Weather was great, surprisingly, for this far south, this time of year. High of 91 on Friday and 88 on Saturday, but that amazing cottonwood tree shade made it feel much less. Lol, I just went down a rabbit hole while trying to find a measured wind speed. NWS website shows data for Guthrie, AZ when searching for Duncan. Google says Guthrie is a ghost town, about 23 miles from Duncan. Anyway....the weather station at Guthrie (closest I guess?) recorded some gusts as high as 50mph on Friday afternoon at 4pm. Which is pretty much when we were shooting silhouettes with 8-12fpe pistols.
Pistol Silhouettes
1/10 scale silhouettes at 15, 20, 25, and 30 yards. One extra chicken at each distance. Steve Q took the win here, putting in an impressive 39/40. Bobby, myself, and Franz were tied for 2nd with 37/40. Ties broken by shoot off - which was 5, 1/10 size chickens @ 30 yards. Bobby somehow got all 5 of those little bock bocks.
Steve Q - 39
Bobby C - 37 + 5/5
Cole R - 37 + 2/3
Franz D - 37 + 0/0
Larry F - 35
Rex J - 32
Tom H - 29
Rifle Silhouettes
1/5 scale silhouettes, 50, 60, 70, and 80 yards. 40 points possible here too. Wind was TOUGH. Dallin was a first time shooter with a borrowed gun in incredibly challenging winds, in the dark!
Cole R - 37
Rex J - 33
Jared K - 27
Steve Q - 25
Franz D - 25
Bobby C - 24
Brandon K - 23
Tom H - 21
Dallin - 4
Field Target
Typical course for this location-no gimmes.
Here are kill zone sizes and distances...
And how that works out to a Troyer Factor...
And the scoreboard and equipment list...
Rex and I had a shoot off to break the tie. We used one of those 7/16" targets, but scooted back another 18-20 yards. I ranged it as more than 35 but less than 40-didn't go any crazier than that for ranging since either would be within my scope zero. So, it was a Troyer of 80 (if 35 yards) to 91.4 (if 40 yards). The bystanders decided on best of three before any shoot off shots were fired. Rex hit his first one, I missed my first one. Rex missed his next two shots, I got my next two shots. TOUGH shoot off target for a TOUGH course. Wouldn't have it any other way.
Thank you to those who set and tore down the course, and to Tom for sharing his river bottom with us. And photo credit to Rex and Larry.
