EVOL American Air Arms please!

I shot a prototype .177 Evol one time, maybe 4-5 years ago Tom showed up at a field target match with it. Had some special barrel in it, Bartlein or something maybe? And also had some of Tom's magic, a unique concept I've not seen repeated in any other PCP yet.

What a cool gun.

He's a busy guy, and I don't know that it'll happen. But I'd sure be excited to do the full-on, all-out review process on it, specifically for field target, if he ever finds the time. Hint hint @American Air Arms 😬

I really wanted a .25 and still haven't seen that yet either. I still think that, if selling an Evol for hunting purposes, that a .25 for woodchucks would sell better than a .30, especially since an Evol doesn't have the air capacity of a large bottle. A mini in .177 would be a great idea too, as they sip air anyway.

It seems like I was told that the shop's tooling will not be able to produce a 177 caluber because of the tiny internal diameter. If someone wanted a 177 though, it wouldn't be too hard to turn the new 22 Mini HPS into a 177 with a good machinist. Three parts need to be made to fit: the transfer port, the probe, the barrel.

You need more than that...

Tom provided me with a couple of the new style hammers, a transfer port, and a probe ... all remaining from the project that @Franklink mentioned, and the Mini air tube to convert my Standard 22 to a 177 to use in AAFTA field target pistol at 12 ft lb and EFT pistol at 20 ft lb.
I machined a new valve assembly, a 12 inch barrel with shroud, and bought some CARM mags in 177. It shoots exceptionally well but is a bit light so stabilty is poor compared to the Thomas, RAW, or my P Wolf ...

Sooo... I cut a 15" barrel to be able to use the factory tensioned shroud....

This is a top 3 favorite in my collection and I shoot it a LOT ...
I think it's near 9 lb as shown so I bought a lighter butt stock and got it down to 8 lb with the Sightron and can get near 7 with a 1 inch tube Weaver V16. I really like the balance more with the PRS Lite stock, so that's how it is unless using for FT.

SubMOA can't make 177s because the tooling isn't available for that small of bore.
Tom isn't making 177s other than that because he has mainly been focused on hunting airguns and even though he's more interested in competitions now, they're pretty tapped out for production and so the 22 and 30 have a higher priority.

He's definitely got the 177 comp rifle in mind, though.

I honestly don't know if the HPS valve and hammer could work for a 177. If I remember , I'll ask him the next time I'm there.

Anyway this EVOL 177 IS wonderful, to me. I shoot it WAY more than I ever did as a 22, even though it was incredibly accurate and nice to shoot...

Would you know if he’s still making the EVOL .22 18” Very difficult to contact and obtain any info from AAA-Tom!
I don't ... I only visit a few times per year and we don't talk production much... mainly development , barrels, and ideas.
Best to contact AoA if Tom isn't responding. Between the barrel making, developing the HPS, and trying to get caught up on some larger orders, he's a VERY busy guy...

As Azrover stated a 12 or 20 fpe 177 on the EVOL platform is not an easy task.

In a nutshell, the valve, port volume, and plenum are way too large to operate at those power levels consistently. Aslo hammer energy is also too much.

While I was successful a few years ago with some highly specialized parts, I concluded the setup had way too many compromises to get the power level down and determined a platform of its own was necessary.

I do have access to some superb 177 barrels that I commissioned before Sub-MOA, the hold up is the development of a new platform which will not happen in 2026.

Is the APEX benchrest .30 going to be available via AOA?

They have 5 due at the end of this month. Check with their sales staff to see what is available
Tom, thanks for chiming in here hope all is well with you and yours? My question should have been are you still currently producing a .22 pellet capable unit like the EVOL 18 “ barrel version that you made a few years back? Looking for a gun for UFT <50 lbs to 65 yds. In .22 That’s American Made.
Thx
Joe

There are some product line changes coming that I am very excited about. The EVOL line has evolved into the hps and the standard EVOLs line is being retired.

There are very good reasons for this, mainly, the similarities and differences are too large. The hps deserves it own identity and the original EVOL needed updating.

Expect something new to fill the original EVOL's place that fills its mission of simple, precise and robust with some subtle enhancements.

I understand the EVOL replacement will have a bottle. Any other details or timeframe? I've waited a year to hopefully get one of your guns and will wait how ever long it takes. Thank you for creating the standard!
