Pyramyd has announced its 2024 Top Air Rifles. This is a list of the ten best-selling air rifles sold by the company throughout last year. Thanks to the company for making this information available!

As always, Pyramyd’s year-end best-seller lists are a fascinating peek into the sales of the “World’s biggest airgun dealer”. When compared to previous years, they’re also a guide to the changes that are happening in the airgun industry – that’s why we track them with great interest every year in HAM.

In fact, five out of the top six best-sellers are HAM Gold Award winners too!

First we’ll take a look at the list. Then we’ll move-on to discuss what seems to be happening in the online airgun market….

2024 Top Air Rifles – Winners And Losers

Congratulations are obviously due to Umarex for the Notos! This great little gun was the best-selling air rifle of 2024.

In fact, Umarex placed twice in the Top Ten, as did Air Venturi. Congratulations to both companies!

The Umarex Gauntlet has appeared in Pyramyd’s Top Ten list every year since it was introduced in 2017. That makes it a clear long-term winner for the Arkansas-based company.

The Air Venturi Avenger has also been high in the list every year since it was introduced in 2021. It’s making a good play for long-term favorite status, too.

So now we know the winners, but which products were losers?

Probably the biggest loser was the Benjamin Marauder. This has been in Pyramyd’s Top Ten list for as long as I’ve been keeping track – that’s since 2015. The Marauder has had a great run, but it looks as if that’s now over.

Notable brands that have appeared prominently in past “top selling lists”, but which do not appear here are FX and AirForce Airguns. In both cases, that means it’s two years out of the Top Ten. Will they make it back in 2025?

2024 Top Air Rifles – Market Trends

Let’s remind ourselves that the airgun market has become increasingly fractured between the airguns that are still being sold in big box retail stores and those from online specialist dealers like Pyramyd.

The .177 caliber, Zillion FPS, single shot break barrel air rifle still dominates in the big box retail world. However, if you walk-in to most any big box store, you’ll see that the number of air rifles they display is steadily declining.

Scenes like this may, sadly, belong to the past…

I’ve Just Been To A Parallel Airgun Universe

But for Pyramyd’s online sales, the PCP reigns supreme! In 2025, eight out of the top 10 air rifles were PCPs. Only the Red Ryder and the Hatsan 95 remained to represent spring/piston guns.

And – unlike previous years – no multi-pump pneumatics, or CO2-powered guns made the list. Is this the sunset for these power plants? We’ll find out for sure next year, I guess.

Let’s look at the past three years of Pyramyd’s best-selling air rifles.

Interesting to see the move away from bb gun heavy list to only one bb gun remains in all its iconic power. I would be curious to see how top 10 looks like with other retailers like AoA, maybe they will join the trend for us.

One could also argue Gamo has 3 in top ten this year, since they own daisy and Crosman.

The reason why the Gauntlet is still on the list and the Marauder isn't, is that Umarex, wisely, has been improving the Gauntlet has the years go by, to what people asked for. There is a lesson to be learned here.

I was looking at it by brand name. But - to take your approach - then Air Venturi should also have three spots in the top 10 as Seneca is also an A/V brand.

Crosman/Benjamin are well aware that many of us would like an updated Marauder. The rear cocking bolt has got to phase out. I don't care what gun it's on. If it's new, that needs to go Side bolts and levers have been around too long for that to still be a thing on a new air rife. Among other things, that platform needs an update. Then they let the Cayman phase out. I can't understand how these moves benefit the company. Was that Kral Arms/Benjamin collab negotiated on poor terms or something?

The company is never going to get better if it doesn't get bought by an individual that keeps it private and does what's best for itself and not quarterly profits for the investors. That's not going to happen, unless I win the lottery.

I have gotten to know a few of the employees there that come to EBR. They are great people and always have been amazing ambassadors for their brand and the sport at large. They reassured me this year that they were not going anywhere, and perhaps that is true, but I guess my sadness stems from the loss of a once TOP place in the market to nearly never mentioned. I hope that changes and that the new Daisy acquisition will work out for the best.

The original owner, and the people that worked for the airgun company, never were the problem. It was the holding company and venture capitalist that don't give a hoot about what they manage that always screws things up. jmo

They give a hoot .. it's that cheaper better product . Once that's gone from wringing out the last cent posable then it's sold to the next one that might find another dollar in it .. if not it's sold off . Sometimes the companies assets and equipment is more value sold off then the company running . / It's worth more closed and liquidated

It's worth building back, better. I hope they do. Perhaps Daisy will restructure it better than ever, which is what I hope.

Also I may add...companies are composed of individuals ultimately. If you invest in a company, you care more than anyone that it succeeds since it is your money tied up in it. Yes profit matters. Of course. We all have families to feed. I am sure that a good CEO, perhaps the one at Daisy, may understand market demands better.

I have watched holding companies take a number of products I love they buy the company one that is profitable but the make a offer and it sold they then farm everything off shore so its no longer that quality product I want ( notice I say I want and not something else don't read into what I say ).
often we end up with a product that in cheeper to produce the higher end product are dropped and the company is often run into the ground.
not always but most often from what I have seen holding companies make their money then move on. not always but offten.
assets and holding are liquidated to gain the last little bit the holding company can get.

them we hope someone who care aqiures what's left of the ashes and rebuilds the brand into what it once was.

history is littered with this deviation companies that are gone or exist in name only just a rebadge widget like all the rest.
all this not because the company wasn't profitable but because they where offered enough to sell and sell they did.
sell to a holding company that wrung them dry.
people build great amazing companies holding companies mostly destroy them.
that's what I have witnessed in life and seaminly contenue to witness.
I truly hope to see this change before I am gone.
I would love to see some of ou lost companies make a great comeback.

Could it be that competition is just getting better? Also, since big box is dying, is it also possible that the shooters themselves are opting for better equipment that is only available on line?

Of all these, nice to see the old school Red Ryder hanging around. People seem to dismiss these as cheap toys. I see them as keeping our sport alive. Young ones eyes are open and what could be a life long passion. Glad not all parents are too woke to buy them a bb gun
