Secret Daystate Air Rifle Appears At Extreme Benchrest 2024

In our second report from Extreme Benchrest 2024, we spotted a previously-unseen, secret Daystate air rifle. It was being shot in the 75-Yard Extreme Benchrest Card One.

This new Daystate air rifle could actually be a BRK (formerly Brocock) prototype. Or it could actually be a forthcoming Daystate-branded model.

Nothing was being revealed and the gun was shot disguised with camouflage wrapping to confuse observers. EBR has been used once in the past for such a clandestine outing for a new Daystate or BRK model. That was in 2022. In fact, that gun turned-out to be the future BRK Ghost.

So, what can we say about this secret new airgun?

Well, we can make some comments based on what we saw. As follows…

Secret Daystate Air Rifle – 1

This is a long air rifle! It has a prominent, long, thin HPA tank, together with along forearm under the tank.

These characteristics would tend to indicate that this could be a dedicated benchrest air rifle. If so, that would be news as Daystate has not had a gun of this type before.

Secret Daystate Air Rifle – 2

It’s a full-length air rifle, not a bullpup. That could mean that it’s a replacement for the Daystate Wolverine, or possibly the Red Wolf, as they are among the older models in the company’s range.

There’s a strange triangular cutout in the stock on both sides above and ahead of the trigger, as you can see. What’s that for? Dunno!

There’s a “club like” end to the buttstock. This was covered by the camouflage tape. That makes one think that it has a Delta Wolf-type touchscreen there, and thus that it’s an electronically-controlled air rifle.

We can also see that the breech has a typical, high magazine position, common to many Daystate guns. There’s a side lever action, as we can see. So it’s not a semi-auto.

There’s a ambidextrous safety positioned directly above the trigger.

It seems to shoot! Chris looked very happy with the results!

The gun was in a very prototype state. It is a mechanical Red Wolf with what will be aluminum chassis and it felt great to hold. It will be good for everything from field target to bench. The trigger was super!!!! Now if they could go back and get parts for the Ghost that would be nice. Don't know what caliber was shooting on the line but hopefully things are rapid to get to market.

Hi new to the forum i am Rob from the UK, been looking at the forum for a while now some great post so thought it was time to join.

I am a big Daystate Red Wolf fan i only really shoot sub 12 foot .177 50 meter indoor bench rest, bi pod at front with rear rested on gloved hand, this style of shooting and range is really increasing in popularity in the UK.

At one of the shooting shows in the UK Daysates Tony Belas (Marketing Director i think) did tell me the next rifle they would be bringing out would be a replacement for the Wolverine, which this prototype looks to be. Looks to have a tuner of sone type at the back along with a route to adjust the hammer, probably won't make it to the production version. The new gauge spotted may we be on a regulator after the bottle, which some of us in the UK have fitted to our Red Wolfs with a good degree of success. The stock is probably made for Daystate by a UK company called PRS who are excellent and make fantastic air gun accessories. They have just started doing a new version of their Red Wolf chassis designed for a cylinder rather than bottle which this looks to be smaller gap to chassi better aesthetics. Some have already made this conversion from bottle to chassi, the like of Sub12 a UK air gun expert and tuner also others have done this i am sure Sub12 called his a Shed Wolf.

I did get quite excited when i first saw the pictures thinking it could be a bench rest version of the Delta Wolf which i would love.

@Blue148 Thanks for the information and - maybe - speculation. You make some very good points. Yes, the Wolverine is an older model than the Red Wolf, so the "mystery gun" being a replacement for that could well make sense. Other rumors, suggestions and speculation are welcomed...

Hello Rob - welcome to the forum

thank you for sharing your insights into the new Daystate. What caught my eye was the above the above statement. Would you be able to elaborate. I presume we are talking about a regulator between the bottle and the rifle. What is the positive effect you notice and does this apply to FAC as well as sub-12 rifles?

TIA

Yes it is an external reg between bottle and action. Mine Is for sub 12 set at 121 bar. Meaning the gun sees only 121 bar from full till it drops of the reg. Please see pics there is a noticeable improvement over the chrono. Would expect similar in FAC.

In my experience with the Red Wolf HP, while the inline reg may work well in low power guns such as sub12 versions, it doesn't really work that well in HP versions. I tried that about four years ago with the .22 RW HP that I have, and in order to function at normal power levels, it needs a plenum after the reg and prior to the breech block. I did try that with an Altaros plenum, but while it helped, it still didn't allow the gun to make the same power that it did without the reg (and plenum). So, I removed it when I realized it wasn't beneficial. One thing that is beneficial on current RW models is a HeliBoard. If the tuner takes the time and works with all (up to 20 instead of 3 on the factory board) setpoints, a very good ES and SD can be realized. In my .25 RW, I got the ES under 6 fps and SD under 2 fps for a 50-shot string...

@ Blue148 - thank you for the quick reply
@Centercut - once again the Helliboard rears it's head - between programming that and the Delta Wolf my indoor range time will be taken up

;)

This is very interesting. Did you need to change your programming? How big of plenum does this give you? Would the plenum be big enough to send heavier pellets faster then the sub 12 that you shoot? Say 25 cal 34gr at 950fps.

No need to alter DS programing, not sure of plenum size come with regulate I have two DS RW one with Huma reg other with Lane reg both work the same and we'll. No experience of higher power sorry.
