What'cha doing air gun related today?

That sir, is the nicest looking Notos I've ever seen!

Thanks guys. I’m a bit of a sucker for these pistol carbine rifles.🤪

Some might think that a walnut stock from Rink-Formgriffe would be a little over the top upgrade for a humble Notos. And they’re probably right, but what the heck? It only cost about twice what I paid for the Notos! It’s a hobby after all. Or…. maybe it’s a serious illness 🤒 ?

When I first saw the Notos in January 2022 I had this feeling it was going to be the next big sensation on the forums. It was the first Umarex and maybe the only Umarex product that has ever interested me. Had no idea it would become as popular as it has. Crazy
The idea for this started to brew in the back of my mind when it became obvious early on that the Notos and PP750 were in the same family and share the same grip frame. I’m not a huge fan of the whole tactical AR type stocks and looks, so using that as an excuse I managed to avoid buying a Notos for about a year after it hit the market. I was content just quietly following along with the hype that was building around it. But I finally caved in May 2023 when PA had a pretty decent sale on them. So despite my aversion to the tactical looks of it I bought one. I actually secretly hoped I would get a bad one or that I would hate the Notos so I would have a reason to return it right away and put this crazy build idea I was envisioning to rest.
Well… that didn’t happen. As it turned out, I quite liked the little carbine despite all the plastic AR style furniture but knew I could make it a whole lot better and more my style with a piece of expensive but oh so nice walnut.🥰 S@&#!… heavy sigh… So out came the ol’ credit card and onto the Rink website I went and placed an order. I just can’t get enthusiastic about them plastic tactical stocks. I want the wood. I need the wood. Give me the wood.

Started testing various slugs in my Snowpeak Max 1.

First up, FX Hybrid 26gr .25cal
Oooops, seems that setting the reg at 240 bar is a bit too much
1113 FPS 71.6FPE
I am pretty sure the supersonic CRACK is a hint to turn the regulator down just a tad.

Degassing now 😬
Reset to 200bar
Used a tether and great spread for such high velocity.

the group was less than stellar but im guessing the velocity is just a tinch high.

Start going through the H&N Slug sampler tomorrow, maybe.

I do some casual shooting and checking zero at a 8” steel plate I hang under my bird feeder. I use a paint removal head on an angle grinder and a thin layer of spray paint comes off super easy.
I was just drawing with sharpie bulls on it. I ordered a dot stencil and gave that a try today. It really makes this process quick and easy

I do something similar: I use a 24”x24” steel plate and make my own stencils. A quick blast of spray paint and I have a quick target. I just spray over it and shoot again. It’s not pretty, but it’s quick and easy.

I have a little OCD and hate when there is lead buildup and chipping when I shoot groups. I have spinners that I just spray over and over again.

Basically spent all day working on this beauty. I got a pro tip to drop some silicone oil in the hose before filling the gun. In order to help the reg break in and it’s actually made a difference. Reg is a lot easier to move as it doesn’t require as much dry firing to settle. It’s also a hell of a lot more “snappy” now.

I also perfected the first half of a “dual” tune. Basically, I’m doing a heavy slug and light weight slug setup on the same tune. The only thing that will change is the hammer spring settings…. Probably sounds dumb but I really think it can be done. I believe I have found a spot on the reg that I can shoot a 47.2gr Nielsen at 1000fps AND shoot 71gr hybrid boat tails @900fps.

Basically I think I can do this because I already have. I’ve gotten the 71gr to 900fps already and today I perfected the 47.2gr tune… lol 1000fps and I’m not sure if the BC I have for that slug is correct. Took a 139.6y shot at a squirrel today. With a 75y zero the calculator predicted a 3.1mil hold… sailed the first shot so went 2.5mil on the hold and his life was spared by a small branch 1” in front of his left cheek. 😭😭

So I still gotta work on BC numbers to figure it out but yeah. Turns out you can do a super light as fast set up on this gun.

Stay tuned for the 71s… I ordered a bunch more so I can fine tune before I show them off haha. I only had a little sampler of them but I liked them so much I ordered 500 of them the day after getting them in the mail haha.

I took the Aircuda' to the Range this morning. They wouldn't let me use the Electric for my compressor.
So I took the backup out the HW50s I haven't spent a lot of time with it. The HW30 is my Fav.
That gun has no problems hitting 6 inch splatter burst at 50 yards open sights. I had no idea till I walked to the target, I couldn't see anything but the little splatter burst. Sure enough of I didn't hit it every time. Not any groups to think of, but still , standing and holding that's just a testament to that rifle.
I'm putting the Williams peep Fp AG sight on it next.
I do like a springer and have never had a hold issue as I often hear.

With a place like that to shoot, a big .30 slug does make the most sense to be using, the Barra will have to wait, or just play second string. That's a really nice picture too, beautiful spot.

Very nice scenery to go with an awesome rifle! PJ at Karma released a video this morning about the adapter for a 4500 psi carbon fiber bottle your choice of size for your gun. It shaved a pound and a half getting rid of the steel tank and he said it's coming soon for sale. Put a 700L for lots of shots! 😎

Oh the Barra won’t be on the bench for long. The plenum mod will be here on Tuesday and since the Karma is giving me power I’m not gonna take the 250z up much higher…gonna set her up to shoot 35gr Franco’s at 950fps for a cool 70fpe.

The plenum is relevant here because it should allow me to drop the reg a few hundred psi. So I’m hoping this takes me back to 40 shots a fill. She also has some new glass on her.

The karma is overpowered for anything smaller than a coyote up to 100y. Does that mean I won’t use it?!? Of course not! But the barra will still be the tool of choice for most of my pesting.

My only regret is I that I can’t strap them to my shoulders like a transformer and shoot them at the same time. 😂😂😂😂😂

Also that spot is 1/2 a mile from my house! So like .9km for our metric friends 😂😂….but yeah I’m really blessed to have so much open space to shoot in! It’s hotter than hell in the summer but other than that I’ve got no complaints.
