Zan Hyper Line slugs are now available for pre-order at Airgun Depot. The availability date is estimated to be May 26, 2025.

Hard Air Magazine readers first learned about Hyper Line slugs in our report from the 2025 IWA OutdoorClassics exhibition in Germany. They stand out for their bright, fluorescent yellow coating.

ZAN Hyper Line Slugs

Zan explained to HAM that these slugs are coated with a cutting-edge anti-friction coating. Given the extensive contact area between airgun slugs and the barrel, this anti-friction treatment can lead to an appreciable increase in Muzzle Velocity, just through a reduction in friction!

Benefits for Zan’s new process are – he tells me – a reduction in barrel leading, like there’s none! That will be a big advantage for many slug shooters who find barrel leading degrades accuracy rapidly. Plus, they reduce the risks from lead handling as there’s no lead touching your fingers.

And there’s yet another benefit. The bright fluorescent coating also extends to the base. This means – Zan tells me – that it’s possible to observe the passage of the slug downrange through a scope, somewhat in the manner of a tracer bullet. That can make it easier to observe and improve shot placement on the target.

ZAN Hyper Line Slugs

Zan Hyper Line slugs are being manufactured in a wide range of calibers that matches many of the standard lead Zan slugs. These include the following:

.177 caliber: 10, 13 and 16 Grain.

.217 and .218 calibers: 20, 23, 30.5, 33, 36 and 40 Grain.

.250 caliber: 33, 37, 41 and 45 calibers.

.30 caliber: 59 and 68 Grain.

.357 caliber: 100 and 125 Grain.

In addition, Zan’s ELR slugs are also available in Hyper Line versions in both .22 and .25 calibers.

I'm going to get all grumpy old man for a second....
They say its safer than lead... but what is it?

What are they coated with exactly? how safe is that stuff? MSDS?
If its something like HBN (hex-boron-nitride) - well known, used in cosmetics a lot for a long time - i'd consider it very safe.

But what if its some sort of plastic/fluoro polymer?
As it moves down the barrel are there lots of little flecks of this stuff breaking off & being spread in the blast?
Are you inhaling loads of micro plasticy type stuff?

(emailed Zan about the thread - see what they say)

ok WOW.... So i got a response within an our or so on a weekend from Zan!

The coating is FOOD SAFE & can be used on products for kids & that come into contact with food!!!
Here's some slugs that have been shot & hit stuff... coating intact!

Exceptional focus on products IMO

What did they shoot these thru a smooth bore? I see no rifling marks and they only glanced a target?

I thought the exact same thing. Those were definitely not shot through an airgun....?
Zan has obviously tested these plenty to get to this point or they never would have made it this far....
But seriously run one of them through an airgun and smack steel @ 50Y and then let's see how the coating holds up! 🤩

"10,000 years from now a guy is eating lead and plastic to re-create the 'Anthropocene Diet", eaten by his ancestors who built the Bass Pro Pyramids and the underwater City of Miami".
