Reducing cocking effort has been a high priority for quite awhile. The challenge has been to develop a system that will provide the same hammer energy while providing significant decrease in effort without a loss of efficiency by exciting air wasting hammer bounce. This new system not only achieves those goals but offers more tuning flexibility with available high and low rate springs . The low-rate spring is perfect for reduced power levels in 22 caliber ( 12, 16 and 18 gn. pellets) allowing a lower regulator setpoint and maintaining a very tight ES. The high-rate spring will allow higher power levels in 30 cal when using the new plenum extender.

These will be available from your favorite American Air Arms dealer and our website.

As if I could love my evols any more right?!?!

Tom has been very busy! There is a lot to think about here now. I am definitely going to not jump right away though. I LOVE the simple, tough design that I have right now. I am extremely happy with how it is shooting and I never thought for a second that cocking was all that hard. The bigger plenum choices efficiency will have to counter balance, and then some, for adding an extra part and O-Ring. I have a feeling that they will or Tom wouldn't have wasted his time on it. Still, I need to see some good numbers for me to mess with what is already working great. The same goes for the easy cocking hammer but I can definitely see the appeal for some. I think innovation and options are great and keep everyone interested but for me personally I think the original design is what I was looking for, the fewest best made parts of the best materials available to have less that can go wrong or out of adjustment. I will, of course, probably try everything. Like everybody else, I am addicted too, and it is fun to do so, but any problems with any of it and I will take dead simple reliable over cool and complex any day. I already have that with my Paradigm now, so all of this is gravy, I like gravy too. A great time to be an air gunner!

Well put Carl but with that said, everything Tom does is "overbuilt" I bet this system will put everyone else's to shame just like the build quality of his rifles. I can definitely see this being super beneficial while pigeon pesting with my mini.

I see the point of not needing it. I was shooting mine today from 80-110yds at pigeons and it performed flawlessly as always. Plenum for my mini, ehhh not needed as Tom mentioned also. Cocking wise it's not bad but if you can cut it by 40% or so why not? What I actually like alot is the detent aspect of it. Would make adjusting easier between say 2 tunes having a set number of clicks either way. I enjoyed that about my Edguns in the past so I'll welcome it. And honestly I'd just like to support Tom and the awesome guns he makes and the upgrades he's making for them and being backwards compatible is real nice. Necessary? No but a want? Sure!

Well, I don't disagree at all, as the long as the fewest, simplest parts models persist. The backwards compatibilty aspect of the parts is huge. I guess what I do repectfully disagree with is that these parts are an "upgrade." They serve a purpose different from the original that many might want but I don't see them as better. I see incrementalism in everything produced, and while some would say that's good if for the better, I think the better is the simplist, and trying to reduce parts, like Tom did originally when he designed the gun. That design philosophy is what originally sold me on this gun, hardly any parts, that didn't move, or go out of adjustment, minimal o-rings, and just tough dependability. I don't personally want to compromise any of that for easy adjustability or cocking, there are other brands for that and the aftermarket parts parade. I know it sounds like I am taking it to the extreme but I believe that you have to or you slowly end up back at what you were trying to get away from in the first place. JMO p.s. I like slingshots and recurve bows too!

Woah guys!! I think you’re heading into the extreme category here! This ain’t what I would see as “extra parts” that could break more than what’s in it now. It’s just a different design. Tom has put a lot of r&d into this setup, and if he’s bringing it to us, I’m confident he believes it will stand up to the expectations the rest of the rifle and brand gives us.
If this gives the same power, with less cocking effort, and the same longevity, then why have such a negative outlook for it? I know the rifle is simple, and easy to work on, but it’s not like he’s adding 12 orings, and making it more prone to failure! He just changed the design of the hammer system to be very similar to other hammer debounce devices that have been on the aftermarket for a decade now without issue.
A company without forward progress will not last in this ever changing sport. I use Air Arms as an example. Their rifles haven’t changed or evolved since their outcome. They are extremely well built and accurate rifles, but they’re underpowered by todays standards. This makes them less desirable than other brands in the same price category, so they end up selling less product. The ONLY thing keeping them afloat right now is the field target community. Tom is doing what is right for his company, and continuing to improve on his designs, as well as bringing new offerings to the sport. I commend him for doing so, and look forward to what our future with AAA holds!

You are both correct! The original system does have a lower part count and the parts are simple and very robust.

The new system is more complex, hammer has significant lightening as well a the spring guide. Bench and youth shooters will appreciate the new system; tinkerers too.

If you are going to field carry and hunt I'd probably sick with the old system but once a shoot a gun with the new system it will make it hard to go back :)

All I do with mine is pest and such and can't complain about it at all. I don't need to do anything to the gun as it has been exactly what I wanted. However there's the what if....maybe I'll love it even more lol

Tom. I have been chomping at the bit, waiting for the plenum extension to be released and I re-read this thread and realized I missed something. You said that the high spring rate will allow you to make use of the extra plenum capacity. So, with the original hammer system, what will I be missing out on if I don't get this new hammer system with the large plenum in a .30 Evol? Really curious if you have any numbers to share. Thanks!

Am I missing something or did the original rifles come with the detent on the adjuster nut? That looks new and is a great upgrade! Make for a solid lock up to ensure your adjustments don't move for some reason.

If this is going to be something moving forward....is this an upgrade that can be added to the older rifles?

I think what they have now is a set screw with a small piece of delrin. That or like weed whacker line. But the nut doesn't have the holes in the threads for them to detent into. At least the 2 I had didnt.
