Benchrest 100yd 5x5 Challenge Inspired by Franklink

Shot a couple over the weekend.

First one is from my Veteran Long, here,

The overall score wasn't great, but the average group size (bottom left) was pretty decent.

And the other one is from the Daystate Blackwolf.

Again, the benchrest score isn't great, but the average group size (bottom left) is respectable.

Winds were shifting around and it kept getting me when quartering in from bout 2 o clock, pushing pellets down and left.
It seems like it’s really tightening up.

Most of my airgun experiences have been like this, they very rarely come out of the box shooting their best. Takes time to figure out reg pressures, and hammer tension, and barrel cleaning regimens and frequencies, and which type of pellet they prefer, and then which batch of that type of pellet they prefer, and then what speed all of the above shoots best.

It's a process, even for expensive guns.

@FL22, your Vet seems to like that those NSAs.
I think I’m going to have to break down and finally polish the barrel. Shooting mostly pellets at 50y it didn’t seem to warrant it.

I just picked up another six boxes and 6 cans of JTS 43.06 slugs to try. I read on another forum someone with a Taipan .25 was singing their praises, but he wasn’t getting much of a response from the community.

I’ll find out if mine likes them.

I couldn’t bring myself to try JTS slugs in the Sonoran. Their pellets are priced on par with AEA, but they’re proud of their .30 slugs. If they do well, I might try a tin.

I learned a lesson when I was testing pellets with the Taipan, I purchased the entire JTS .25 line up but only one tin of the semi domed 29.32 having preconceived notions that it wouldn’t like them.

It didn’t like anything else lol.

Here is today’s submission.
I was shooting the Sonoran.30 with AEA
45 grain pellets and I shot the Ghost with my 22 caliber slug barrel with AEA 21.9 grain pellets. Both guns shot well. Right to left cross wind (3 to 6mph) and switching direction while shooting. Measured in MOA

Sonoran MOA average 1.498
Ghost with Slug barrel average 1.63
