PCP Raising a “Standard” (JTS Airacuda)

More on the experiment side of things. I basically want to see what I can get out of it on a reasonable budget.

I purchased it for the purpose of dealing with an elusive raccoon and the purchase price was too good to resist.
So, I have surmised that you believe that each type of pest/quarry requires a different rifle. Interesting justification for armory expansion.😂🤣

For every job there is a tool, right? Speaking of which, so how goes the Deer hunting Airgun…?
Well, as not to veer off from airguns, in short, I decided to let him use my Winchester 94 XTR laminate 30-30. But, I think I’m going to take him out ready for squirrels with an airgun and I’ll carry the 94. I just want him to get out into the woods. I’m hoping Elaine will hurry up and shoot her Umarex Nitro she won and then maybe he can try that for squirrels or rabbits. I might still pick up a big bore eventually.

Sounds good, I’m sure he will enjoy spending time hunting with Grandpa 👍.

A big bore sounds interesting, don’t think that I’ll ever need one but who knows.

The numbers are a little better than advertised for power and speed now for the 25.39s but the barrel doesn’t like them, never has.

She is a BSD kind of rifle and that’s about it. Just need to get them moving faster.

All the work I did I was able to achieve a 50 ft./s increase from when I first put over the crono back in October 👍.

I’ve had the Airacuda put away for a little while, broken.

In my quest to get the BSD‘s to move a little faster I had an issue come up and the popit valve was damaged.

It occurred when I was trying to adjust the spring tension for the popit valve. I initially made a measurement of 11.53mm

Scouring the web and YT I came up with a different depth of 16mm +/- .5 which would put more tension on the spring. I also contacted JTS and they informed me that that figure was correct.

I set the depth to 15mm assembled the rifle and did a Chrono test it made eight shots at 550fps and then degassed.

I took the rifle apart and inspected the valve. I could not really tell that anything was wrong so I made several attempts, including trying to reseat the valve with a drill, but everything failed.

I subsequently ordered replacement parts and after receiving some of the parts that I paid for (two items are still missing) I found that the new valve stem is 1.92mm smaller, too much tension is what caused the damage in the rifle, mine is an older model (perhaps pre-max) with different components and specs.

So after all this the lesson that I have learned is to trust my instincts a little bit better and when I have good Chrono data, trust that too because both told me everything was basically fine.

Since I received the most critical parts, I was able to put it back together and it’s shooting pretty well, I hope JTS sends me the balance of my parts. I have emailed them, but have not received a reply.
