$500 of love to meet its potential.

I say all of this to say that even with the complaints I think this gun is a step in the right direction. Max listed power on the DRS is 126fpe. Max listed power on a .30 M4 is 125fpe… so for $1000 LESS I can get 1fpe more and avoid all the chassis and barrel harmonic issues the M4 has…That’s a WIN for Fx and the consumer.

The Dynamic MkII blocked rifles need no harmonics tuning to be accurate, they are accurate out of the box and are pretty solid.

Couldn’t shoot today cause of wind, tomorrow should be a good day for groups, so you guys inspired me, i upped the reg to 150 and put in a 14 gram hammer with stock spring. Im shooting am hex 33 gr at 941 fps and the spring isn’t maxed out. So i could go higher on reg. And it cost about 8 shots down to 21

Interesting! On gut instinct 14gram seems very heavy. I wonder if a 6-8gram weight would let you preserve the shot count a little.

Were you only getting 30shots with the factory settings? Because I’m getting closer to 40 I think. I need to sit down and do a proper shot count.

My slug power kit is coming tomorrow so I’m gonna start with the high flow pin probe and tuning hammer spring… to try and get a full power band with that setup.

I’m thinking that for 90% of tuners the hammer spring and pin probe alone will be enough… not everyone is a slug obsessed power monger like yours truly 😂😂

Well you’re looking at this all wrong. Sorry to say. Mine came with a 10gram hammer. The spring feels to me to be the same as the huma. Remember the huma parts were designed for the mk1! If i were you id put in the 13 gram because that would allow you to use reg pressure up to about 150 bar i should think and at that you should get 100 fpe or close. The tungsten hammer for the panthera is 25 gram! Id forget about the pin probe for a while too as the only way to get it out without tearing the whole gun down is to degas pull barrel and take it out of the action that way.
I was getting 30 shots at 125 bar which is higher than it came at probably getting around 20 shots now
