I re read the title to this thread with some amusement. I recall when dropping something meant that it was discontinued.

It’s hip-hop jargon. Apparently there are a lot of people in Hollywood that despise the use of “dropped” feeling that it degrades their craft when used in lieu of “released”. All, the more reason to use it, even if it is grammatically incorrect lol.
