But wait, there’s more from Nate! The NateChrony SteadyShot is a combined barrel-mounted chronograph and shooting training tool.
It’s a development of the original NateChrony that we featured in Hard Air Magazine in 2024 and works with airguns having a Muzzle Energy of up to 150 Ft/Lbs.
In fact, Nate showed an early prototype of the SteadyShot at the 2024 Pyramyd Cup. I tried it then and was extremely excited by the potential of the tool. Now it’s here…
The SteadyShot is the latest NateChrony with added movement sensors (accelerometers). This gives SteadyShot the capability to monitor all the movement of your muzzle: up/down, left/right and back/forwards. (That’s in addition to measuring the velocity of the pellet or slug).
Then Nate combines this with some VERY clever software that runs on a mobile phone or tablet. The result to give you insights to exactly what you’re doing as you shoot – and when you’re doing it!
The software allows you to capture muzzle acceleration in three dimensions, each displayed on a separate graph. It can capture from 0.75 to 20 seconds of data for perfect granularity.
It also provides a three-dimensional graph to show motion of the muzzle in space.
To me, that 3D visualization of the muzzle movement is perhaps the most powerful aspect of the software. This is because it gives a “perspective” view of how your airgun’s muzzle is moving before, during and after you take the shot, as shown by the screen grab below.
Are you steady? are you smooth? are you consistent? You can now know!
The NateChrony SteadyShot includes the Chronograph; a quality braided USB-C to USB-A/C cable, with 90-degree connector; the software and two 1/2 UNF threaded barrel adapters. Plus, there’s a carrying pouch, plastic pellet for the drop test and phillips driver for the adapter grub screw.
You supply a device with Wi-Fi and a web browser. That could be your mobile phone, tablet, laptop, or PC.
Nate stresses that – if using a mobile phone/tablet – it should be less than five years old and running the latest software versions. He’s provided a web page for you to test your device at natechronytest.com.
Also, Nate has put together a comprehensive series of 8 – yes eight! – short videos explaining how the SteadyShot works. You can see them on YouTube here. They’re very informative.
The price is $160.00 at Pyramyd. But if you have an existing NateChrony, you may be able to upgrade and obtain all that new functionality at no additional charge. That’s great customer support from Nate! Check out this page on Nate’s own website.
In my own personal experience, the least consistent part of my shooting is always the nut holding the trigger. Me!
Nate’s new SteadyShot provides a way to help everyone train and improve shooting their airgun. I’d guess it will be particularly helpful for kneeling and standing positions. Hunters and Field Target shooters take note…
