Zero is Zero with cheap pelletts vs expensive pellets, Your thoughts?

I recently zeroed my HW30 at 30yds using 7.3gr Crosman pellets. Compared to JSB pellets & H&N they are relatively inexpensive. I felt good about it but decided to move up in quality to the H@N Barracuda 10.66 gr.The 1st and 2nd shots were 1.5 inches below the bullseye with the H&N. So, I decided to shoot a Crosman 7.3 gr pellet. It was dead center bullseye. Now, I realize the H&N is a heavier pellet but I only shoot targets so why go to the extra expense of buying the more expensive pellet when the cheaper Crosman will do the same thing. I would appreciate your input.

Yip, id stick with the cheaper crosmans for sure. Where the heavies do better is tighter groups at farther distances with less wind push. My TX groups tightest with H&N or Jsb 10gr ammo but man, o man, you better know holdovers if you want to hit anything with em. I shoot 10-50Y with mine so i prefer sliiightly less accurate, but flatter shooting 8-8.7gr ammo. Crosmans just can't hold a candle to the other 2 regardless of distance, if they were as accurate I'd go with the Crosmans.

I understand, but I have been through the ringer getting this gun broke in and shooting good. I use the Baracuddas in mt HW110, a completely different animal. But, that being said, spinning targets and punching holes in paper at a lesser cost appeals to me.

I always go with the cheapest pellet to teach how to shoot at extreme close range. When you can offer 50 shots for a buck, you can afford to donate to a lot of kids. The pellet needs to achieve about 600FPS muzzle to be accurate (+/- 1/8") from 0-15 yards. It does not require much power to punch paper or move a reactionary target. Power is needed to transfer energy to a target and projectile weight is needed to fight wind effect at distance. Extreme accuracy at close range uses the same disciplines as long range. I try to establish the new shooter's confidence quickly in their skills and the equipment they use. Within 5 shots, kids are hitting 2" plastic figures. After that, our targets are 1/4" beads on tooth picks and .43 caliber paintballs. Kids really like to see them splat. Aim Small, Miss Small!

It all comes down to barrel fit and bc. This is why some pellets come in slightly different diameters. Also if your happy with 1/2” groups at 30 then your happy. But take that 1/2” group to 70 and suddenly its much larger. All depends on what your looking for, and barrel fit and bc
