Others Sub-MOA Barrels

Just to be clear I’m only having these wild flyers with my own swaged slugs using the Corbin .300 dies. Pellets and AEA 52.2gr slugs do very good. I weigh my cores before swaging and weigh and sort the slugs down to .05gr with the assumption that my cheap scales are probably really only accurate to .1gr at best. When they are swaged they mic at exactly .300”. Swaged to the same exact weight as the AEA slugs using a dish base or a cup base similar to the AEA, my slugs are 30fps slower. Slugging my Sub-MOA barrel indicates a .299” bore. I started resizing them to .298” and my slugs are now 3-5fps faster than the same weight AEA slugs. The dies have to be custom ordered for .299” and so I will order one. I only went with .298” because there were some available from a custom overrun. But, I believe that I can hear some blow by with .298”. Part of my problem is that I have 10-15mph winds almost daily, which makes testing difficult. My SD is pretty good with the Sonoran. The SD is usually between 1.7 and 2.5 with either slugs, unless I start playing with the hammer. Right now I’ve been shooting 45gr pellets at 150bar and I’d have to swage 44gr slugs to get any kind of velocity over 800fps lol.
Thats the biggest problem trying to determine best groups @ 100——wind! It doesn’t take much. As for the difference between aea slugs and yours the aea with the bands could definitely be the difference in harmonics i would think

In my opinion slugs are just a bit more sensitive to your hold on the gun too. Like the groups i shot with the drs the pellets just seemed easier to rattle off than the slugs if i slowed down a bit with the slugs they shot better

I agree I think the rings/bands are effective. I’m assuming the AEA slugs are cast and not swaged. I do enjoy the challenge of making something work. But, Elaine like the idea of me selling the swaging equipment and putting the funds towards my future BR rifle. Of course my thinking is no, I'm getting a BR rifle, I could apply the funds to a second new rifle though.

It is good to hear that rifle is that consistent. Sounds like part of the problem is that the lead is of a different makeup than the AEA, either harder or softer. As to the die set size being .298", you may be able to sand and polish the shank portion bigger, either through Corbin or on your own, and then buy the appropriate base punch ( to the new larger size). Base punches are fairly cheap to replace at $75.00 each.

My winds were maxing out at 23mph and changing direction constantly. I shot a lot more than these, but it wasn’t very productive due to the conditions. But, AEA slugs shoot reasonably well at 799fps. But, without a doubt in my opinion, the issue with my swaged slugs is the slug and not the gun. But, my slugs had a consistent SD of 1.7. I keep saying I’m going to put the slugs away and concentrate on the pellets lol. The last group was 26 shots with the AEA 52.2 slugs, 152bar 795fps, 15-22mph left to right crosswind. I disabled the last 4 shots as it had dropped off the regulator. A nice SD of 1.5. I’m going back to pellets for the time being. I need to try and get good enough to maybe enter an event lol. @Airgun-hobbyist - Where did you get a 15" .30 barrel to go on your Magnon? I have a Magnon and don't see where AAA offers the 15" barrel in .30, just 18 and 12 inches and they are strictly pellet twists (Which I use the light slugs on so not a problem.)
I bought the 18" barrel to get a bit more power out of the additional length.
