What'cha doing air gun related today?

Had an absolute blast today, shot my S510 and then my Ghost, refilled both with the compressor and got right back out, punched paper, bagged 9 birds, and did some random slug expansion testing. Saw my neighbor out and ran over to see if I could blast some birds off his farm wagons, the starling have hatched and the racket they are making is INSANE. His only request was not to get any lead in the cow feed. Still tuning my Ghost but I hit absolutely everything I aimed at today! Shots from 30 to 75 yards. Neither of my pcps (or me?😅) are pellet on pellet comp guns, but after getting all these birds I can't ask for more!

Here's the slugs I was testing for expansion. 20Y into water jugs. NSA vs Gen 1&2 H&N vs JSB vs Javelin vs Zan vs Hades Monster pellets. If you know your Lead, you'll know which slug is which. All are 23gr minus the Jsb ammo which are both 25gr. All shot same power settings, minus Jsbs which were a bit higher to compensate for the extra mass. The H+N did poor as did the Hard lead Nsa. The Jsb surprised me by doing terrible. The Zans are absolutely gorgeous and expanded decently. Winner by a LONG shot was the patriot Javelins. If you have never pested with these....you need to try em! Massive expansion with the deep hollow point and soft lead. Again the heavy Hades did poorly.

That’s so freaking awesome! Out there getting it done!

Between heat and wind just about all i did was set up a card at 10m and adjust the R9's hinge bolt. It was a exciting 10-20 shots . Pretty much moring or afternoon shooting been a bust . So back in the AC sipping tea and trolling forums and gun shopping for a deal that aint there..lol
I have 22 yds in my back yard. I shot a Rimfire Benchrest target for the first time yesterday with my Avenger 22 with a bad rest, scored 231 5X. I tried today with a better rest and score 236 7X, need more practice .

This all started because I put a Dream Valve on my .22 Talon with a 19 inch barrel.
Had the regulator set at 200 bar and got 1100FPS and 68FPE

So I decided to figure out the optimal plenum volume.
What I did was calculate the barrel volume and then tried 25CC, 50CC, 125CC and 250CC plenums.
Huben Power Dream Valve Universal: 25CC Plenum
Huben Power Cricket Max-ATH: 50CC Plenum
Shan Bao 20CM 300psi Tube and regulator 1/2 of a Huben: 125CC Plenum
Shan Bao 40CM 300psi Tube and regulator 1/2 of a Huben: 250CC Plenum

This was with AirForce .25 Condor and Talon with 24 inch barrels.
(.125*.125)*3.14*24= 19.31CC
The objective was to find at what point adding more plenum volume reached diminishing returns.
3x or 4x barrel volume seems to be optimal
Sufficient plenum and air path (which the AirForce platform provides) you can accelerate the pellet the length of the barrel.
The 50CC was good little short of 3x
The 125CC pretty much maxed the FPE gains at 6x
The 250CC was virtually identical to the 125CC

Bob Sterne was working with a conventional Poppet style rifle.
Way too many variables in the air path to do anything other than find what a specific rifle can add via plenum
Hammer spring
Hammer weight
Poppet spring
Transfer Port
Poppet Dwell
Air pressure
Plenum port
Right angle air flow changes

I'm sure there are probably others but change any one of those and you change the volume of air through the Poppet. So optimizing the plenum is custom for each poppet rifle.

The Condor firing H&N 30gr Barracuda was getting 880FPS ate 1750psi with the 125CC plenum
Same gun and the 25CC plenum required ~2000psi.
Cranking the regulator to 200bar with the 125CC and the pellet went supersonic.
You can really lower the regulator pressure with a well optimized plenum.
Or you can get some bit time FPE

Unfortunately the Shan Bao tubes are on AliExpress are either out of stock (40CM), with the wrong style regulator (40CM) of big jump in price (20CM). The other issue there is connecting up those tubes to a standard air rifle.
To do that gets a tad heavy and unwieldy. Need a U adapter.

Niksan Ozark .25, Shan Bao 40CM tube, Huben Regulator, Huben U adapter and a 1.6L bottle.
Note the droop on the tube

Wow, that's some extreme modifications in the photo! Interesting.

Only one I had with fill probe was my Notos, I been leaving the probe in my compressor fitting so I wouldn't misplace it. Always taking it out, then replacing after airing up whatever I had been shooting. Then came the P-Pup and it's probe. Now the Akela, and the ELF-W. If they will all stay tight in place. That's what I will do. It's kinda APITA putting them back in the factory box's, like I do spare mags, between fill ups.
I know man, now i have five guns that use different fill probes. Foster fittings should be on all rifles for sure!

Dodging storms to shoot all I can the last few days. Pinty P-Rifle and P-Pup, Avenger, red ryder, Vectis, DSX-45, 1322, 397, 362, Strike Point. Moderator on my Avenger fell apart today though... have to reach out and ask buckrail about it. Here's a couple shootout target results.

I have had buckrail mods fall apart and Chris or Terry with just an email will send you a new one. No questions asked! My last one that fell apart was a 30 caliber. Great guys to deal with!

Aint that the truth! Ohhh no fill probe on the Akela, thank goodness! Lol. With the grown herd of them, I have resorted to placing the fill probes back in the factory box's, in the baggies of gaskets that came with each rifle. Better safe than sorry. Cause I know if I don't I will sure lose one or more of them.
