my first air gun was a daisy lever action that shot cork balls stuffed into the muzzle. It was a Christmas gift from my dad when i was about 7! interesting Christmas day memory was my dad on his knees in front of a house full of family proving to my mom how safe it was by having me shoot him in the butt. Fast forward 65 years of shooting and i have my first PCP on the way to my door via Fed Ex. I'll bore you with more shooting memories as I look for guidance once the gun arrives. :sleep:

Welcome! Nothing wrong with memories. Air rifles are a lot of fun and the community is awesome.

Read the discussions and you will learn a ton and answer a lot of your questions. Also do not hesitate to ask questions here as well. Really smart people here for sure!

Awesome, I love sharing memories from the golden age.
 
but my first real air gun was a daisy model 25, probably when I was about 10. added a daisy scope, cheapest piece of crap i ever saw, but i shot thousands of shots with it in my basement range, capturing the bb's and recycling them. actually shot apart the tube that shot out the bb's and had to replace it.
 
also managed to have my first AD with a "firearm" shooting a BB into the palm of my hand from an "unleaded gun" to see how hard the air blast coming out was. Off to the family Dr who laid my hand down on his fluoroscope and pulled it out. Mom freaked. I did figure out how it happened. the barrel wasn't completely screwed in and had left enough room for a bb to be under the end of it. After several shots to insure it was empty, I noticed it wasn't screwed in and when i did, the bb popped into the barrel, and soon into my palm. cheap life lesson

Just be careful & don't fall down the rabbit hole, It is adictive I myself jumped in head first, Thankly it is deep waters. Don't hesitate to ask for HELP when needed. I myself am more of a let loose with my posts, but try to keep it real

OK! Pinty Vanguard came in yesterday after dinner. Included 2 magazines and a single loading insert. lots of spare parts. Short receiver but my UTG bug buster fit onto the receiver rail and I didn't have to use the plastic extension rail.
The gun is pretty short and well balanced, nice and light. Side lever is smooth and has fed flawlessly.

Darn near died pumping it up. Gun gauge and pump gauge don't quite read the same and I had to give up before hitting the max. I'm 220 lb and it took all my weight to get it to 200 bar gun gauge, 2500 pump gauge. I don't have a chrony and haven't bothered seeing how many shots i get off it. I just lightly zeroed it at 15yds with 15gr predator polymag's. Both mags loaded OK, but the polymer tips needed a bit of jiggling to clear and rotate.
I let it set over night and didn't see any pressure loss.

Trigger was way better out of the box than what i could ever get with the bone collector, breaking at about 8oz.
Both mags ran flawlessly. I milled a ramp into one side of the single loading block so pellets roll down into the feed ramp.
Accuracy, I can't speak to yet and i have less than 20 round through it and only the polymags. I'll take it to the range where I can rest it properly next week. But this afternoon, off the top of my AC unit, i took 3 squirrels in 15 seconds at 15 yards, all hit close to where I was aiming, I'd say an under 1" group. Damn I like shooting semi auto!

Pumping is a serious pain in the back, but bearable if you just keep topping it off. For this gun with the small tank, not sure if the trade off of having to haul out an electric pump to top off every 20 or so shots is worth it unless you are doing a serious target shooting session. Maybe a tank and electric pump combo is the way to go.

I did need to use high rings to clear the magazine and that meant I needed to add a pad to get my head up to proper height for the scope. Medium high rings are just a 1/16" too low for the sight adjustment bulge on the scope body to cleas a magazine and the rail mounting length of the receiver is too short for a longer scope than the bug buster without using the plastic extension ahead of the receiver.
I really wish I could go with medium rings because it would put the line of sight about a third of an inch closer to the bore of the barrel. I am guessing sighting in at 15 yds will put it a bit high at 20 or 25. I'm going to have to test to find the best zero range. Suggestions welcome!
The sound moderator gives a nice bark, pleasant to my ears. not sure if it is a quiet that some neighborhoods might want, but ok in mine.
But after a life time of springers, I love the shooting feel of the PCP.
And at $136 delivered(+ tax of course) I am thrilled with it.
