Hard Air Magazine readers first saw information about the new JSB Exact Premium .30 caliber pellets in our report from the 2025 Pyramyd Cup.
Now we can take a closer look at this new product. We’ll also understand what that “Premium” designation means and whether it’s important.
First, the obvious. These new pellets are supplied in a screw-top tin with completely new packaging design. There’s a new JSB logo, as you can see, with the striking overall black color to both the upper and lower parts of the tin.
The pellets themselves are a traditional Diabolo design with domed head. They look nicely-finished, as we can see in these close-up photographs.
Supplied in 70-count tins, these new 44.75 Grain pellets are carefully protected from shipping damage by foam above, below and around the pellets. Very good!
So what’s with this “Premium” designation?
JSB makes it clear on the tin that “Premium” means carefully-selected weight. They say that every pellet has to be within plus or minus 0.15% of the nominal 44.75 Grain weight. That is, with an Extreme Spread of 0.30%.
The graph below puts this claim into context. It shows the weight variability scores from no less than 51 HAM pellet test reviews.
HAM specialist Pellet Tester Doug Wall has measured every pellet tested – all 2,500 of them – using an amazingly-precise (and expensive) laboratory-grade Sartorius milligram balance that’s able to detect the weight of a small snowflake. It’s that precise and so is he!
HAM pellet reviews use closely-guarded algorithms for their scoring. However we do use an Extreme Spread system to allocate percentage scores for weight variability.
What I can reveal is that JSB’s claimed plus or minus 0.15% of the nominal weight would fall into HAM’s 100% score for weight variability.
As we can see from the chart above, only four out of the 51 pellets and slugs tested to date by HAM have received a 100% score for weight variability. That’s just 7.8% of the total.
So – yes – when JSB claims premium consistency for these new pellets, HAM agrees with them!
But can JSB deliver on this promise of quality?
Yes, we think so. You see – out of the four 100%-scoring results for weight variability in HAM testing – one of them is from JSB.
The HAM Gold Award-winning JSB Exact Premium Diabolo 8.44 Grain .177 caliber pellets scored 100% for weight variability. And you’ll notice that they include the term “Premium” in the product name. JSB knows how to do this!
So HAM believes that these new JSB Exact Premium .30 caliber pellets really will deliver the consistency they claim. We plan to test this out in the near future…
