EVOL Evol 30 ammo choices

Last edited:
Nice shot, the evols are great at being a point and shoot and not question whether or not the rifle will perform.

What do you think of it so far?!
I put 150 JSB 44.75g pellets through it yesterday just plinking and a few ground squirrels out to 70 yards nothing serious. No question it’s a shooter. I’m looking forward to getting it on the bench and seeing what it will do on paper and at what distance. I’m very impressed so far and can’t believe I waited this long to buy one. As of now this Evol has nothing about it I would change.
More to follow…..

There’s a new sheriff in town😬 I’ve been after this guy for a couple weeks now. This squirrel has been digging up my RC airfield. Not a very long shot. 32 yards just got my new eval 30 today from Tristan zeroed it at 30(for now) with the JSB 44.75g. I set up on the airfield and waited.
Oh heck ya. Keep the photos coming I love that AZ backdrop you have going on...makes me miss the West.

I have a question for all participating in this thread, hopefully within the next month I will be placing an order for my Paradigm in .30 caliber, I reached out to Tom to ask if I could get my paradigm in 15" configuration over the 18" configuration. I like shooting a shorter barrel rifle more, I am not opposed to the 18" barrel version and luckily I will have a Tac .30 with 18" to play with soon as a loaner.

Is anyone here shooting the 15" barrel or is everyone shooting the 18"?

Have some Zan 56 grain pellets, JSB 44.75, & JTS Dead Center 45.06 left over from testing today. Give me a holler if you'd like to try any/all of those, will put together a goodie bag for your testing.
Offer applies to anyone I missed too.
I appreciate that man, and thank you. Currently, I have the Zan’s, the 44 gr and someone just gifted me a tin of the JTS, so I am personally set.

Appreciate the offer Greg but I have to agree with Kevin doing the best tests with them. After I get the 42cc plenum extension I will be trying some different NSA slugs. I really want to find one that will beat the FX Hybrids. I want a better bc if I am going to shoot a slug and I would rather not have to pull a patch through the barrel so much. I also just really like his business and how he has progressed and looked out for the community by increasing production and decreasing cost with new high speed presses and feel that should be rewarded and supported. Of course the bottom line is that the most accurate gets shot but I am going to make sure that NSA gets the best chance to come out on top.

Agree regarding Nick- not a slug guy at this time, but if I ever am his products will get every chance to succeed.

I wasn't planning on being a slug guy either but the Paradigm kinda changed that. Back in the early '90s I had a Volquartsen Mossad Sniper .22rf that I used to cream clay pidgeons with at 250y on the regular. It was super fun, and the Paradigm reminds me of it, and has me trying that stuff again. I have to click up 14.6mils at 235y with the Hybrids and that's just too much. I need to get a high bc slug for this kind of fun.

I would think that you would have to get it with the 42cc plenum extension and set the regulator high, like 2900psi, get a heavier hammer or stiffer spring, to burp the power out quick or it will be really loud. It will certainly have a really low shot count, but a mag(6-9 shots) has always been enough for me. I am curious to see how you make out with it. I am finding it increasingly difficult to be as accurate with my shorter guns these days, enjoy them while you can.

Shooting gear reviews reviewed an older .30 magnon (15") and got 27 shots per fill at 880fps with 44.75 and it is not terribly loud in the video.

The evol paradigm with 3 inch less barrel and tube ... the thought makes me drool 🤤

Just watched it, I'm surprised it did so well on the shot count. He did have the regulator at 2500psi. Since you will have a couple of different versions I'm going to be real interested on your take of noise to power. I noticed the difference going from 2000 to 2300psi in an 18" barrel, so 2500psi with a 15" will be more I would think. The plenum extensions could change all of this too. I was reading the other weekend about getting pellets to speed faster, with more effecient plenums at higher psi being actually quieter when pushing heavier projectiles to boot. A lot of things to try out.

I will definitely let you know and will keep everyone posted, I will consult with Tom too as I want to order the best setup (as far as plenum goes) this rifle will be pellet only for me , 100y bench rest/coyote gun.

So, I have noticed on my .30 that I can tell immediately when I’ve come off the regulator because the sound of the shot changes. It is actually louder as the shot pressure drops below the set point. While I’m shooting on the regulator the moderator is incredibly effective especially considering it’s size.
I think the moderator for the Evol is supposed to be a Tesla valve design. (Not the car manufacturer) the harder you try to blow through a Tesla valve the more restriction there is. So as the power starts to drop on the Evol the moderator is less effective.
I would expect that it would become more effective at higher reg psi settings… probably only to a certain point at which the moderator would need to be increased in length to accommodate the additional air input. At what point that would be I have no idea as I have not adjusted a single thing on mine since purchasing it.
I’ll be interested to see (just for curiosities sake) if the new plenum extensions affect the moderator’s effectiveness any.

The shot report when coming off the reg definitely changes to more of a loud THUD
It's a nice sound stock. I think the attached moderator keeps up and surpasses the best of them, plus it was designed for the Evol. I just saw some clipping issues with an Evol .30 recently with a 3rd party moderator.
