Sightron SV 10x42 ED Binoculars

As HAM readers know, we occasionally cover interesting new optical devices as they can be ideal tools for hunting. So let’s take a look at these new Sightron SV 10×42 ED binoculars…

The company’s latest binoculars offer a wide field exceeding 70° of apparent field of view – a big benefit for glassing. To achieve this, Sightron utilizes a field flattener system to ensure excellent image quality from center to edge.

Phase-correction coating on the prism delivers a bright, high-contrast field of view, the company says. Objective lenses manufactured from special low-dispersion (ED) lenses provide crisp, clear, extremely sharp high-resolution images that are claimed to be free from chromatic aberration.

Sightron SV binoculars have lenses which are fully multi-layer coated on all surfaces. Again the company explains that this provides high light transmission and accurate color reproduction.

Judging from Hard Air Magazine’s experience with Sightron’s riflescopes, the above claims are very likely to be realized in hard, practical use.

The SV’s housing features a lightweight yet robust magnesium die-cast construction. They are nitrogen filled to prevent internal fogging.

Sightron says that the well-balanced design minimizes the perceived weight and benefits handling. An elastomer exterior provides easy handling and a secure grip, even in the most extreme conditions, they add.

There’s a center focus system featuring a large metal focus ring to enable quick and precise focusing adjustments, even when wearing gloves. The long eye relief design allows a wide field of view, even when wearing glasses. Twist-up rubber eyecups provide a comfortable fit against the eye for those not needing spectacles.

Finally, the fully waterproof construction ensures reliability during rain or near water.
