With the release of the HPS 30 Mini I am wondering if there is any information out there on tuning the new platform? I do recall a post from Tom a while back which mentioned a few basics, but it would be nice to have a confirmed process.

There appear to be three external adjustments and I'd like to know how best to manage them for a tune:
  • Regulator Pressure
  • Valve Dwell
  • Hammer Spring
I am thinking that it will be something like the Mora before the air assisted valve came along, but I'd like Tom or someone knowledgable to confirm the process:
  1. Set the regulator to pressure.
  2. Set the dwell valve to fully open.
  3. Tune the hammer spring to just open the valve and then go half turn further.
  4. Adjust the dwell (for minor adjustments) for your speed. (Larger fps increments would be done by raising or lowering the regulator pressure)

Hammer is not adjusted unless you are tuning for very low power. Factory setting is 5 clicks back from its full limit (CC from rear increases the hammer strike.

Regulator is the gross power adjustment. Upper limit is ~3k CC for increase. Adjuster knob has a hard stop ~160 degrees each direction from center. This is to prevent over adjustment. DO NOT reduce regulator pressure unless the reservoir is below the set point.

Dwell. increase CW (valve stays open longer). If increasing the dwell will not increase the power further you have reached the limit for that regulator pressure. The higher the reg pressure the more range the dwell will have.

Mini is only 95cc of air. Once off the regulator there is very little air left. If you keep shooting it will eventually dump all air through the barrel and leave the valve open.

If you have dumped all your air and air is escaping out of the muzzle when filling DO NOT add more air flow from the tank; this will not close the valve. Use the provided chamber plug. Insert the chamber plug fully in the breech and start filling slowly, the valve will snap shut and you can fill normally.

This is a bit old but it will get updated as we go.

Adjusting the Dwell does NOT require degassing. There is only pressure in the dwell circuit during the shot cycle.
Tom, I was instructed differently, but I did read the manual. I got it figured out all I have to say is this rifle is amazing, I can’t wait till I get my second and third one. These will be rifles passed down to my two sons with this kind of build the quality.
