Filling to max?

How do you feel about filling your gun to 300 bar ? Especially when storing your gun. Personally I don’t like filling and leaving anything at max. I know the guns are designed to handle the pressure but I feel like it’s too much pressure to just sit there in the safe. When shooting i usually just fill to 250 bar. When parking I just try and leave it above the regulator pressure.

Why should it be any different than any other pressure vessel? Filling to the maximum “Safe Fill Pressure”

I have always filled every PCP to full and store.

To be honest, I don’t know if that is harmful in the long run. Personally I don’t refill my guns before I store them as long as they are above reg setpoint. Some of my guns are now at least 8-10 years old and I can’t say as I have ever had a problem because of the pressures they have been stored at. Even when shooting them I don’t usually go above 3000- 3300 psi so storage pressure would be about 2500 psi. I think the most important thing is to shoot them all on a regular basis.

i have mine as full as possible i grab em shoot em and when they get low i top to the max and start over.

Here's my thing - maybe it puts extra stress on the o-ring seals and maybe it doesn't - but I'd rather have consistent fill pressures from my air tanks rather than each fill being a bit less than the one before. So I use one of the big external regulators you can get from ATP or JoeB set to 260 bar. Plenty of fills from a 300 bar air tank and then I refill the air tank when it hits around 250-260 bar.

As far as storage - usually the airgun just gets put away with whatever air remains, unless it's really low at which point it'll get a top off before storage.

It might be a little different for those of you well, probably most of you have compressors. I don’t. I hand pump only so I don’t want to have to stop and pump up my air rifle when I need to pest or want to target shoot.

Almost ritually shoot, pump, wipe down then store.

Yip same here.... Oh oh there is an intruder at the door! Excuse me could you just hold on a moment while I fill my Ghost HP back up to 250bar? Yeah? OK thanks....15 minutes later, ok you can come in now ⚔
OK just kidding but yeah I hand pump as well so filled back to max, wiped down and back into storage 90% of the time. Need em ready for pesting. After range days I will refill only 1 and put them both away, and refill the other the next available night. Ordinarily around the house shooting I will refill well before going off reg. If I owned 300bar guns though I would also only fill them to 250 bar as well, I see that argument.

O-rings are made to seal under pressure so they are more apt to be damaged being stored at a low pressure. Fill them to the pressure that you use when you are shooting them and they should last longer. Some of my guns hold 4500 but they are unregulated and I shoot at 3900 for the best groups and that is what I store them at. Pump guns should also be stored with pressure.

I even store my hand pump under pressure . I bought a best fittings plug. When I'm done filling I will install and throw a few bar in it.

All my PCPs are 250 BAR fills… I am not overly concerned about what pressure I store my PCPs as long as its above the regulator “set point”. For a shooting or pestting session? As close to a full fill as possible, with my regulated PCPs I don’t fret about a few +/- BARs as its always a diminishing returns thing filling from an SCBA.

I fill all my guns to the max. For 300 bar, the bottle is tested at a much higher pressure like 450-500 bar so should be no issues at the recommended fill.

I generally don’t fill before storing, like others I just keep it above the reg if it has one.
I do note with tape or in my notebook what pressure I put it away at. Not all my guns, but the ones I rely on for pesting or target shooting. My Notos and PP700SA aren’t closely monitored haha

Hey I monitor too on my Notes App. It’s pressure and last time used
