Blackwolf Finally Saw Evidence Of A Blackwolf In BR Competition

Just watched Atlas Airguns new video drop. I finally saw a Blackwolf being shot in competition and it was doing well. I’ve been hoping to see them in benchrest competition. I don’t know where it finally placed, but was in 2nd place during the video.

Not benchrest, but my buddy Peykan just used his .177 Blackwolf to take the Founders Cup (field target) this past weekend.

Founders Cup is a fun yearly match for us here in AZ. The four founders of the club put this together many years ago. Traveling trophy, stays with the winner for the year and the winners name goes on a plaque on the back of it. Bragging rights mostly, but also just a fun competition with the on the line.

The top 10 at RMAC last year all shot slugs. The top 9 were shooting ace slugs and Matt Dubber finished in 10th place shooting some other slugs.

Despite the occasional “my Blackwolf shoots slugs great” that I see in comments but never see pics or videos of …. These guns aren’t slug shooters.

I like to troll these threads because I low key wanna start a crusade against this company.

Please please please stop sending AOA $4,000 at a time for these monstrosities. Spend half the money on a Red Panda or Panthera and you’ll outshoot any Daystate by a country mile. $3950 before taxes is the biggest scam in airgunning.

You need to look at FT, HFT, EFT, Daystates and BRK do very well in those competitions. I’m not a fanboy for any of the brands and agree that airguns in general are overpriced, but that comes with it being a niche market where the majority of the buyers are in their later stages of life with more disposable income. I really don’t care what brands other airgunners are shooting, I just wish everyone would be honest about the pros and cons of their choices. You somewhat hurt your “crusade” by touting the FX as a better brand. There are hundreds of threads criticizing FX Airguns as being unreliable and at the very least inconsistent.

Yes airguns are overpriced in general. Thankfully I feel like the “bang for buck” is going up in relation to what these guns can do. But the snobbery is still extreme. The amount of “I don’t mess with those guns I just stick to my Daystate” I see is insane. The amount of times I see a new person come on here and go “new to airgunning what should I get?” Only to have multitude of old dudes say “get a D/A/B___ wolf” is insane.

Like you said it’s a niche market. But dudes be acting like the answer to all of life’s Airgun questions is “get a Daystate.” Lolol I know you saw the “2 guns for coyotes” thread on here and the first the MODs respond with is get an EVOL or a Ghost… FOR COYOTES!?!? Are you high? Unless you’re shooting the odd suburban coyote in your backyard a ghost shooting pellets at 90fpe ain’t cutting it. lol I realize that they have some kind of sponsorship deal with AoA but the amount of times I see “call AoA” is crazy to me. Why? So I can spend $4k on a gun they claim to check, arrives broken and requires me to send back multiple times? I’m good, thanks.

As for the EVOL I don’t know enough about it except that it’s expensive. Feels like a gun that was real nice 5-10 years ago but doesn’t seem to be keeping up with the developments in the industry. That’s fine if you’re Air Force and top of your niche. But I know I’m not paying $3k for a gun just because it says “made in America” on it. And when it comes to European things “made in Germany” has a lot more pull with me than “made in Britain.” I wanted something that was heavy, underpowered and with weird electrical issues I’d just buy a Jaguar

Ill respond to this once. If your going to hunt coyote's with an airgun you must understand the power you have a distance. Ive seen vid where they were shot with a 22 but at closer ranges not 200 yds so a 30 could easily kill a coyote at a reasonable distance. As far as the ghost its my personal favorite airgun. I find it to be very accurate, simple in design, not the most powerful but close to the top and very dependable. It sells for $2400 now i think my first 1 i bought for $1825 so not cheap but not $4000 either.
There’s no reason for a new guy to have to suffer through 10 guns before he finds what he wants and many of these cheaper Chinese guns weren’t available just 1 year ago which i might add some need a good amount of work to get shooting well

The number of decent quality/accurate airguns under $1000 seems to have exploded in the last 18 months or so.
I’m actually considering going out and trying for a coyote. I’ve seen several coyotes when deer hunting and allowed them to walk away. Only once were they more than 75yds away. I was usually in a tree stand. In most of Northern Florida, unless you are hunting a clear cut, your shots are going to be in thick brush. I’ve also spent a lot of time in the southwest deserts where shots and visibility are wide open. It’s a different game and requires different equipment.

RMAC like most events has several different competitions/Classes. Matt was referring to the Precision Marksman Challenge and not the 100yd Benchrest.

I have been pointing out the massive improvement in the sub $1,000 class for quite a while.
Reximex
Niksan
Barra
Snowpeak
etc
But the problem is between the parochial owners (I own X you should to) and the ones that had an issue 5 years ago and will never change their opinion you get a lot of pushback for recommending a sub $1,000 gun.

I have FX and RAW rifles, but the 2 that are my primary pest guns are a $390 Niksan Ozark-TW and a $588 Reximex Throne 2.

My grandfather told me MANY years ago when we were cleaning the guns and I was asking about various upgrades, to paraphrase,
"If you hit what you are aiming at, everything after that is optional"

I hear all about fit, finish, smooth trigger and various other justifications but not one person has been able to describe what is worth $2,000 on an Impact versus my Throne 2.

Again, competition you buy what you need for you to win.

Now ART is like every barrel and they are not showing results. This started with the Delta and Alpha wolf. Can’t state how many bad barrels I went through, but have laser accurate Red Wolf’s.

I just couldn’t stomach buying a Black Wolf just to have the first upgrade requirement be a barrel.

I’m not sure why you would buy a barrel as your first upgrade? Wouldn’t you want the pvc pipe first? . I’m sorry I’m just joking around . I really wanted a Blackwolf. It is one of the best looking air rifles in my opinion. If AOA would’ve taken my Sonoran back instead of replacing the barrel, I would’ve traded it towards the BW chassis.30. But, I am just not seeing a lot of. Super duper positive comments about it and I’m not willing to spend $3800 on one. I find it difficult to be impressed by a rifle that can group 1.5” at 50yds. I’m not knocking anyone that has one and I think Cole has done a great job tuning his. I really want a competitive 100yd benchrest gun, I’m just not sure that’s the BW.

If you looked inside the barrel of either one of my reveres you would be surprised at the difference compared to a stock ghost barrel. The reveres shine from 1 end to the other where the ghost barrels are dull and blackish. Daystate used to care but apparently not anymore or perhaps just the lower power guns matter.
