250Z Barra 250z .22 Choked Barrel?

It’s a given that your compressor will fail again. I’m saying that based upon all of the reports of similar experiences. My first one is the Toauto and probably the same as the Vevor. I replaced it with te GX and it seems to be solid. I’m not wishing it upon you.
My ToAuto compressor i bought failed one week after the warranty expired so they of course wouldn't help me. That was 6 years ago and it was my first pcp compressor. I've moved on to the GX line of pumps and have not looked back since. Great compressors!

You all know I'm a newby, so I'll give all you vets a laugh for the day. When I got the Barra, I wanted a more powerful compressor, so I ordered the GX CS4i. First time I filled the Barra from empty, I set the stop and turned it on and watched; and then I watched some more. That got old pretty fast so I turned my back and sat down as it seemed to be taking forever to get past one bar. I was totally caught by surprise when it shutoff several minutes later at about 3.5k. I didn't time it, but I was shocked by how quickly it topped off at some point. Thank God for the stop setting!

I think these were some bore shots of my 250z. But these weren’t the really bad ones that I’ve mentioned.

1 of 6, on your first set was a problem to work on, but the rest did not look that bad to me. Your breech pictures look pretty good! I can tell that they worked the lands down, on mine they did nothing. Not the worst example for a Barra barrel that I have seen that's for sure. I'd try to lap or polish that bad spot though, if a pellet pushed through evenly, otherwise, no.

I don’t have it anymore lol. But, that’s what I was meaning the other day, you can’t necessarily see the constrictions with a bore scope. Then of course I’m aging, I’ll probably wake up tomorrow and realize these are photos of my Ghost lmbo 🤣😂🤣

I have been going through old threads like this one to update my thoughts since borescoping my barrel yesterday.

The worst of the marks in your barrel Bill, are not as bad as the ones in mine. The difference between our reports seems to be that you felt a lot of irregularities pushing a slug down the bore, and I do not. I don't even feel where the marks are, and the bottom line is that it shoots great. Since I'm not going to do anything with the information, I could have skipped all this and been happy about it, but I do think the borescope will be handy down the road for other inspections. This all just leads me to think that pushing a slug down the barrel is a better indicator of how a barrel might shoot than looking down the bore is, and shooting it reveals the actual truth. I am not going to clean the barrel for a couple of hundred rounds and see if my gouged spots are collecting lead. If not, I am not going to give them another thought.

I decided to carefully slug my Barra 250z barrel today in the hopes of possibly buying some swaging dies for it. I didn’t want to deal with taking the air tube apart and so I decided to go from the muzzle to the chamber. I understand the risk. The first six to eight inches from the muzzle seemed tight then the slug practically slid to a few inches from the chamber and hit a tight spot and then fell out of the breech. I’m thinking the barrel might be choked. I know @Northeastbeast had a choked barrel and so it’s possible. Has anyone slugged their barrel? I came up with .219” . But, if it’s choked, it doesn’t mean much.
Don’t laugh, really new to this world. But what is slugging a barrel. By just the name of it, I imagine it means determining what size slugs will properly fit through the barrel. But let me in on this one, please and thank you.

Yes, you push a slightly oversized slug through the barrel. As you push it through you can feel/determine rough/high/low spots in the barrel. You can also inspect/measure the slug.

I was really confused by this too but it will save you a lot of time and heart ache if you do it… take a slug and hit it with a soft mallet so it fattens up a bit. Push it into the breach and use a wooden dowel to push it into the barrel and so it fully engages the rifling. Push it back out and measure it. This is how I found out my karma EQ has a .3025 barrel.

If anyone laughs at you they are a tool don’t mind them. This forum is for questions like this. I’m not even a full year ahead of you. Read, ask questions and shoot as much as possible. You’ll be a salty old dog in no time.
