New Omega Pocket Charger Battery HPA Compressor

13. HAM-Pocket-Charger copy.webp

The new Omega Pocket Charger is a tiny battery-powered HPA compressor that provides the capacity to fill bottle- and tube-equipped PCP air rifles and pistols.

The battery-powered design provides portability and the ability to top-off a PCP air rifle in the field, without the need to connect to a car, or other 12 Volt DC battery. In fact, the batteries are compatible with 18 Volt Makita tool batteries that are used for many power tools.

The Pocket Charger is supplied complete with one 18 Volt battery and an appropriate charger that connects to a 100 Volt mains supply.

With a weight of 16 Lbs, including the battery, the air-cooled Omega Pocket Charger is light by HPA compressor standards. At an approximate size of 10 x 5 x 10 Inches, it’s also very compact.

Another major attraction is the low price. It’s just $339.99 at Airguns of Arizona.

The maximum output pressure is 4,500 PSI. So it’s capable of attaining the maximum fill pressure of pretty-well any PCP air rifle in the market today.

Airguns of Arizona says that every Omega compressor is fully tested and prepped before delivery to the customer. That, plus a 12-month warranty and AoA’s support, gives security to the purchaser.

Of course, with an HPA compressor at this price, there are bound to be some limitations. Primarily these relate to the lack of automatic controls. But this may not be a big issue for many users.

The Omega Pocket Charger has a manual shutoff and manual moisture bleed. So you’ll have to pay attention to these things yourself. However, given the majority use of this type of compressor is topping-up part-filled airguns, that’s unlikely to be an issue as the run times will be quite short.

Ease of transportation is enhanced by the provision of a carrying handle and the Pocket Charger’s connecting hose terminates in a female “Foster” quick disconnect.

I have had the GX version with 2 batteries for about 1-1/2 years and its still going strong. It's really nice to take along and with the 2 batteries will run up to an hour charging you and your friends guns. I got the 110v to 18 volt adapter that hooks up with a slide in adapter in one of the battery slots so I can use it the house and not wear out the batteries as well. So I've had great luck with it so far!

I have this version and the GX version. The difference is the support you receive if needed after the sale. Omega I can text Todd while GX I can email but it’s in Chineglish. Excellent compressor. Perfect for a trip to the range or just a quick top off at home. Get some Amazon cheap Makita spare batteries you’re set for a day. I own 3 omegas and 2 GX compressors all are bulletproof.

Based on some rough calculations, probably around 8 mins I'd say. My Evol goes from 160 back up to 275 bar in the 3ish minute range. Thats 250cc
Yeah I’d say that sounds about right. I personally don’t like filling large tanks with these small compressors. I feel like it builds up too much moisture (that’s just me) I prefer filling large tanks from my CF bottle. Just personal preference

While not currently in the market & generally not a fan of the small air cooled compressors, I do see some real potential for this assuming quality materials & assembly. Seems well thought out. Also encouraging to hear the good reports based on a similar (perhaps just different branding) unit.

Couple questions out of curiosity:
- Is the hose equipped with a one-way valve? Wondering if the bleed can be opened during a run to vent moisture, without the risk of sending pressure from the gun back into the compressor.
- Does it have a "reservoir", for lack of a better term, to collect bulk moisture until it's bled? Looks like it does based on the photos.

During-the-fill bleeds would go a long way towards keeping moisture out of the gun during longer fills, without extra filtration.

There’s no compressor out there with a one way valve that I’m aware of. This particular one is a gun fill unit so the gun has a check valve. But that being said I do use a one way adapter when filling large tanks with my Omega Air Charger that way I don’t have to pressure match.

moisture is a big concern for me!!
my budy got a umerex that run long enough for one fill then grabed a gx ( i think off amazon ) and he told me the otherday he is seeing moisture in his gun. i told him to track down a filter to call AoA but he most likely wont?

Yeah the only guns I use to fill the GX with are guns with tanks 200 ccs or less where it’s only running 2 minutes or less

Like Mike said short running times are the best practice using these little miracle machines.
Our maximum run timers a couple of 300cc bottled guns that we're only topping off so five minutes max.
Also using an inline filter element which does slow filling somewhat, but one can never be too careful.

Something else to note that you’ll learn about these when you have one is that there’s no way to keep just the cooling fans running after a fill to cool it down for several minutes. Once the off switch is pushed the fans and pump stops. For example on my GX cs2 (the plug in one) the cooling fans start when unit is plugged to power even when pump isn’t running. I like to always keep the cooling fan on after a fill for several minutes because there will be a spike in heat. The battery version doesn’t offer this feature which is ok but imo I don’t think you can fill 700cc tanks to 300 bar without some kind of an external fan to cool it down when unit is off. Maybe just have a separate fan pointing at it. This may be a non issue but as a tech(commercial kitchen equipment, and x motorcycle tech) it gets me thinking
