The H&N Baracuda Match in my 177 HP Ghost are the most precise so far...the JSBs all have more fliers....I had some old Beeman Silver Jets left over from back in the days when I was trying to find an accurate pellet for my R9 (which ended up being the H&N BM)....they did not group well at all but they were also 30 years old...and oxidized...so I only shot a couple and threw the rest in the scrap lead pile...

Pointed pellets are not accurate out of any of my guns to date. Whats the point??

What's the size of your pellet trap?
Why I ask is because I used 12 bricks of Duct Seal that stops all pellets from reaching the back plate much less the 5/8 plywood.
BTW the only pointed pellets I ever had close to satisfactory results were .177 PolyMag Predators in 8 gr.
I fill cardboard box(es) with Vigoro rubber "mulch". They are light and portable and low cost and reusable... and so far they easy stop 177 at ~33 ft-lbf and 22 at 55+ ft-lbf pellets within ~ 1 to 1.5" depth..haven't found pellets deeper than 1.5" and this is at 30 yards...easy to separate the spent pellets from the "mulch" and reuse the mulch....after a while I just tape a new cardboard front to the box. Key is have a good 2" edge margin...shooting too close to the edge can result in some coming out the side...

I for sure am avoiding the pointed pellets for now. Crosmans were decent and that was about it! The plywood (opening) is about 28 wide x 18 high. It is 1/8 thick metal and I tested it vs .22lr and it stops it with no problem. The plywood I get (scraps) can be anywhere from 1/4 to 3/4 thick. I shoot it ALOT until it's too destroyed. 3 or 4 sheets lasts a year I find. It's not to heavy to lug around. My thought was to keep the lead out of the ground/garden and I toss em with my wheel weights for scrap. Problem is it makes a big mess with all the wood bits in there too
try the Vigoro mulch...only messy when you separate the spent lead, but even that is only as messy as you want it to be via how you do it...I dump it into a bigger box, and shake the lead to the bottom and then transfer the "mulch" out to a new box....
Yeah mine is quiet, about the same sound as hitting a starling.Yeah pretty much whatever you do it seems to get a bit messy! I like how big it is (for a backstop) and noise suppression isn't to big a deal where I liveI can fit 6 or so of those little scoring sheets on it, Or 2 of those big sight n targets.

Well I found an Accurate pointed pellet by accident....the H&N Hornet! 
Some were included in an assorted mix pack I bought a month or 2 back. Absolutely beautiful pellets, super sharp (brass?) tip, insane expansion, fits in all my magazines, annnnd superb accuracy! I mean close to my 16/18gr JSB competition pellets! I still wouldn't use then for an everyday pellet as they cost me $20cdn for 200 on sale, vs $30/500. As per @hameditor surmised the lead point is probably hard to get perfect hence the usual lack of accuracy in traditional lead pointed pellets. Well these have a nice brass, ultra sharp point shoved into the lead. The only thing I have shot that damaged the tip was steel targets! Highly recommend trying these. This could also explain why the polymags shoot so well out of alot of folks guns. At 40Y with S510 I can consistently get almost half inch 5 shot groups with em

I feel I'm the fly in the ointment here! Once upon a time, pellets were all you could get, unless you were shooting big bores. Nowadays, pellets and slugs are available for just about any caliber, and in a variety of styles and weights for both. The available combinations are almost endless, allowing hunters and target shooters to choose the best and most accurate. However...
My take is this: From .177 to .357, the best accuracy has always been with slugs. Yes in most cases you have to have a faster twist to accurately shoot slugs. I also agree you can't get pellets to hold a group using the faster twists. This said, if you hunt game or are into pesting (or both like I am), no pellet I have ever used will shoot accurately past about 80 yards (less than one inch groups) regardless of shape or style. Fact is, I stopped using pellets about 2016 or so, and I'm never going back!

OK . . . I've got to jump in on this one as well. Years ago, these red tiped pointed pellets were marketed as "premium " hunting pellets with "much better penetration" . I bought the bullet . . . er, pellet. Orv
