New Umarex Gauntlet Limited Edition

The new Umarex Gauntlet Limited Edition is a post-SHOT Show surprise. It shows how the platform is still capable of creating surprises in the market!

The Limited Edition majors on two big, new changes. One is the appearance of a laminated wood stock. The second is the inclusion of a carbon fiber HPA bottle.

Oh, there’s a carbon fiber barrel shroud, too. That’s another new improvement with this model.

The laminated stock is – in my opinion – by far the best-looking stock that has appeared on a Gauntlet. The laminate colors look classy: not garish but immediately eye-catching.

There’s plenty of laser checkering on the forend, plus there’s a Picatinny rail for mounting a bipod. The adjustable cheek piece looks both stylish and useful. It’s combined with a rubber buttpad, as can be seen from these photographs.

Previous Gauntlets have all had Aluminum HPA bottles. So the carbon fiber bottle on the Umarex Gauntlet Limited Edition model is a big upgrade. At 500 cc capacity, it’s also larger than many previous Gauntlet bottles.

Another change over the years has been the regulator and fill pressures. The original Gauntlet had a reg pressure of 1,100 PSI and a 3,000 PSI HPA bottle.

These new carbon fiber bottles fill to 4,350 PSI (300 bar) and the reg pressure now stands at 2,100 for the .22 cal model. For the .25 cal it’s 2,200 PSI and the .30 cal model uses 2,800 PSI on the regulator.

The result is seen in the power levels and shot count. In .22 cal, Umarex USA claims 67 consistent shots at 32 Ft/Lbs of Muzzle Energy. The claim is 53 consistent shots at 56.4 Ft/Lbs in .25 caliber. A Muzzle Energy of 97.5 Ft/Lbs and 32 consistent shots are the numbers for the .30 cal version.

The price starts at $779.99 for the .22 caliber Limited Edition model, increasing slightly for the larger calibers. They are in stock now at Pyramyd AIR…

It's nice to see them still taking care of the Gauntlet. I still love my trouble free first production run Gen1 and I was just shooting it this weekend at my 100y spinners. The new wood stock does look nice, and comfortable. The Gen 2 stock doesn't look comfortable to me, the Gen 1 is very comfortable with the only down side being the bottle cage. I never liked the bottle cage idea, but it hasn't been an issue either. If you don't like compacts or bullpups, these are still great shooting airguns.

Yes! And I remember a whole lot of people at the time saying how accurate theirs was but they never warmed up to them because they weren't cool enough. Everybody moved on to the next best thing, but I always appreciate an accurate trouble free shooter, and I am very likely to grab it, heading out to plink. SouthernGunner on YouTube was the guy (Not Ted Bier) that got me to start working on pcps, but Ted was the reason that I got re-interested in them, in the first place. I was so mad that SouthernGunner wouldn't say how he got his Gauntlet to shoot so well that I started figuring it out for myself. For those that don't remember SG got sued by some guy trying to copy him (poorly) and stopped giving advice.

It really is. Honestly though, with the competition it has right now in this segment, I think they priced it too high. It should be at least $100 cheaper, even considering the bottle. There are some really modular guns, with lots of options, that kind of leave this gun hanging, at this price point. We'll see.

Finally, a good lookin' stock on these. I read all the great reviews of these, but did NOT like the appearance of those synthetic stocks! That's the reason I never purchased this PCP. Pretty die-hard trad appearance guy to be honest.

Good looking airgun and good price for what you get. The only drawback is a 10 pound airgun for hunting. Maybe I'm getting old. In my 20's I had a Beeman RX .20cal and never blinked an eye about the weight and cocking effort.

My main hunting buddy has a Haji-tuned G2 in .30 cal and it’s an absolute monster. Big power, excellent accuracy.

The only issue is that it’s 28 feet long and weight a metric short ton … not a hike and carry gun unless you’re the Rock or John Cena.

Its not just the weight but the way she carries it

My EQ weighs almost as much as my buddy’s gauntlet… we both will shoot my gun off hand no issues but neither of us bothers with the gauntlet. It’s awkward.

It's true that it's way to heavy with the long steel bottle, that's for sure! I put a little 330cc Carbon fiber bottle on mine and it is a nice holding gun, still long as a day though.

I LOVE the looks of it, and the Gauntlet is a awesome shooter. My pal has one and it's just amazingly accurate. I don't think it's priced all that high, as compared to some others, I dunno.
But, it's long, it's heavy, and fairly inefficient just from reading the specs on PA. 67 shots from a 300 bar fill in 22, from a 500cc bottle is not so great. Shot count is ok, but I know of other guns that will easily beat that with a 480cc bottle and more horsepower. I dunno, it just seems to be a looker to me.

Also, did I miss something? The other day when I looked at it, the price was $800, today it's $779? Maybe I read it wrong, dunno.
Maybe I'm just cranky in my old age

You know what though, the Ninja regulator on these guns is completely bulletproof. I have had mine since first release and it has never missed a step or needed to be touched. I can't say that about any of my other guns. Looking at some of the other regulators recently really makes me appreciate the Ninja.

The stock sucks. Its nice for a guy that has a field in his back yard. Get the haji skins, thank me later.

I use the BR mod stock on mine. HOWEVER: IT IS NOT MY FREEHAND RIFLE. The LOP is waaaaaaaaay to short with the br stock to make it a freehand. With that said it is going to be my soonne shot precision wonder.

The br stock, makes me hug up on it and pull tight, focus.

The stock tank and reg, off before first shot. It lives on a bag, rest, or pod personally. Carrying it to my destination, no big deal.

.7l carbon bottle, huben reg tuned to 3k. All day long with the 78 g griffins, and the h.s backed out from stock. (As I said though, not freehand)

42 shots per fill.

Its good. Really great at the price point. But I am snobby.

First mid tier price rifle, crowned long barrel. O.k. transition for the probe.

A little love,and I'll put it against your 1k rifle for 5 shots all day long. Ive got videos of its capabilities, exceeding my competency.

The gauntlet, aaaaaaallllmost the same.

You can not have a tensioned barrel with the gauntlet. People that have done so, have heavily modified their air rifle. I can buy a carbon tube and run a tap. Sorry, not sorry umarex.

The barrel, Jesus could perform surgery with how sharp the angle of this "crown" is. 100% 90° on my sl30. Thats getting remedied right now.

Its a solid driver out of box for most folks(sl30) but without the utmost precision, and loce and care given to it, I won't shoot their released sl30 past 140 yards confidently. I couldnt imagine paying over 700 for something that incapable.

I would say the gauntlet is absolutely superb, and beautiful in the woods stock, for those small game/pesting about to 100 yards, out of the box. WITH PROPER BACKSTOP. But for those seeking a longer touch I would recommend modification, and test/trial, prior to trust.

@Cantona256 said it himself that his friends is haji tuned, a 500 turned to 1000+ rifle. From clean up work for accuracy at distance. Maybe I am insane, or maybe I am practical. I know i am handy, so I will be targeting a consistent accurate rifle out to 180, 200 yards tops for this .30 caliber rifle.

More than that, I believe will come from familiarity with it, post work. Not out of the box.

I should note, sooooooooooo many people underestimate what 100 yards really is with a regular pump, or break barrel. Please, measure out 300 feet, put a regular soda can at the 300 feet, and hit it with your rifle within 7 shots. That will give you an idea of half, of what I want out of this rifle.

Yeah his haji tuned gauntlet is a monster. A big reason I went so crazy with my EQ is that I wanted to try and get a similar performance. I was very envious.

That really is a nice looking rifle! My buddy has a .25 cal SL Gauntlet and it is a very accurate shooter.
