I have 3 30 cal rifles, Black Wolf chassis with a Sub MOA barrel, a ghost factory 23 inch polished barrel, and the Sonoran….If you told me I could only have 1 it would be the Sonoran.I'm considering buying another .30 cal PCP. I already have an FX M3 that I use for 100 yd BR competiton, but want one without all the heavy extra hardware. I'm considering"
Brockock Sonoran
RAW HM1000x Mini LRT
Cricket Tactical
What would you choose or is there a better choice? I'm leaning toward the Brocock instead of any tactical because there are fewer protrusions.
I concur (not that it matters lol): the only downsides to the Sonoran is the power curve for heavier pellets/ slugs and the stock for Benchrest. The stock is a minor issue, with workarounds and a non-issue if you’re not buying it for Benchrest. The power is fine for 45gr and 50gr up to about 900fps like Pesty states. My Sonoran likes 850-890fps with 45gr pellets and so again not an issue for me. Mine also really likes AEA 52.2gr slugs and can shoot them MOA at 100yds with the available power. I wanted to try the 66gr pellets and couldn’t because of the power. Now that I have a Panthera MKII that can, I see that I wasn’t missing anything LOL. It’s definitely a solid air rifle. I would like to try a BW, but that’s a non-contender in the $2k category. The 1:26 barrel seems to be a winner for .30 versatility.I have 3 30 cal rifles, Black Wolf chassis with a Sub MOA barrel, a ghost factory 23 inch polished barrel, and the Sonoran….If you told me I could only have 1 it would be the Sonoran.
BW is the most comfortable off the bench. Too heavy for hunting or EFT.
Ghost OK off the bench, Heavy for hunting and good for EFT.
Sonoran OK off the bench, but a friend made a bag rider for me, that I am testing, which made the Sonoran much better off the bench, great for hunting and good/great for EFT…..Down side in my eyes, not enough “Balls” to get the 50 grain pellets into 890-900 FPS.

If I purchased a 30 caliber I would put it up against my best (and only lol) hundred yard gun, my Taipan. Shoot a 5 x 5 challenge card each in succession repeating as necessary and compare. What else could I do?Just a question for all here asking about 30 cal barrels accuracy. If you were to get any 30 cal rifle how would you judge its accuracy? Would you shoot at 100 on a breezy day and hold dead ctr and expect to drill the 10 ring 5 for 5 ? Would you shoot at 50 in same conditions and expect the same? Just how would you judge having a good or bad barrel for 100 yd bench?
Well that was the purpose of the question just what could be done. Every little thing affects accuracy at 100. All pellets must weigh exactly the same, the wind must be exactly the same better yet non existent, the gun itself should be capable of almost 0 sd, and the shooter must execute with perfection. 100 yd pellet accuracy is tough. If I purchased a 30 caliber I would put it up against my best (and only lol) hundred yard gun, my Taipan. Shoot a 5 x 5 challenge card each in succession repeating as necessary and compare. What else could I do?
That’s a pretty good and straightforward benchmark for 100yd benchrest accuracy. In some ways that is what I started doing with my practice target stencil. It gives me nine circles that only contain the standard 100yd 9, 10 and X rings. Because nothing below a 9 is of value LOL. I wasn’t thinking of it as a benchmark, just a practice aid. This is now my 100yd benchmark, as it’s more applicable than MOA. I can make it a printable paper target. The 9-ring is 1.250" in diameter. You want to be able to hold the 9-ring for all 25 shots.
If you hit all 9s you have a 225. The hope is that you can hit a few 10s as you go to bring your score up into the low 230s.

This is good but still doesn’t tell the full story cause of the main battle-wind! And how well you read it. I typically shoot 5 shots at 5 targets that are 10 and 9 ring and am always holding for wind.I would buy a few full size targets to do some practice rounds. I have a few from RX Targets. If I could get some days above 50 here in NY and I don't have kids sports to attend, I would get out and do some testing on them.
If you have never competed, set a timer and run through a full course of fire. Tape over your pellet hole and repeat! Then use each of the 25 scorable targets and put 25 rounds into them to see how consistent your setup is.

You are spot on about the wind! It would be good to practice on calm and windy days! This is good but still doesn’t tell the full story cause of the main battle-wind! And how well you read it. I typically shoot 5 shots at 5 targets that are 10 and 9 ring and am always holding for wind.
We met at Rochester gp year before last didn’t we?You are spot on about the wind! It would be good to practice on calm and windy days!
I was "thrown" into my first EBR with little time to prep. I had never shot a card until my qualifying round. I barely had a rifle sighted in for 100 when we left NY for AZ. It was still a ton of fun and we learned a lot. I just wanted to share some of what I didn't do that wish that I had.
I don't practice enough and I rarely practice in the wind. That is a big mistake on my part! Go out on windy days!
I am looking forward to meeting a bunch of you at the match!
