I pre-ordered a nighthawk back in August. Because it was part of a fairly large order, they gave me the option of a free gift, so I chose the Gunnr Helmdall 6-24 scope, which seemed like a great scope - a large part of why I ordered from them in the first place.
I've noticed that scope has been out of stock for weeks and I thought, "boy, i sure hope they saved me one"

Today I get this email:

Hello,

Thank you for your order!

We regret to inform you that the free gift you selected, Gunnr Heimdall HD 6-24x50 FFP (SKU: FFP-0624-50), was the last unit in our warehouse. Unfortunately, it was found to be damaged and cannot be shipped in its current condition. We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience.

As an alternative, you may choose any in-stock optic from our store as a replacement free gift:

Please let us know which item you would prefer, and we'll be happy to assist with the arrangement.

Thank you for your understanding!

I'm curious if anyone else got this same excuse? Because it smells like bullshit to me. I've received other defective products from them, and from reading about other customers' experiences here, it would surprise me if they bothered to inspect anything at all that went out.

What I suspected is that they could make more money selling off the stock instead of fulfilling their free gift obligations. I pushed back and they wrote me back the following:

------------

Hello,

We sincerely apologize for the confusion and frustration caused by the previous update. We understand that you do not want a substitution, and we respect your preference.

We would like to clarify that the scope was offered as a free gift. Unfortunately, we cannot reserve it if another customer purchases the remaining stock first.

As a gesture of goodwill, we would like to offer you 200 points as compensation. You may also choose another scope currently available in our store as your replacement free gift.

You can browse our available scopes here: Optics

Please let us know which scope you would prefer. We apologize again for the inconvenience and appreciate your understanding.

So I consider this an admission that they did indeed sell their remaining stock with no regard to people like me. The scopes they have remaining to offer me are all trash, nothing remotely approaching what I asked for, so this very scummy to me.

Thanks for reading and curious what others here take from this.

Is it possible to request a full refund?

Similarly, I am very dissatisfied with Tuxing Official Store and am demanding a refund.

This is what I think will command their attention, a loss of revenue. Also, I will not be dissuaded by some trinket for my appeasement.

I am not sure what the rub is. If they can make money and sell a product it makes sense they do that first. Like I would rather get paid for work than voluntarily do it for free. I don’t hold that against a company. Now if you paid for it that would be a problem. I also know they use a drop ship warehouse and they probably drove over it with forklift and the shipper would not accept the package. It happens trust me. Not that they inspected it as much as they could not ship it.

I agree it sucks that you are not getting your preferred optic, but they are offering anything they have in stock as a replacement. I do think the Pinty Vexa HD 7-35x56 FFP or the 6-24 is a good option, but agree they do not have the reputation the Gunnr has.

I have had a lot of dealings with Pinty and don’t feel they have mistreated or misled me. Also, I have not had anyone who did not get a satisfactory solution. Keep us posted on what you chose and what they do. Good to keep track of the OEMs and the solutions.

Have you asked on the lead time to get the one you wanted?

@Playingdead , myself and I’m sure many others factor those “free items” into a purchase. Such as free shipping, buy one get one or a free scope.

I wouldn’t mind knowing what the terms and conditions of that free scope that the op was referring to.

Still, who would want to pay more but receive less than what was agreed to?

@scrotard did the offer of that particular scope influence your decision to make that purchase in some way?

While I have mostly had no issues, I know of a few others who have been dissatisfied with their interactions with Pinty. The marketing manager is active on here, so hopefully you can get some satisfactory resolution, and sorry to hear about your experience.

I try not to use free stuff to determine a good deal. Either the price is good and that would be an add on. Find free stuff to be just that.

I understand if OP was basing his decision on the perception that the free optic was a reduction in price. I also think that Pinty was offering a in kind solution for the value.

@FL22 Do you think Pinty offering any optic in stock as a replacement was not acceptable? What should they offer? Should OP return his product and go another direction?

I am not defending Pinty. I am saying taking emotion out of it can help look at what business must do or should do.

Thanks for reading and curious what
I wasn’t going to comment on this. But, here we are. Pinty tries hard, especially considering their product line is a value line and not a premium product line. I’m solely referring to their price point, not their value or quality etc… Pinty does itself no favors by sending out disingenuous or fictitious excuses. They did the same thing with the first shipment of Busters. They oversold the .22 and instead of just stating that and apologizing, they sent out the same email telling customers that unfortunately they had purchased the last .22 Buster and that prior to shipping they had determined it was defective and would be unable to fulfill the order. Unfortunately they sent that same email to several members of another forum. The discussion on that forum was not a happy one as users compared their emails. In my case, I opted to accept a .177, but that’s a whole other story LOL. But, the rep on here stepped up and did more than I expected.
It could be worse, I could’ve spent $5k with an airgun company, got screwed, then given an invoice stating that I would receive the first production Sub-MOA .25 Ghost slug barrel to make me feel better and then not honor it. Oh, I did. The airgun world is the Wild West of retail.
