Any of you intrepid HAMmers cooked up a ballistic coefficient for the AEA 21.9 grain .22 pellets?

I did a while back, using the 1-yard & 55 yard velocities, but was suspicious of the result. Didn't report here because it seemed out of left field. After ~6 weeks of shooting on windy days or not at all... seems that result was right.

Yes, will tell you that result, but want someone else to go first 😄

And yes, I know bc isn't perfect or even "right", no interest in rehashing that discussion. I do find it useful - if comparing numbers generated by the same gun/barrel at each pellet's favorite speed - as a general indicator of how much each will get pushed around by wind. All I'm going to say about that.

Took that data and plugged it into the basic ballistic program I use for building my shirt pocket drop charts. To get all the numbers to line-up with my real shooting data I used a G1 BC of 0.033.

@BBGunn, I don't want to come across as a dick, but pellets use GA and conventional slugs use G1, usually. I have no way of knowing who knows what, or if it was a typo, but I just thought you and anyone following might benefit knowing that. I do the same thing as you. I shoot at different distances and see what's actually happening and back calculate using Strelok Pro and I get really useful numbers to me.

The very basic software I use doesn't have GA as an option. :LOL:

I know, my way of establishing a drop chart is crude and outdated but I limit my air rifle hunting shots to close distances so my 'shirt pocket' charts work well, and have for decades now. :cool:

Better come clean- my result was G1 of 0.049. And that might've been suppressed a bit by a 12 o'clock wind, light at 2-3 mph but a headwind nonetheless, when taking the 55 yard readings.
Seemed a bit too good to be true, but shooting in the recent winds has backed it up. Definitely pushed around less than 20.8 grain JSB, & waayyy better than 18.3 JSB from any of the rifles (more than a few) I've used them in.
Make no mistake, it's still a pellet form factor so it does get pushed. Expected it to be a skosh better than the 20.8 with the extra weight. Just not this much better.

Don't have an explanation for why it's so high. Standard 1:17 twist, 12 land/groove CZ barrel, not one of the slow twist poly barrels reported to produce better bc (at least sometimes).
It's unchoked, maybe that helps? Are your barrels choked?

Not complaining, will gladly accept a little less wind drift.

I don't believe it's crude, I believe it is the best way if you have the time and the patience. Carry on soldier, lol

My Barra barrel is un-choked.

I have read other reports using AEA 21.9s that have numbers like yours..., maybe even a little higher. But various written reports I have found claim results that are very different. From in the .03ish to .05ish range.

For me, I don't really stress much about ballisitcs. So long as my dial-ups allow me to drop a pellet within a fraction of perfect in the vitals of vermin I am good. :cool:
 
I think it really depends alot on conditions when you take your readings. The other day i was right on at 100 with strelok today i was hitting low. The other day was low humidity and 75 degrees today high humidity and 40 degrees
You can enable local weather conditions into Strelok Pro. That would help with atmospherics. I don't turn it on either, but I know it's there.
