Favorite cleaning pull?

I would look to see if there is still lead present in the rifling. Something like this

I'd guess that could be depending on any cleaning process used.. I guess why I wet/ patch after so many shots regular then do the brass / bronze/steel/ wool pulls (2 to 4 wet/ oiled) like 2000 shots just to " scrape" the groves of hard buildup like the lead . I use auto ytan fluid as a pellet lube so the more 250 shot patch job is done wether it needs it or not ..lol .

Is an absolutely lead free barrel best? I thought you want leading for accuracy.
???? I think it's gun depending.. then air gunning is the only place I've read a dirty never cleaned barrle is best .

Drill sarge gramps would say , " boy a clean barrel is a accurate barrel".

Me I guess gunk in the rifling hampers the reason you got rifling .. ijdk 🤔.

Now maybe if it's drilled loose and poor loose pellet fit maybe build up helps ?

Yeah it’s probably gun dependent.
I only clean when the gun is new and that’s pretty much it. Once in a while if i feel like it I’ll pull some patches but definitely don’t want manufacturers crud

In this it's a everyone's got there thing on what they find best .. if it's working for you it's working for you.. lol.

If you add something I may like I'll try it and see if it's something I can use ..

I’m no expert here. The barrel in the photo is from a big bore that shoots slugs mostly. I cleaned the barrel with a Patchworm kit and still saw lead in the rifling. When accuracy appears to be affected, cleaning is a good first step for me. I hunt with big bores so accuracy is important to me. I just started bore scoping my barrels this year and I’m still learning, hence my original question. As for the o-rings, I’d simply remove the breech o-ring to prevent damage then replace it once I finish cleaning. I think that some pull through systems can be rough on the breech o-ring.

Makes sense , I was thinking like a Notos or something. I’d imagine a big bore leads a lot.

Well you could make a string puller like I use with a loop then use this brass / bronze / copper / steel wool and pinch off a nice fitting wad to pull like a patch to give you a better scrub.. I also use scotch Brite ( never dry). No one sells the wools around here anymore so ..

The wools come in grades like course , medium, fine. Pick your poison on whats best in a need . Dip it in solvent and give a few pulls to break up harder stuff as you would use the bore brushes..

Using stock Brite or "steel" wool never use dry ... Never. So many dis using them 2 but I've used it for many years no issues. Then I don't get carried away with them and use good oils on them.

@PasadenaMike To my understanding, airguns that shoot smooth slugs lead up a traditional styled rifled airgun barrels way more than pellets. I’m not sure about the smoother FX styled barrel liners. Another thing I look for with the borescope are rough areas in the rifling that lead up more than others. I’m told that these rough spots can be lapped in attempt to improve accuracy. Again, I’m no expert, but it’s something that interests me. I’m looking for more information and correction in areas that I have misunderstood.

After cleaning using a pull-through cleaning system and looking down the barrel I’m wondering if a different cleaning method is necessary. Ultimately my subsequent shots should let me know if the pull through cleaning system is adequate.

Heck yeah that’s why I love ag’s and airgunning you can do whatever you’d like and however you’d like. Everyone takes a different approach and it’s interesting to learn about it

I got to wonder in the slugs ( or pellets) the lead used .. like softer would smear in the rifling more then a harder or something formula lead would or shot count before leading up happens ?

This older thread is still pretty góod. I usually use Patchworm, and still do for .22 and up, if I don't make my own with trimmer line. Lately, I have found they can be a little too light duty for .177. Had to use a cleaning rod, they still work well, and quickly too, just not very totable all the time. Using slugs in .177 has kind of changed the dynamic for me, never cleaned them much before.

That nylon harness thread it pretty tough.

In .22 I use a rod and brass brush if new gun dirty. But the string with a wool or pad or patch does most after . I don't let a barrel go past a 1000 shots . A pass with a party ch is like a wipe it down regularly. Maybe average patch clean at 250+/- . Mostly I think it's the self lubing of pellets that most of my buildup in the barrels. This cleaning is a to each his own on what's best for them I guess .. I thing as Sargent gramps would say " boy .. a dirty gun ain't a accurate gun,". .. " now drop and give me 50" ..lol🤤

I wish I would have used a rod and brass brush for this new Notos. It took so long with just patches and soaking with ballistol.
Chinese guns in the future will get the initial cleaning with rod.

Well... I can't get the brass/ Bronze or copper wool local anymore but I stoop to steel wool and stoch Brite on my string pulls . Just be sure there well oiled never dry for deep cleaning maybe a far between pull now and again to keep things spiffy.

I guess a guy could maybe l order the brass types .. not even Lowes or home Depot or a paint store around here has any anymore.

Just decided on grade ( course, med, fine ,ect)
