EVOL Huma Air Regulator in an Evol - Who’s Using One?

Last edited:
interesting?
is the spread on most EVOLs all that much to be improved? be interesting to see such what the percentage of improvement it would render or if indeed it was an improvement?
doesn't seem supper expensive
I do remember seeing an EVOL forsell earlier this year and it was described has having a HUMA regulator in it.
can't remember who was selling it?

The evol reg is a stellar piece. No need to replace it in my mind unless you’re into constantly adjusting reg pressure. Then it would be nice to have markings on the reg body like huma does.

I personally owned one in order to have a “set it and forget it” platform. No need to keep tinkering, and the original reg is super consistent and well made.

I like Huma products quite a bit myself, but I am scratching my head over why you would think a Huma is better than AAA? I have worked on both quite a bit, I don't see one being any better than the other. If you are having any problems with either it's the orings and not the regs themselves.

@Pumacarl Who said that they think this?

Nothing really special about regulators, especially the HUMA. One of the easiest parts to manufacturer. I remember when they first started offering them for the AAA line claiming better performance but never actually had any proof of it. When you look at them side by side the AAA one is far better made and anodized for a reason beyond cosmetics. The HUMA is just a decent generic regulator that's offered for a wide variety of different brands, the AAA regulator is designed specifically for the gun it's made for.

Our reg has some features that do make it a better match than others. First, all regulators that we are used to seeing in conventional airguns are of similar design. These regulators have an inherent slope in the output. Meaning, as the reservoir pressure declines, so does the regulated plenum pressure. This slope may only be 5-20 psi overs several thousand pounds of reservoir drop but it does exist. Slope is related to the piston diameters and the orifice size; simple physics. Smaller the orifice size the smaller the piston diameters need to be to minimize regulator slope.

A small orifice means increased plenum fill time. So a small reg like the Huma may lead you to think you will get more shots per fill due to the decreased space used in the reservoir; be prepared for slower fill times.

The evol reg is physically large to have a large orifice for extremely fast and plenum refill and minimum slope. Also, I think the EVOL reg is the only one to uses a tapered seat which is nearly indestructible compared to the conventional flat seat used in the others like Huma.

Huma's statement, "This unique regulator is specially designed as a “one on one” replacement regulator for the Amercian Air Arms Evol. It will improve concistany and solves all the known issues of the original regulator instandly. It is an one-on-one swap with the factory regulator. Made of high grade aircraft aluminium in combination with bronze.
The regulator is vented to the atmosphere, so no creeping up in power in long term." is nothing but advertising drivel.

I own 3 Evols and I have never experienced any reg issues. They're very consistent. Huma's product description makes it seem like there are known issues with the factory regulators. If there are, I've never heard about it. I know this doesn't answer your question but I'm also curious if anyone has purchased one and for what reason(s). I'm glad that Huma offers a replacement if for some reason you have problems with your reg and you're not able to get a factory replacement from AAA or AoA. I'll always welcome aftermarket parts.

Shake your head all you want but that's what I thought you were implying by the ask, instead of making a meaningless comment like "smh" explain yourself. You are starting to sound like what you are always complaining about in other's comments. I can get argumentative too, but I won't, Happy Thanksgiving! smh 🤣

@Pumacarl Who is arguing? Do you know why I was shaking my head? I sound like what exactly?

What’s really disappointing about this thread is that you’re asking me to explain myself. Explain what exactly? I am not assuming anything here and this was not my intent. I posed two pointed questions, but no response that I’ve read here answers either question.
