The annual JROTC Three-Position Postal Air Rifle Championship is a 6,000 competitor airgun event! And now the 2025-2026 results are in…
The competition was facilitated by the Civilian Marksmanship Program (CMP), running from September to December, 2025.
The JROTC Postal Championship is a three-position competition fired with .177 caliber air rifles at 10 meters range. High school students from across the country shoot in sporter and precision air rifle categories using official targets at their home ranges. These targets are returned to the CMP Headquarters for scoring.
Teams and individuals are ranked against one another, with top competitors moving on to the JROTC Service Championships – set to be held in Utah, Alabama and Ohio in February 2026.
This 6,000 competitor airgun event is – without doubt – the largest airgun competition in the USA. So you know that the winners must be really, really good shots!
Finishing as the overall sporter competitor in the JROTC Postals was Kyley Lusby, 17, of Pascagoula High School, MS, with a score of 287-14X. Most sporter competitors use Crosman Challenger air rifles.
Leading precision competitor was Mataya Turner, 18, of Granbury High School, TX, with an outstanding score of 299-26X. Yes, that’s 299 out of a possible 300 score, with no less than 26 through the “X” ring. And don’t forget that one third of the shots are taken kneeling and another one third standing! WOW!!!
Precision competitors are able to use any (more expensive) type of air rifles, wear specialist shooting clothing, etc.
