Tuning PCP Tuning Recipes - Can We Share Them And Help Each Other?

This post is based on an interesting suggestion by @GAJoe about trying to find tuning “recipes” for his Barra 250z. He asked if it would be possible to somehow list regulator pressures, hammer-spring settings etc. as a starting point for newcomers looking to set up or tune their PCP air rifles.

Now, I know that every gun is different and a recipe that’s ideal for one sample of a particular type of air rifle may not be suitable for another. However, it’s likely that one person’s successful recipe may be a good STARTING POINT for another shooter to learn from. If we had multiple recipes for the same gun that would be even better!

In my opinion, GAJoe’s idea is an excellent one. So I’m investigating how we could implement this in the HAM Community.

Here’s where we are with the concept…

We could build a database of tune recipes in the HAM Community and make this freely available to all. That would definitely answer Joe’s request.

However, there’s a couple of prerequisites that would be needed to make the project a success.

One would be defining the elements of such a recipe. That might become quite complex, as tuning involves multiple elements. But it’s doable.

The second would be the willingness of HAM Community members to share their successful tune recipes. This would need to be a team effort, or it will not work at all.

So here’s my question to all HAM Community members:

Would you be willing to share your PCP air rifle tune recipes and results?

Please comment below. If we have enough support, then I will commit the time, effort and cost required to build a system in the HAM Community to gather and display the results.

Honestly, it's what my posts on my guns are all about. At some point I say everything I do and where I end up. The way you have the website set up right now is pretty good. We go to brand under discussions and from there we can filter what gun in that brand we are interested in. I guess the one thing that could be helpful is if the op's original post for the thread had a sticky area for current gun setup status so that people could quick check a project gun's development and final state.

Going stream of consciousness here, envisioning a standardized format with this information:

Rifle - Make, Model, Version (if applicable)
Barrel - Make, Length, Twist Rate, Rifling Type (polygonal, traditional land/groove etc.), Choked (yes/no)
Projectile - Make, Model, Version (if applicable), Speed
Regulator - Set Pressure (if regulated)
Moderator - Make, Model, Verison (if applicable)
Hammer - Version (if different weights available)
Hammer Spring - Version (if different strengths available)
% of Plateau - Speed at this tune, divided by the maximum speed attainable at current regulator set pressure
MIsc - Transfer port/speed/power wheel settings etc.
Modifications - Drilled out or aftermarket transfer port, modified valve etc.

I'm sure there's more that can be added. Electronic rifles & hammerless designs may need a very different list.

Once I start playing with tunes, I'm game. It is not an area I have delved into, yet.

I'm game. Have alot of fx rifles that I think have good tunes I've came up with. Can be frustrating and fun to find an accurate tune that shoots like a laser. Would like to see if everyone has a better tune with certain ammo. Would give people a good starting point to go off of.

I'm sorry to be the person that goes 'against the grain' with this, but I'm being honest.

I would not be interested in sharing rifle tuning info. in a regimented, form type format. I like being able to write what I want to share in my own words, and in the way I want to convey the information.

For me, a good part of the fun and excitement of getting a new rifle is doing research for that particular rifle. After reading lot's of threads and watching a video or two, I have a pretty good 'feel' for what's going on with that rifle.

When I got my 250z I read almost every thread on this board to learn little detailed stuff about the rifle. It was a great help for me learning the rifle and was also entertaining at the same time.

I totally get that, but sometimes it's a real pain to go back into my own threads to find information, that I wrote, and know is there somewhere. That's why an editable sticky on post #1 is appealing to me. The truth is that I still would probably end up reading through the thread to determine how I ended up at the numbers on the sticky, but no one e!se need read through all that when they're busy doing their own thing and just doing research.

What I would like to see, is a chart that shows required speed for each weight and caliber pellet and slugs.
