JTS Dead Center Pellets

JTS Dead Center pellets are one of a large number of new brands that are blossoming in today’s expanding airgun ammunition market. In fact, they were first shown – to my knowledge – at the 2023 SHOT Show.

Already these new pellets have been the subject of enthusiastic discussion in the HAM Community, in this thread, among others. And now they are being advertised by Pyramyd Air, which answers one of the common questions: “Where do I buy them?”

So far, Dead Center pellets are mainly available in a domed configuration. However, there’s also some interesting “semi-domed” pellets included in the range, too.

Reflecting the current US airgun market dynamics, JTS Dead Center pellets are available in three calibers: .22 cal, .25 cal and .30 caliber.

Again reflecting market dynamics, most – four models – are available for .22 caliber. Two models are available in .25 caliber and one in .30 cal.

Pricing varies from 4 Cents per pellet for the .22 caliber, 18.1 Grain domed pellets, up to 16 Cents a shot for the 45.06 Grain .30 caliber pellets. Hey, more lead costs more…

Of course, you can benefit from Pyramyd’s “Get four tins for the price of three” offer. That will reduced the price appropriately.

Here’s the full range from the Pyramyd website:

My Daystate Red Wolves (.22 and .25 liked them - 25.4 and 33.4 grain), but not as much as the JSB/FX versions. In .25 cal, accuracy wasn't as good. In 22 cal, accuracy was similar, but flyers were more frequent.

However, I did have a pleasant surprise yesterday. A friend in San Diego (Ramona) bought an Air Arms S410 in .22 from another friend in OR. He had it sent to me to go over, install the scope, tune the gun, just check things out. I did, and it has a smooth power curve for a non-regulated gun. However, it shot the JSB 18.1s in the power band (190 down to 120 bar) in the 935 to 955 fps range.

I took it out, zero'd the scope, and shot some at 50Y with the 18s. Accuracy was very good, but it didn't sound really "efficient" and used more air than I thought was normal. I noticed a tin of the JTS 25.4 grain in my bag (almost full) and loaded a magazine. Shooting them in the vicinity of 820 fps - OMG! They literally STACKED pellets at 50Y - 10 shots inside a dime. The gun is very accurate with the JTS pellets (25.4 grain at 820 fps), great trigger, easy to shoot off bucket and sticks (which is how I was shooting the gun yesterday), and just "sounds" right.

Just proves, it can't hurt to try even if it runs against previous experience...

Wow !! That is some great shooting.

I was involved in the design process for these, so it warms my heart to know they are working well.... I don't have any BCs for them yet, but the previous testing I did with the similar NOE cast Hunter pellets showed the round nose with Meplat (called the Semi-Dome by JTS) had a better BC than the JSBs of similar weight....

That's exciting to hear you were involved. I noticed they looked similar to your NOE pellet molds you designed in the past.

Well Bob I'm not happy. I only bought 1 tin of those 21gr and now I'm probably gonna need to order some more. This is 4 shots at 78yds shot out the door of my truck with just a bag at its balance point. First shot I missed cause I forgot I dialed my scope earlier for other shooting and shot over it. But I'm really liking what I'm seeing with my first group with them being basically a dime at that distance. I'm guessing going around 780fps as 20.2 NSAs shoot at that speed and with less friction from a pellet should put it similar. Obviously more testing needed but first impressions are very good. 20230915_145332.webp

That looks pretty good. I shot my DAR gen2 last nite with 18.1 gr JTS. 10 shots gave me 5/8" gropes. I love it!!! All was shot at 47 yrds.

Was this out of the airacuda? Or the mini? If it’s the mini, I guess I’m gonna have to buy some! The heavier weight should help in the wind too.

No my Mini. The Airacuda rarely gets shot lol. I never bought it but got it for testing. I will shoot them through it but for now Mini gets priority. I have some info and rested groups at 43yds and potentially BC info to share. I'll start a new thread about it in a little while. I will say the 18gr versions are a laser!

Any marauder guys tried these in .25 yet? I’m mainly curious about the 29 grain ones. That has always been my big gripe with JSB that they go straight from 25.4 grains up to 34 grains in 25 cal with nothing in between. My gen 2 .25 marauder shoots the 25.4 jsb’s like a laser out to 45-50 yards, then they always start zig zagging…..yes, zig zag, not a spiral or corkscrew, there’s little to no vertical fluctuation. Tried turning the velocity up, down, and all around with no success. Hoping heavier longer pellets solve this issue, but when I’m shooting the 25.4’s at around 860, for about 20 shots, you’d think that gun had a regulator in it, it does not. It seems upping the velocity seems to blow the efficiency of the valve all the crap.
