New York State Airgun Law Proposal Update

New York State Airgun Law Proposal Update

Yes, another post about this New York State airgun law proposal!

But I make no apologies because it’s a very strong bet that there’s many other states watching and you may find similar proposals in your area very soon. So, this is NOT just a New York problem, this could be just the start. We all need to remember that…

Please watch this outstanding video from Colion Noir. He’s a noted “firearms guy”, attorney and gun rights activist. He sees the problem and is out there helping us. Thank You Colion!

As a reminder, the New York State government is trying to ban air guns, and we need your help to stop this overreach that removes yet another of our legal rights.

Two separate Bills, S9215 and A10701, propose to designate all air guns – from your Crosman 760 and Daisy Red Ryder to expensive PCP models designed for hunting – into the “Imitation Weapons” category.

This will require a barrel plug that renders them nonfunctional and changing the coloring to bright colors that “do not resemble a firearm”.

Note that New York State doesn’t seem to want to recognize the inconvenient fact that there’s plenty of brightly-colored firearms being sold. As is well known, brightly-colored firearms are all the rage today. (Oops, sorry, I’m using logic again – must stop that!).

Effectively, this would ban the future sales of airguns within the State of New York.

So what would be the result of this New York State airgun law proposal?

The result would be no more plinking in the backyard. No more competitive air rifle shooting.

No more 4H, Scouting and gun club youth training. No more small game hunting with air rifles.

The squirrel population will explode!

Particularly, it will remove the “on ramp” for youth shooters who then develop a lifelong interest in shooting – as many of us did. And we can guess that this is what’s behind the proposal. They really don’t want more people like us…

What can we do about this New York State Airgun law proposal?

3. New York State provides residents with the ability to read proposed legislation and give their opinion on it. Make use of it!

This online system allows you to register your support or opposition to a bill and to receive status alerts on its progress through the legislative process. It also provides a link for New York residents to find their state Senator, should you wish to contact them on any issue.

Remember that there are TWO New York State airgun law proposals and you need to register your opinion on BOTH of them.

You can read the proposed State Senate Bill S9215 here: https://www.nysenate.gov/legislation/bills/2025/S9215
