Woogie, what was your experience with it on first round shot after the gun was sitting for a bit? Was doing some reading on another gun with a balanced valve and it sounds like its a known thing that a balanced valve can have a "dud" of a first round shot...being a hunter that would be a deal breaker for me, but I have no experience with any balanced valve guns.

If you were referring to the Epic, this I have heard is an issue. I had the HPS Woogie has/had and to be honest, it never, ever deviated from the last shot a week or two before and the first shot that day.

Toms balanced valve is like nobody elses, The first cold shot @Woogie_man mentioned youd see with any air rifle in those conditions, Woogie probably shoots in the coldest weather of anyone here lol.

I'll start with saying that you will have reliability issues at -20f; airgun or firearm. I believe Woogie said several Voodoos went down at this competition as well.

Viton, used for the reservoir seals, is rated at -13f but that is for a static seal. Airgun reservoirs easily run at delta of 2500psi. If your airgun will operate in these conditions then go for it, but if you not operating out of your back door I'd suggest something else

The balance valve in the EVOL has no moving O-rings. Because there are no dynamic O-rings to squish, roll, or extrude; low velocity first shots are not an issue.

If you run off the regulator and get a hot fill expect a slightly high first shot. If you let that hot fill settle and cool, you may loose about 5-8 fps. Keep in mind hot air has more kinetic energy than cold air. These characteristics are common to all regulated airguns and are not related to the valve design.

The real issues with extreme cold other than the rubber are the materials, clearances and lubrication choices used in design of the moving parts. Aluminum has a much higher thermal coefficient of expansion than steel; only aerospace grade lubricants can handle extreme heat and cold, etc. The point is there are compromises everywhere.

Correct there were a few voodoo rifles that froze as well. So it wasn't just the airgun

Honestly I didn't see anything that would hurt it for hunting. I did see a really low first few shots after having it out in that extreme cold. But those were the only drop shots that I saw.

When I took the gun out hunting, I had my dad shoot it at 100 yards after having the rifle sit for a few days. He lined up ans put a pellet right where he was aiming.

Exactly what I was wondering! No extreme environments like that I would not have unreal expectations for equipment, especially an airgun. What you took that particular gun through was a great hard use test. I lived up in kalispell, MT for a couple years, when it gets below 15 degrees, I stay inside by the fire and watch airgun hunting vids dreaming of spring

Yep, the epic was what I was reading on. I figured something like that would never set well with AAA, but had to see what your guys findings were.

Glad to hear about the balanced valve in these not having the orings other airguns have. One of the main reasons I don't like balanced valves is that first shot lower FPS. Not sure why I'm surprised about these not having that issue, Tom sure puts in the work on these guns

Apparently EGW has them and is the retailer for them in the states, go figure, evol body, edgun repr reg.... anywho.... A buddy of mine in Colorado had one and he had the 1st shot blues every time.

The HPS on AGN is not the same as the one you just had. Its my old rifle. Its a pellet shooter. Same as our paradigms but the barrel is longer by 3 inches and airtank as well. It also lacks the extra picatinny on the top rail.

I think the problem with the HPS22 CTAirgunner owned is that it was designed around a specific NSA slug which is no longer available. Thus the reason for it being relegated to pellet duty.

Which slug did it shoot? I have access to a Corbin Swaging die kit, in .218 diameter. There is a possibility that I may be able to make the slug and get it shooting. But if it is the same barrel as the Paradigm, then we tried about everything
