Why do we keep spending more?

I started out with the very basics in pcps. Gamo .22 and then the .22 Classic. Loved em both. Especially the classis. Then moved up to the Avenger .25, then the Condor, Condor SS, TalonP., the 3 Pinty examples, then my akela, and a few more lower priced dumplings. Swearing to myself I only want 1 more, but it gotta be at least a .30 caliber, kinda got heart set on the Ma cavity Ma2, unless i do a multi trade for some other 30 ish caliber. Damn, guys, one of two of y'all gonna have to give a class in air rifle repair! I swear. Lol, know I can't do much other than clean lube and shoot. I'm good at that still off one of my tripods! So I have learning potential anyway. So I can still learn anyway!

I took an Airforce TalonSS .22 I paid $100 for and proceeded to discover all the really interesting upgrades available for the Airforce Utility Platform. Around $600 later I had increased the value of that $100 TalonSS to at least $350.

Then I did it two more times...
Wow! You got a great deal on the Airforce rifle. Someone seemed pretty desperate to sell it so cheap! Congrats on that brother.

It was old, early 2000 .22 Talon SS, and the valve orings were shot. Estate sale, It was his Dad's and he knew nothing about pellet guns. I asked how much he said $150, I pulled out a C-note he said yes.

Ordered a high flow valve and CF bottle on AliExpress. Heavy hammer and spring on Trajectron. Huben Power Cricket Max-ATH from Huben. 18" barrel from Utah Airguns.

First shot at 2400psi was supersonic. 1800psi and 875FPS is where it sits.

Most of my used guns come from Gunbroker.com. I peruse the auctions and drop low ball bids on guns of interest. On occasion that low ball bid holds up. Haven't seen much of interest of late. Just as well i have far too many guns now anyway.

Most of the non-auction sales there are just full price or even more

For myself the gun is it, don’t want to add doodads. Just scope it, add a moderator and go shoot. Also having realistic expectations of what you as the individual wants out of an airgun helps much. For me the advantage of simply shooting in my backyard anytime I want outweigh the negatives. My experience with PCPs has all been good excepting for my first HPA compressor and a Reximex RP pistol. That said, I would never spend as much, or more in goodies that cost more than the actual gun…
That^^^^^^ Me either. My PCPs are/were top shelf. About the only add on were moderators. I did buy a bag rider for the Delta Wolf which I use on the ghost as well. Finding the balance is key.

One of those rare moments of being at the right place at the right time! So cool.

I didn't like AirForce guns when I bought it. Single shot, kinda ugly, bottle in the back.

Then I started fixing it up and piece by piece it turned i to a fun project and the single shot was not a problem. Now I recommend them all the time. They are virtually indestructible and always hit what you are aiming at.

"If you hit what you are aiming at, everything after that is optional"

I know right? And only four to six orings to worry about in the rifle to boot! Easy to work on too.

Ok,
Why do spend as much or more for upgrades than the gun?
Case in point.
I paid under $450 for my Zelos new.
But have bought two types of moderators, bipod, bottle adapter, extra filter for the pump.
Then of course a different scope mount, even though I already had one that would work.
Now I'll be ordering another set if rings, a 500cc bottle, a bottle wrap with the rail. Lots more different pellets to try, even though I already have plenty that shoot Awesome.
Plus I bought a Crosman 2240 and Marauder grip frame and a few other assorted items.
And I'm already looking at maybe another rifle.
You all did this to me!
Where does all it end?
HELP!
I think I need a hug.

Hylander, your post gave me a good laugh because every one of us has walked that same path. You start with a rifle you’re perfectly happy with, and before long you’ve added moderators, bottles, mounts, filters, grips, pellets, and somehow a whole extra gun sneaks into the house. It’s funny how the ‘cheap’ rifle ends up being the least expensive part of the whole setup. This hobby has a way of pulling us in deeper than we expect, and half the fun is tinkering and trying new things. You’re definitely not alone — we’ve all been there. And about that hug… I’m old‑school, sorry. LOL

Was at the rat range a while back and one of the farm hands asked “how much” …🤔😮🤥😑
I was afraid to tell him in case my cell phone was listening and decided to blackmail me to hide it from my wife!
