Well as some of you know I have been trying to get local permission to help with pest animals for some time now. It's not a very normal, or easy thing to acquire here in my state. Well the farm I have been buying all my beef and eggs at agreed to discuss it a few weekends ago and they were happy to give me an opportunity.

So today I took the tiny, 10 inch barreled Evol mini, my tripod and one tank on over to the farm.

My permission is simple, birds that land on the Harvistore silos only! The farm put brand new aluminum rooves on all the other buildings and didn't want to risk it.

Understood.

This meant today was a big waiting game, peg one, wait for them to return to the silo... I was content with this. Today was sunny, brisk, and beautiful out. I soaked all of it in. The quiet of where I live (the farm is under 10 minutes from me), the noise of the animals was the only thing I could hear today, it was nice.

This was my setup and where I setup today. All birds were taken at 58 to 62 yards at a 28* angle. I must admit I missed a handful of shots before connecting , HOWEVER... it was due to me completely underestimating the rifle. I had crosswinds/headwinds to deal with today and I overheld forgetting what a scalpel the mini is with the 18.13 grains. Once I figured out what I was doing wrong, it became surgical, so precise.

Today didn't have the biggest number of pests handled , only 7, 4 of which I can confirm with a photo. 2 pigeons lay atop the silo stone dead. 1 flew off and went down in a field.

Today was much needed, the mini always amazes me. 60 yards with wind and angle and it still froze a couple of those birds in time as they fell statue like 90 feet till I heard the THUD!

I had a fellow hunter hanging out with me as well :),

I'll be going back next weekend for more. Finally putting my practice to good use

Mine neither man! But I do like researching. @PA_AirHead is a legit, professional photographer. He turned me onto the Nikon Coolpix series, I've just been too much of a sissy to pull the trigger on one lol
Try it out. Looks like they have a range of cameras in that model. I have a Nikon Dslr I had purchased as a set from Sam’s Club years ago. It’s a good camera but camera is the last thing I think about on outings

I've always been a photography enthusiast and have very much enjoyed using Fuji digital cameras for many years. All of the photos you see in HAM that I have taken (or are taken of me) are made using Fuji XT-1 cameras.

The latest version of that camera is the XT-5. It's $1,700 PLUS lenses (and you definitely want more than one). BTW, in my experience B&H is an outstanding supplier, I've used them for 20 years with total satisfaction. But the new XT-5 has waaaay more functionality than I need.

So I actually still use the old, original (introduced in 2014) XT-1 model and recently picked-up one used but in beautiful - almost new - condition for under $450 from KEH. KEH is another company I can 100% recommend from personal experience. They specialize in selling previously-enjoyed photography equipment with great savings.

The Fuji XT models are really "old school". That's just what I like! They work just like the old film cameras on which I learned and developed my interest in photography. For me they're ideal. But you do need to know what you're doing to use them well. They're something of a "break barrel springer" in the photography world ;)

Awesome outing with that fine EVOL. The pics are just icing on the cake, very nice! Great shooting brother.

An Evol in its most natural environment! Very awesome man, looking forward to seeing more. In my experience, lots of people are very reluctant and strict at first but open up more opportunities as they learn they can trust you.
Certain members have squawked at the fact I've got 3 American air arms products but I don't hunt or pest , which wasn't true as I do have a constant rat permission at my leisure but it is hard here, it's not the south or Midwest, New England's political climate is two crossed fingers against anything PEW related.

I was really happy to finally put it to work today, biggest thing for me today was , safety for everything in my sights. Property, animals, people. I'm very respectful of other people's property so hopefully they'll see that and maybe grant permission elsewhere like you said.

So true, once you become “trusted” on said permission, other opportunities are presented you…

I like seeing an Evol doing anything really. I just know the joy I get from doing exactly what you described about the day and I love seeing others doing the same.

So often I've had property owners see how well we've done basically eliminating pests, and not destroying property that they offer up other opportunities. Who knows what'll turn up for you!

Don't let those keyboard pounding folks sweat you. The Evol's are a very versatile platform and you use it as you see fit. (With beautiful results.). If you are able to get it to a pesting permission on a limited basis and even put healthy and delicious food on the table, more power to you!

Well, if you have FX, or BRK, or anything other than a literal BB shooter instead of AAA.... people would still complain....

I learned on an old film camera that was built by Pentax for Sears & Robuck (there probably a bunch of folks on here that don’t know what I am talking about lol.) Film taught me a lot back then so when I got my first Nikon DSLR I knew almost instantly what to do. And what blew my mind was that I could see the photo instantly and even more crazy I could DELETE it!!!! 🫨. I’ve made a decent side living with my Nikons and multi lens’s shooting motor sports (motorcycles mainly). I’ve shot one shooting event and that was a lot of fun. A couple years ago I was invited to photograph a cowboy action competition. A lot of fast action stuff. I was able to capture a bullet from a 357 lever action rifle in flight!!! The highlighted photo of the event for me. So I think my next gathering of air gunners will have carrying my camera as well. Here’s a sample of what I used to do……. Sorry guys and girls it’s not pew pew related 🥴IMG_4371.webpIMG_4375.webpIMG_4379.webpIMG_4380.webpIMG_4378.webpIMG_4369.webpIMG_4372.webpIMG_4376.webpNow back to our regularly scheduled subject. Sorry Kev. 🤪
