What'cha doing air gun related today?

I did some more tinkering with the EQ and got her to shoot 62gr Varmintknockers at 910-915fps. Getting a full clip and maybe one extra on that setup for 22 shots a fill… I’ve got some headroom on the reg still but I have 47.2gr and 55gr still to test. I wanna see what they do before I move up. I like a flat shooter though. With a 47.2gr doing 1025fps my drop is only like 6.8mil at 200y. Which matters to me because the EQ has the Zulus on it where dialing just isn’t gonna happen. Not to mention it’s still doing 60fpe+ still…. The 55gr at 950 is the the same fpe and the ballistics are quite good too.

Here’s the thing. I’m gonna sacrifice power on this gun to go with speed instead. I like a flat shooter and the sound of a slug expanding explosively is really exciting to me. From what I can tell this gun is gonna need a bigger plenum or longer barrel to exceed 120fpe WITHIN REASON…. I have no doubt someone will beat that but my goal has always been to see what max power level is and still shoot a whole mag (22 rounds).

The reason I say this is because I think this is where the 1:16 twist rate comes in. I see no difference in accuracy in the 62gr doing 860 vs 915fps.. as long as it’s the right diameter this gun will stabilize anything I’ve thrown at it. I have a custom 71gr Hybrid Boattail coming and I suspect the gun is gonna love them. So if you’re the kind of guy who likes shooting super heavy slugs in the 810-850fps range this thing will do it. Considering it got a undersized (.300) 75gr boat tail doing 810 or 820 fps already I think a .303 is gonna do great.

My goal for this gun primarily is to shoot coyotes at night or shoot squirrels and rabbits out to 200y so the Zulus will stay on it for now. But with good glass and a heavy boattail this is a 300y gun, easy.

Speaking of which I also put new glass on the barra. Nothing special just a monstrum 6-24x50… mostly I wanted a mil reticle and good magnification. Since I have the ballistics for the barra so dialed in I wanna start dialing for elevation and extend the range a bit. With the new plenum it will be around 75fpe so I wanna push her out to 150y.

Turns out shooting long range with air rifles is really fun and when it works it feels like I’ve really “done something.” I’m never gonna take sloppy shots at range just to say I landed at ___ yards. No I wanna hit a squirrel at 150y with a 34-37gr slug and know when I walk over there that it’s not gonna be more than 5 feet away from when I shot it.

Also I was just reminded that no matter how much I love the EQ, and I do… it’s gonna take a lot to replace the barra in my heart haha. It’s just a joy to shoot, even if the trigger is garbage 😂😂😂

I just shot my Barra and it is a joy to shoot, especially on the tripod, just seconds to setup and 98% of what a bench can do for me, ...love it!

My TalonP has been laying on the backseat of my truck for a while now. I will put rain gear or jackets over it, some times groceries, basically anything and everything. My Barra case has been on it for a while too. It's not in a case either, just another tool. I decided to check zero on it, and first shot on a 2" target at 65y was dead nuts. I do love how solid this gun is built. I don't think that it is even possible to casually knock it off zero. It would probably take falling out of my truck driving down the road to screw it up. The perfect no nonsense, no worries, truck gun.

I shot both my TalonP and 250z today. The 250z didn’t seem keen on the AEA .22 25.3gr pellets at 860fps.
I did not shoot many pellets out of mine, but the AEA 21.9gr did shoot one hole groups at 53y. They would throw an occasional flyer though. Try the ZAN .217 23gr slugs, if you haven't yet, I know you said you tried the JSB KO 20.83gr slugs.

Since the the EQ is really loving the .303 and .306 Varmintknockers I couldn’t resist a chance to go knock on some varmints doors….scope cam footage will be up on my insta & YouTube later for those interested.

62gr Varmintknockers .306
920fps
86 yards.

This week I have a couple spots where I’m gonna try some more long range stuff. I had 100 total 303/.306 slugs total to play with this weekend before the next deliveries tomorrow. So I haven’t sat down and grouped much. But just plinking around today I stacked 3 of these slugs at 93y.. if it was paper they would have same holed… I love my barra but it’s never done that. I’m sure that the BCs of a 31gr vs a 62gr has a lot to do with that….either way I’m not complaining.

Guys, what have you found, if anything, slug wise for the TalonP? I've just been shooting the JTS 25' pellets so far. It does like those, but if it will do slugs nicely, I would rather use those for the bigger critters!

Finished cleaning the last of my Hybrid slugs. I absolutely despise the packaging so I repurposed an earpiece case....should work nice! Cleaning them took so long i almost hope my guns hate them so I won't be tempted to buy them again😆 Was mighty windy today otherwise I woulda tested em at 50Y.

Ran about 200 AEA Center Punch 22 pellets through my Barra 250z rifle just target shooting and installed new Discovery 34mm scope rings on it as it wouldn't clamp down right with the ones that came with it. Then shot about 6 mags of the same brand of ammo in my Gauntlet SL 25 rifle. I'd forgotten how heavy it was compared to the Barra!
